Make a hobby of collecting snow globes

By Scott Jenson

If you are looking to pick up a new hobby or start one with a child, you may want to consider snow globe collecting. With such a small investment to start, collecting these treasures is a wonderful addition for the kid in all of us. Children too love to collect souvenirs so this can be a collection for you, for your child or an interest the both of you can pick up together.

A snow globe is a souvenir that consists of a glass sphere holding a little world of its own. The globe is filled with water, and when it is still, a fine layer of white particles cover the landscape of the scene. When the glass is shaken, these little white particles are dispersed swirling into the water of the globe and resemble a little snow storm. Many snow globes also come with a music box that jingles a little tune as the flakes settle back over the landscape.

Snow globes have alternative names such as snow dome, water dome, snow shakers and water balls and they appear to date from France in the early 1800s. They appeared in relation to glass paperweights which were popular only a few years prior. Today's snow globes are made with a mixture of water and glycerin, in which glycerin makes the 'snow' fall slower.

Snow globes feature a wide variety of scenes ranging from well-known holiday scenes, animals, popular icons, Disney characters and even military figures. There is no shortage of scenes to be collected with new figures often being added. Many stores especially around the holidays sell snow globes and they can easily be acquired even on sale.

When deciding to collect snow globes, you need ample space and sturdy shelving. Over time your area may become weighed down, so do not cut expenses by putting your wonderful displays on unstable shelving as they are difficult to repair. It is also equally important to store the globes in an area that does not see extreme heat or cold, as the glass will bust with extreme temperatures. In addition you should also be aware that over time the liquid inside of your snow globes may evaporate, time may fade colors, which may cause the snow to clump.

So, if you are looking for a new hobby, take all of this into consideration, as they really are a delight to have in your home during the winter season and beyond. Due to the fact that snow globes have been around so long, nearly everyone has fond childhood memories that make a collection a great conversation piece.

Los Cristianos Hotels On Tenerife, The Canary Islands

By Faith Jacobs

Spain is a beautiful country and the village of Los Cristianos is a must visit when in Spain. The Los Cristianos hotels all have been built to provide the traveler with amenities and accommodations that are breathtaking. The location of the village allows one to have a sea view from almost any area of the hotels. The Los Cristianos hotels have all been built in close proximity to the beautiful sandy beach. Many of the hotels are so close that one can step from their room and onto the beach within a short walk. Other hotels are built between the beach and town centre so that an individual can enjoy shopping and eating on their way to the beach.

Tenerife is the island on which the southern region town of Los Cristianos sits. The Canary Islands, of which there are seven in Spain's holdings, sit off Africa's west coastal area, and almost 1 million year-round residents occupy the nearly 2100 square kilometer island. In recent years, almost 9 million vacationers have visited the island on an annual basis.

Whale watching is one of the past times of many visitors to Los Cristianos. In some cases one can see whales from their veranda in the early morning or as the sun sets. This tranquil environment creates a level of relaxation that cannot be found in other locations.

The Victoria Court apartment complex is a good choice if you want to spend some time in town. It is close to the restaurants, bars and stores. Each apartment has a terrace and there is a pool where you can go to relax. The apartments are also near the beach and there are laundry facilities available.

There is a plethora of hotel types in the Los Cristianos area. A number of clean, neat (but very basic) offerings exist. At the upper end, several four and five star examples are available. The climate attracts many visitors, including from the UK, which sends nearly 2 million holiday goers to the island on an annual basis.

Many Los Cristianos hotels offer a variety of accommodation experiences, and will range in price from less than 100 USD per night for a basic room all the way past 400 USD per night for a truly fine resort living hotel. When combined with that sunny, warm climate and beautiful ocean, it's easy to see why the island attracts so many visitors.

Palma is one of the largest airports in Spain and, during the summer holidays, one of the busiest in all of Europe with Majorca flights all over the world. Some people prefer to stay in Palma to soak in all the history and sites it has to offer. You can enjoy fabulous Gothic cathedrals, stunning beaches, and excellent nightlife. Before all the site seeing takes place you of course have to book the flight. You can usually find great deals on Majorca flights.

Palma de Mallorca Airport is the airport you will fly into when visiting Palma, Majorca. It is the third largest airport in Spain. During the summer months it is one of the busiest airports in Europe. This airport can dispatch 12,000 passengers per hour.

The Cocos Islands

By Martin Pittaway

Stick a pin in a globe through the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, and it emerges almost exactly through the Cocos in Costa Rica.

Discovered in 1609, these islands were settled and owned by a single family from 1827 until the Australian Government forcibly acquired them in 1978 for a payment of over $6 million.

Lying 2,770 km (1,732 ml) northwest of Perth, the 27 coral islands are formed into two large, heavily vegetated atolls. Not only are they the only atolls that Darwin ever visited, but the coral ecosystem remains intact and you can still see in their pristine condition exactly why they played such an important part in his theory of evolution.

North Keeling, set apart from the other islands, isn't even inhabited; but you can see extreme rarities like the Cocos buff-banded rail, robber land crabs, and both green and hawksbill turtles among other wonders, under its protection as Pulu Keeling National Park, covering both North Keeling and its surrounding waters.

The 600 or so Cocos (Keeling) islanders live on Home and West Islands, both given over to copra and coconut plantations that only add to their tropical glamour. There is no tourist industry at all. Instead, there are facilities for visitors, sponsored by islanders who take an almost personal interest in everyone who comes.

If you happen to be there, you're genuinely welcome to participate in the school fete, sports day, or concert night; and you'd be unwise not to join in quiz night at the Cocos Club, or not to watch the annual Ardmona Cup Aussie Rules football match. The tradition of hospitality is both Australian and Malay, representing the origins of the tight-knit community.

The islanders, as much as the islands themselves, have retained a form of unpolluted innocence, and share a mutual respect that visitors immediately respond to. These islands are a dreamscape worthy of Gauguin.

Ski Vacations for Beginners

By Lawrence Gilbert

Picking a Resort

For the novice skier, it is advised to select a ski vacation in a destination that is suitable to all degrees of skill: That way all members of your group, no matter their level, can get the most out of the vacation. Most destinations do offer different ski runs, ranging from wide, smooth beginner's slopes, to expert courses, which tend to be complex and a little dangerous.

Novice skiers should invest in ski lessons from professionals at the holiday resort. Ideally, the new skier should take classes prior to the vacation to learn the basics. A beginner should lease their ski equipment because buying it before knowing what one needs from the equipment may be a costly error.

What to Take with you

Novice skiers often underestimate how important correct ski clothing is: An average jacket and gloves are not going to be appropriate. Gloves need to be waterproofed with a good grip, jackets lightweight and wind-resistant and trousers ("salopettes") designed for the demands of skiers.

In addition, skiers should purchase thick socks, a warm hat and scarf, sunglasses (the glare off the snow can be intense) and sunscreen (it is easy to get burned). For the best comfort and safety, a new skier should wear thin layers that allow for movement, rather than one extremely thick layer. Most ski resorts shops carry ski-clothing rentals.

Essential Extras

A lift pass is required to allow access to the slopes. They can be purchased as part of a vacation package or purchased in resort each day (though you may experience long lines at popular resorts). Prices are based on where you are, but many deals can be located by looking online, asking the hotel concierge, purchasing in advance or buying for a group.

Always know what time the last lift leaves the slopes each day and organize a meeting point and time with your friends. It is also an excellent idea to carry a mobile phone with you for any issues.

This is a city that is famous for the hospitality they show to visitors. When stopping here as a part of your river boat cruise, you'll enjoy mooching along the canals and seeing the monuments and bridges.

When visiting Amsterdam you will not want to miss seeing the Anne Frank Museum. The area where this young girl hid while writing her diaries will permit you to experience what she must have felt all those months.

Back to the river and onward you'll stop in Prague, the capitol of the Czech Republic. This is an an incredibly well liked visitor destination for those looking for history and culture as well as art. The Vitava is the setting for the stone bridge that comes from ancient times.

Cruise Ships Offer Activities for All-Ages!

By James Steinberg

Are you looking forward to taking your very first cruise with your family? Well you can be rest assured that there will be plenty of activities available for you and the other members of your party. In fact, the staff on your cruise ship will have such a wide variety of activities scheduled that you will have just as much fun as you would if you were sightseeing on land. The onboard activities range from cooking classes to rock-climbing, trivia contests, country line dancing and wine tasting.

The only problem you may have is actually choosing which cruise ship and activities to do. There are on-board activities, ship-to-shore excursions, age-related activities, or special interest activities. Everyone in your family will find some form of activity to keep them occupied. In fact, you may have so much fun that you lose track of time and before you know it, your cruise will be over.

For most people, a vacation doesn't truly begin until they have reached their intended destination. On a cruise however, new meaning is brought to the clich "getting there is half the fun." There are dozens of cruise activities that will entertain, educate, and thrill passengers of all age groups. In fact, as a passenger you may have so much fun that you may never leave the ship during your cruise.

Some of the more common activities that are found on cruise ships are water activities. In general, there is at least one community swimming pool that is divided into three separate areas. Adults can relax and enjoy one area, while teenagers splash and sunbathe around a second area. If you have small children, there is usually an area set up that includes lifeguards and supervision.

Are you interested in activities that will strengthen your mind? Many cruises offer classes, lectures, and learning opportunities to take advantage of. Typically, these educational opportunities come with a delicious buffet attached. You can take advantage of political discussions and even speak with film stars. If that doesn't sound interesting enough, there are also special programs available that teach calligraphy, art history, acting and music and language classes.

Pearl of the Indian Ocean - Sri Lanka Profile

By George Brash

The Pearl of the Indian Ocean lies only 31 km (19 ml) off India's south coast. Its modern name is taken from the Sanskrit ancient Indian epics Mahabharata and the Ramayana, and means resplendent land.

Sri Lanka's chief characteristic is intensity ...of colour, of beauty, of religious belief, of sectarian commitment, and of affection it inspires in everyone who goes there. The first to stay became the stuff of legend: the 2,500 year-old Mahawamsa chronicle describes the arrival of the 'Sinhala' (lion race), and the island's history since has been a series of shifting kingdoms, each leaving a treasury of ruins and literature, and a tangle of relationships that are still being decoded in its modern political life.

When you go to Sri Lanka's cultural triangle of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Dambullal Sigiriya, you see the architectural glories of the past, but they are living history. They are active religious sites, not floodlit movie sets.

The island has the perfect set-up. At any time of year you can lounge on immaculate beaches, and cool off in the hills when you get hot. Colombo, the capital, is a chaotic modem city, and an appropriate synthesis both of Sri Lanka's indigenous cultures and its Portuguese, Dutch and British influences.

Tropical beaches stretch north to the bustle of Negambo, a characteristic fishing community; and south in a chain of pink and white arcs, past turtle hatcheries (Indurwa), masked carvers (Ambalangoda), and the coral reefs of Hikkaduwa.

Go to Yala West National Park, a teeming rainforest of elephants, leopards, buffaloes, monkeys, crocodiles, deer, sloth bears and a galaxy of birds, on your way to the lush, lakeside hill resort of Kandy.

It's Sri Lanka's exotic spiritual centre, and its spectacular parades of frenetic dancers, firewalkers and pounding drummers are, in fact, often a signal to prayer.

Future Book Betting Traps And How To Avoid Them

By Ross Everett

Sports betting futures wagers can be an entertaining and profitable investment, but there are a number of pitfalls. These are some things to avoid:

You gotta shop around: More specifically, you have to 'shop points' just as you would with a straight bet. This is crucial in all forms of sports betting but particularly key with futures wagers. There are often greater variances in the prices from book to book on future plays than any other type of wagering proposition. The reason for this is simple--most books are less concern with what the 'other guys' are doing as they are with keeping their own position 'in balance'. All in all, the sports betting marketplace just doesn't react as quickly to changing futures prices as it does to individual game lines.

In a competitive field, don't obsess with picking the winner: This may sound like a strange concept, but once you understand the theory behind it it makes perfect sense. In a large field--the NCAA basketball tournament is a perfect example--the top few favorites are invariably priced at odds that are less than the 'true odds' of them winning. On the other hand, there are always teams that fly 'under the radar' available at higher prices that present a betting overlay.

To put this in more theoretical terms, the "true odds" of Duke winning the NCAA Championship are almost certainly higher than the price we're getting. Obviously, determining the "true odds", or actual probability of a future event is an inexact science but think of it this way: if the NCAA tournament was played 100 times would Duke wind up winning 50 of those? Given the number of other good teams and the propensity for upsets along the way, its doubtful. For the sake of argument, lets say that Duke has a 33% chance to win the tournament. That means that I wouldn't consider a bet on Duke to be a good value unless I was getting a price that a) accurately reflected the true probability of their winning and b) gave me some compensation for assuming the "risk of the unknown" inherent in taking the position so far in advance. At +500 I might be interested, but at +200 the value just isn't there.

Note that the more competitive the market, the more difficult it is to find good value on a favorite. In a smaller field, or in a field with one dominant competitor it can be easier. For example, say the UFC were to have a tournament involving heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and three male figure skaters. Even if Lesnar was slightly injured, or not at the top of his game he'd essentially have a 100% chance of beating the smaller, effeminate men who are untrained to fight. If a book installed Lesnar as a -1000 favorite in this spot, it could still be considered a good value. It's never easy to risk a lot to win a little, but from strictly a mathematical standpoint it makes sense.

Don't get seduced by big underdogs: Sports betting is not a place to make the "big killing". It may happen occasionally, but more often it doesn't. While a sports book might offer a huge price on a cellar dwelling team to win the World Series, the big payback does not mean its a good value. On a practical level, there's probably nothing wrong with throwing a few bucks on a wager like this with a huge payback if the impossible occurs. My only problem with this is that making too many bets like this just perpetuates bad sports betting habits. If you're strictly a recreational player, no big deal. If you aspire to bet professionally, or at least want to pursue it with some degree of seriousness I've always maintained that you need to develop discipline that's not situational. In other words, if you want to be a serious sports bettor you need to approach it with a consistent level of seriousness at all times. If you want to chase a huge, life altering jackpot go to Las Vegas and play the Megabucks slots or buy a Powerball ticket.

Wagering value is just as important at the bottom of the barrel as it is at the top. Just because you're getting a huge potential payback on a big dog doesn't make it a good value. Make sure that the payback you're getting presents an overlay situation--even on a huge underdog.

Don't bet one sided props: Sometimes sports books will offer silly bets just to get publicity or in some cases just to be funny. While there may be life on other planets, the 'true odds' of a Martian being named to President Obama's cabinet wouldn't justify a +5000 line that it would occur.

Don't Lose Your Luggage When On Holiday And Vacation Flights

By Dorothy Yamich

Whether you have taken air flights for business, or vacations and holidays, you may have lost luggage or know someone that has. Here are a few travel tips that can help you reduce this risk.

It has been estimated that more than a million bags are lost by the airlines each year in the U.S. alone. How many bags get lost in the whole world is anybody's guess. Here are a few tips that might help you find your bags should they get lost.

You should attach two or three tags with your name, home address, and phone number to the handle and zipper-pulls of each bag that you are checking. There is less of a chance that all of your tags will get torn off in transit. Make sure that you have removed any old airline tracking tags that are still attached to your luggage as they could confuse the baggage handlers.

Also, be sure to place the same contact information, including a copy of your itinerary and destination address inside all of your bags. That way, if they do go astray and are found in time, it is possible that they could be forwarded to your hotel.

Pick luggage with a bright or odd color that will stand out among the numerous black and brown bags. Know the brand name of the luggage that you have and attach a colorful ribbon or scarf to the handle to make identification easier. Stick some decals or a contrasting colored tape to every side of the bags so they are easier to spot as the carousel goes around. Try to remember these details, or better still, take a photo of your luggage just before you go and bring it with you. This can help the lost luggage staff at the airport in locating your bags if they are lost in transit and show up at their office. It will also help when you have to make a claim.

It can help if you make a list of what you have in your luggage and carry that list in you carry-on bag. The chance of your checked luggage getting lost in transit increases when you have delayed, or connecting flights. Pack your valuables, including your laptop or Blackberry, travel documents, prescriptions, etc., in your carry-on luggage. It's best to pack only the things you can afford to lose in your checked baggage. Analysts believe the airline industry's problem of lost luggage is not going to go away anytime soon.

What should you do your luggage gets lost?

Go immediately to the baggage claim office and file your claim. Many airlines have a twenty-four hour window of time starting from when your flight arrives to file a claim and be eligible for compensation. Get a claim receipt and check the tracking of your luggage with the airline by phone, or on the airline's website. Make sure you keep all your flight documents until the lost luggage problem has been resolved.

How can you guarantee that the airlines won't lose your luggage?

There are some companies like FedEx, UPS or DHL, that can send your luggage in the U.S. directly to your hotel or street address for a very reasonable cost. If you're staying at a hotel, your luggage will be taken to your room by a bellboy. When you consider that in the United States alone, over a million bags are lost by the airlines each year, this service is well worth considering. If you are planning to travel by air throughout Europe, FirstLuggage.com, provides a similar service.

Planning a trip to this beautiful country? Here are the top picks of places to go and things to do when you travel to New Zealand.

New Zealand's travel hub is Auckland, so you will more than likely begin your trip here. While in Auckland book cruise of the Auckland Hauraki Gulf to see whales and dolphins frollicking in the wild in one of the world's most biologically diverse marine areas. Feeling brave? Strap on a harness and scale the Auckland Harbor Bridge on a climbing tour. This is a truly unique way to see the city and acts as a warm up to some of the other exciting activities that New Zealand has in store for you.

Think of the bridge climb as an appetizer for the adrenaline rush that is Queenstown. If you are an adventure lover, then this is your Mecca. Queenstown is in the business of serious fun. Here you can try bungee jumping, skiing, snowboarding, jet boating and many other activities not for the weak of stomach.

So much adrenaline makes a person thirsty, so it is handy that the Queenstown Wine Trail is right near by. This is a great way to let the nerves wind down and sample some of New Zealand's best wines.

After Queenstown point your compass towards Mt. Cook, New Zealand's tallest mountain. The journey to Mt. Cook is half the fun as it winds through the lush and beautiful landscape of Otago. Once you arrive at Mt. Cook one of the best ways to see the mountain is by helicopter tour.

The Maori people are the country's indigenous group and they have a proud heritage and rich culture that is very much alive and well in contemporary New Zealand. When you travel to New Zealand there are plenty of opportunities to get to know the Maori, their customs and traditions.

In Christchurch you can have a very special Maori experience at Ko Tane. Located inside the Willowbank Nature Reserve, Ko Tane is a living Maori village set up just the way life was before the Europeans arrived. At Ko Tane you will receive a traditional Maori greeting ceremony and learn all about the rich and fascinating Maori culture.

Heading to the north island the next stop on your itinerary should be Rotorua. This town is a hotbed of geothermic action, which means that it has some awesome hot springs. Wai Ora in Rotoroa is famous for its mineral mud baths, which are packed with healing powers. For centuries Maori people have been journeying to the baths for their healthful effects and now you can too.

With all its splendid natural beauty and thrilling sights and activities on offer, New Zealand is a great place to visit. Kids Toys - Set Free Their Imagination

By Dan Ellenwood

Deciding what toys to buy for the loved children in their lives is often not an easy decision for parents and grandparents to make. With such a variety of toys available on the market, it is easy to understand how it can become overwhelming.

There are toys that talk, dolls that wet their diapers, and computer games that claim to make kids smarter. Yet, even with all these high tech options, it is still the simple things that children return to again and again.

Why is that? Well, because the very fact that modern toys can do more that traditional ones means that they leave less to a childs imagination - and all children love to use their imagination. For example, a robot that has a lot of flashing lights, but only says stop, is not going to offer a whole lot of options for imaginations to run wild. At our house a cardboard toy box gets played with more often than the toys inside it.

Those toys which stand the test of time, you will find to be the ones that can be played with differently each time a child gets them out. Some examples are blocks, boring dolls, dress up clothes, and child safe face paint and make up. They are using the same toy each time, but each session can have a wildly different theme, or even no theme at all.

My kids, even though I have a boy and a girl, want to turn everything into a sword. Ninjas, pirates, whatever suits their fancy at the time. Before I know it, their electronic toys are gathering dust in the house, and they are outside hacking at each other with tree branches while one defends the tree house ship from the marauding pirate below.

That leads to a warning about using imaginative kids toys. They can potentially get violent. So as with everything, keep watch over the kids so things so no one loses an eye. The lack of boundaries on their imaginations can soon have them defending their turf from imaginary invaders, or toppling huge stacks of blocks, or trying to paint the cat like a skunk. Be warned, once these little imaginations get going, they really, really take off.

The younger they are, the more watchful you will have to be. Do not be fooled into thinking that they will just sit and hold whatever you give them. Just holding something is no fun at all! Within 10 minutes they will biting, pulling apart, standing, etc. whatever toy it is that you have given them. However simple, safe and indestructible you think something is, they will always try to find some way to injure themselves with it. That's just the way are!

I hope you've started thinking about all the kids toys you can get for your kids that will set their imaginations free.

6 Things to Know for Xmas Shopping

By Ellie Evergreen

This Christmas many parents will be looking to find great deals on toys and other presents for their kids. However, they also face the obstacle of a more limited income due to the recession. So how do you find great presents and not break the bank in the process? It takes knowing where to look and some advanced planning. Holiday shopping in 2009 is going to be the beginning of a major change in how most people shop and it will not look previous holiday shopping seasons. So being familiar with what the trends are and what are the options available for a shopper will make you all the more effective in your holiday shopping. Here are some great tips and suggestions to help you get started.

The big thing to look for this Holiday is people starting earlier. This is because the public is starting to see the futility of waiting till the last minute. This can be detrimental to the parent looking to get presents a little later. Some hot items will sell out quicker since people are buying earlier in the calendar year. So to make sure you are not caught flat footed make sure to have planned out your shopping for the beginning of November.

The internet will be the shopper's friend this year. The advancement of online shopping has started to take hold with the general public and many stores are even beginning to see their online sales outstrip their store sales. Shopping online allows a shopper to instantaneously shop and compare several brands and different store prices all at the click of a mouse. The internet is also reinventing age old practices such as coupons and sales and bringing them into the digital age. This is essentially removing the disadvantages that have made internet shopping less popular in previous years.

Another thing to realize this year is that credit does not have to be your best and first payment option. There are many new ways to pay for items online such as PayPal, debit, or direct deposit. In stores old payment plan practices like layaway are being revived giving customers the flexibility that credit would normally provide without all the bad financial consequences. The smart shopper will have saved up in anticipation of the shopping season and will have maximum flexibility using these services.

As you shop at major retailers look for major discounts on items that are hard for stores to sell in the current economic climate such as electronics. This allows you get great deals such as rebates or price cuts. If you take advantage of the great offers by retailers you will be able to make you money stretch further than you thought.

Also if you can't find that special toy or gift for your son or daughter in time, don't worry. There is always the after Christmas sale. The truth is even with all of the efforts of stores in anticipates of the traditional holiday rush there will be many shoppers who may still decide to sit it out this year. So look for great deals afterwards and pass it off as Santa being late.

There are also great services online that allow you to help your kids believe in Santa Claus. A great one is Santa Letters. You order the letters online and have the company customize information about each child. Since it will come in the mail, your kid will believe Santa actually wrote them.

The Basics Of The Kentucky Derby for Horse Racing Beginners

By Ross Everett

Although the Breeders' Cup is nipping at its heels, without a doubt the Kentucky Derby is the biggest horse race of the year in the United States. This is a race that attracts many fans from the general public that typically don't follow horse racing. A thorough understanding of horse racing, and which horses will win and why is a complex discipline that requires extensive specialized knowledge.

While understanding and predicting horse races is a very complex discipline, here are some basics that can help the amateur understand the Kentucky Derby. Back during the seventies, it was a race dominated by the favorite including three great Triple Crown winners"Secretariat, Seattle Slew and Affirmed"and a great horse that came close, Spectacular Bid. Since Spectacular Bid won the Derby in 1979, however, you can count the favorites who've won the race on one hand with fingers left over. If I was a serious horseplayer, I might not advise you to do this but since I'm just worried about predicting the outcome of this one race Im going to suggest that you forget about the favorite altogether. Not only will you not be flying in the face of recent history, but also it allows you to concentrate on the horses offering greater value.

There are a variety of theories behind the poor performance of favorites in the Kentucky Derby of late. One is that the hype surrounding the race has attracted so many mainstream fans who are prone to back the horse with the most media hype. Unfortunately, the most hyped horse is seldom the best horse.

Don't forget to pay attention to the starting position of the horses, known as 'post position' in racing slang. The historical data suggests that a Derby winner is most likely to come from positions 1 through 5, while the outer positions (11 through 20) have produced relatively few winners. This is something of an over simplification, but for the purpose of understanding a single race it won't hurt to just rule out all horses starting in a bad position.

Another factor worthy of consideration is the horses lineage and breeding. Start at the beginning"where the horse was born. Most, but not all, serious racehorses are born in Kentucky. If you see a horse in the race that wasnt, forget them. This is not any sort of home field advantage but a result of the concentration of the Thoroughbred horse industry in the state. Over 80% of Kentucky Derby winners have been born in Kentucky. Next, consider the horses gender, or more specifically dont consider any entry with a gender other than male. Only eleven horses other than intact males have ever won the race (eight geldings and three fillies). A gelding did win as recently as 2003, when Funny Cide took the roses but again for the newcomer this is an easy way to cut down the horses under consideration. This isnt a gender bias or anything, but for our purposes we can forget about non-male horses.

Don't forget to consider dosage index numbers. These are a complex mathematical formula that measures a horse's breeding lineage plus his past performance. You want to look for horses with a dosage index of 4.00 or less--over half of Derby winners have met this criteria since dosage numbers came into common usage in the mid 1980's.

If you want to learn about horse racing in more depth, there are countless books available to introduce you to the subject. For a recreational fan who just wants to have a better understanding of the Kentucky Derby, these rules can help.

Watchmen Costumes Will Be Popular Outfits for Halloween This Year

By David Lawson

This year, Watchmen costumes have become incredibly popular for Halloween and other science fiction gatherings. Silk Spectre, Night Owl, The Comedian, Dr. Manhattan - all of the popular characters from the best-selling graphic novel have stolen the Halloween spotlight, thanks to the release and continuing popularity of the smash hit movie by the same name.

Watchmen costumes offer a large variety of characters to choose from, so you're sure to find one that speaks to your inner superhero. They're perfect for individual costumes, and would work great if you're looking for a theme for a family or group of friends. Night Owl and Silk Spectre would make great Watchmen costumes for couples. Most of the characters are dressed in relatively simple costumes, making them easy to imitate and comfortable to wear.

Ladies are free to get in touch with their super heroine sides in Sally Jupiter or Silk Spectre Watchmen movie costumes. Both are fearless fighters dressed in yellow and black costumes, with Silk Spectre's outfit being a little more sleek and stealthy, while Sally Jupiter maintains a look closer to that of a pin up girl. Costumes for both heroines are easy to find in a range of sizes online, or check your local specialty costume shop.

Watchmen movie costumes offer a variety of choices for men wishing to get in touch with their inner superhero. Night Owl, a popular choice in Watchmen movie costumes this Halloween, is a superhero costume in the likeness of an owl, with a long cape instead of wings. Night Owl's uniform is quite detailed, and the costumes available this season copy the detail well. Night Owl costumes are relatively inexpensive, and include the owl headpiece.

The Comedian is also a hit when it comes to Watchmen movie costumes. When The Comedian stepped out to fight crime, he did so much like Night Owl - in a very detailed costume. Difficult to duplicate, this may be one Watchmen movie costume you're better off purchasing.

If you're hoping to make your own Watchmen costumes, Rorschach is one of the easier Watchmen characters to copy. His vigilante crime fighting uniform was quite simple - a mid-length trench coat with a beige colored scarf, gloves, and a fedora make up the clothing, and the mask could be copied with some thick white material and a fabric pen and very basic sewing skills.

Dr. Manhattan would also be a fairly simple Watchmen Halloween costume to duplicate on your own. While you can purchase a mask and gloves to help make your Watchmen movie costumes more authentic, this isn't necessary. The only clothing Dr. Manhattan requires is a pair of black pants, though you could opt for a full black suit if you wanted, similar to the one he wore to The Comedian's funeral. Blue body paint or liquid latex will help turn your skin blue just like Dr. Manhattan.

Who watches the Watchmen? From Dr. Manhattan and Silk Spectre to Rorschach, Watchmen costumes will ensure that everyone is watching you!

How to Have a Cat Halloween Costume

By Patrick G. Moore

Cat Halloween costumes are perhaps the most famous and attractive set that is perfect for this season. Almost all women and adults alike would wish to portray such because its character exudes charm, fierce and cuteness.

Actresses of our generation had been given the privilege of representing film classics acting out as Catwoman like Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry. And I must say, they both look stunning and fierce with the smooth black jumpsuits emphasizing their physical sexiness and beauty.

With such an impression, it's not a wonder why many girls would love to dress with cat Halloween costumes. Well, if you have any plans to portray as one let me give you some ideas on how to come up with the best cat outfit there is and how to act like one.

1. You must have the black suit. Almost all cat women seen on movies, and some random events dressed up in black polyester in a jumpsuit costume. The black color gives the illusion of sliminess and height. And it is of neutral shade thus fitting perfectly regardless of any skin tone and aesthetics. Furthermore it symbolizes strength and robustness of personality perfectly depicting what a cat should be. You can also improvise this suit with a tight-fitting jean with a black top of plunging or low neckline.

2. Accessories consideration. To effectively illustrate a Halloween cat costume, accessories are always necessary. The mask and cat ears are the common choices. Perhaps a mask halfway through your face can exudes that sense of mystery coupled with prop inspired cat ears. You can also choose to have the cat tail if you want more emphasis with your costume. Black gloves may also be a wonderful add-on together with black high-heeled shoes or black high-heeled boots can definitely complement a Catwoman costume.

3. Right cat stance. "Meow" your way to fashion, because what makes a cat a cat is the perfect attitude. Practice being one and feel being a cat. Learn to stretch and growl and say the meow word. It would also be useful to review the latest Catwoman film which Halle Berry portrayed perfectly. You should also take into consideration your personality as to which poses would fit you. Look in the mirror to practice in order to know whether those angles and stance looks wonderful.

Follow these simple tips and surely this Halloween you would be the best Catwoman admired. You still have months to plan and practice thus seek the perfect outfit, the proper accessories and the perfect state of mind. You can be sure to wow yourself and meow others with your cat Halloween costume.

Holiday Car Insurance for Rental Cars

By Claude DiSoto

One of the often overlooked component to any holiday insurance protection plan is the idea of holiday car insurance. This is an important element to any plan that many of them often lack.

If you're driving a car on your planned trip, this is definitely something you won't want to go without. The smallest accidents can end up doubling or tripling the cost of your trip, if not more, without a holiday car insurance plan.

People get distracted by their surroundings. They'll get lost sometimes. Maybe they're looking at a map that requires their attention.

Whatever it is, people are more likely to get into car accidents when they're in a place they're not as familiar with. This is especially true if they're in other countries.

By looking into holiday car insurance, you'll be doing yourself a huge favor in the event that anything does come up. The good news is that this type of holiday insurance doesn't cost nearly as much as you'd think, and it's well worth the peace of mind.

The good news about this form of holiday insurance is that it's very flexible. Unlike traditional policies that go by the month, or even holiday insurance policies that go by the trip, holiday car insurance can actually be purchased for single days if you prefer.

Once you know how long you need it for, you'll begin to get some prices. Everyone's price will be different, as there are a few things that might determine yours. Some of these would include your traffic violation history, accident history, where you're going, and other health risks, if any. How old you are matters too.

While you can't control the factors that determine price, there is one thing you can control. The longer you wait to get it, the more it'll cost so start looking early for your holiday car insurance.

You'll see that many carriers online offer free quoting options and other things that cost you nothing to learn about your options. Go for it, you won't regret it.

Glasgow City Breaks

By Karl Fraser

The article below takes a look at the Scottish city of Glasgow, once the second city of the British Empire, and some of the places in and around the area that you may wish to visit if you choose to take a vacation here.

Scotland is well known for such things as bagpipes, kilts and tartan and these items are closely associated with the turbulent history of the small nation in the United Kingdom of Great Britain. Scotland's history is often described as bloodthirsty at the very least an certainly the breathtaking scenery is littered with evidence of the nation's struggles through the ages and many such landmarks and ancient sites attract a great many visitors each year.

Sometimes it can be difficult to get around to see a reasonable number of these important sites but if you choose to stay in Glasgow you will be pleasantly surprised how many superb historical sites are within easy reach. Below I take a look at three brilliant examples of the places you can visit when you stay in this exciting city, Glasgow Cathedral, Crookston Castle and Newark Castle.

Glasgow Cathedral

St. Mungo is the patron saint of Glasgow and the city's most ancient Cathedral is dedicated to him. Glasgow has much to thank the saint for as it was he who first built a church there in the seventh century thus setting the foundations of this important city. St. mungo died in 612 and his original building was extended, altered and eventually replaced during the twelfth to thirteenth centuries. The Cathedral was consecrated in the year 1197, making it one of only a small number of medieval ecclesiastical buildings still standing following the destruction during the years of the Scottish Reformation and it is one of Glasgow's most important landmarks.

Crookston Castle

Crookston Castle is most well known for being owned by the Darnley Stewarts. It was Henry Stewart, Lord Darnley who became the second husband of Mary Queen of Scots. The castle is a stone ringwork fortress and keep built, by Sir Robert de Croc, during the 12th century passing over to the Stewarts i the mid 14th century.

Newark Castle

Newark Castle sits on the south shore of the Firth of Clyde, enjoying wonderful views across the river. In 1478, George Maxwell inherited the Barony of Finlanstone, and built himself a castle on the site. There are still parts of his castle visible today. Major changes were made to Newark Castle by the most notorious of George Maxwell's descendants, Sir Patrick Maxwell. In 1597, Sir Patrick constructed a new north range replacing the earlier hall, in the form of a three storey Renaissance mansion. In 1694, the last Maxwell died, and the castle was sold. When the last owner died, in 1909, the castle passed into state care, and is now looked after by Historic Scotland.

Of course there are numerous other historic places to visit in and around Glasgow but I hope that the three introduced above inspire you to discover more. Hopefully it will not be too long before you decide that your only option is to take a city break in Glasgow.

Disney Snow Globes Are An Excellent Choice For a Children's Collection

By Scott Jenson

Through out the years, both kids and adults have been fascinated by snow globes. Snow globes were originally designed as desk ornaments to keep papers down. Production of snow globes started in the 19th century. Manufacturers originally used rice to mimic the look of snow when the globes were shaken and the casing of the snow globes were made out of very heavy leaded glass. Today, snow globes are a dime a dozen and are often made out of cheap plastic. There are still some companies that create collectible snow globe collections that are made from glass.

The great thing about collecting snow globes is that they come in almost every type imaginable. Children love Disney snow globes because they can find several that contain their favorite characters. There are snow globes that include Minnie and Mickey Mouse's wedding, styles that have the famous castle, Pluto, Goofy and the rest of the Disney characters.

Collecting snow globes is a fun hobby because they aren't usually overly expensive. For the serious collector, older or antique snow globes can be quite pricey but in general it is very easy and inexpensive to start a snow globe collection.

Family and friends will have wonderful gift ideas for a child who collects Disney snow globes. When viewed through your eye, your snow globe offers a one of a kind perspective. A child's imagination can run wild when they observe the enchantment of a Disney snow globe.

To keep your Disney or other snow globes safe you should provide a sturdy shelf for them to be placed on. Some can be quite heavy and as the collection grows, so will the space they need. Providing a heavy duty shelf will assure that the snow globes don't fall to the floor and break, but will still allow the child or collector to get the full benefit of still having access to them whenever they wish.

Be sure to avoid storing your snow globes in direct sunlight to prevent fading over time. Snow globes kept at extreme high or low temperatures will be prone to cracks, especially if your globes are made of plastic material. The liquid inside present day snow globes is generally a combination of glycerin and water, which may experience some evaporation over a period of time. If you hope to one day sell your collection, refilling evaporated liquid in your snow globe will cause your snow globes to lose some of their value.

Deciding which theme to use for your snow globe collection may be baffling at first since there are so many to choose from. As stated above, Disney snow globes are a really great collection because there are so many to choose from, and children especially love them.

Top Christmas Gifts for Dad

By William Cain

Do you want to know what dads really want for Christmas? Dads want gifts that fulfill their manly man needs and wants. So what does that mean exactly? Dads needs almost always fall into these categories-teams, fellowship and neediness. What? Bare with me, anything involving teams whether it's on one, watching one, playing one on a game, doesn't matter. Fellowship with other fellows over some cold beverages can't be beat. Regardless of what they say they need to be needed. Repair this...fix that...guys need it. Keep reading for the best Christmas gifts for dad.

Cornhole Set-That's right cornhole. If you are unfamiliar with this, let's just say it is the ultimate beer drinking past time. There are 2 boards about 25 feet apart with a 6" hole cut in the middle. 2 teams-of-2 pair off and throw bean bags filled with...you guessed it, corn, at the opposite board trying to throw the bag in. First team to 21 wins. This is the perfect beer drinking "sport". It actually has gained popularity in the last year or two and you would be hard pressed not to find 100 people playing this at the nearest football tailgating event. You can get logo's put on them of his favorite team, designs, even a picure of a beer. This is my top pick for the best christmas gift for dad this year. I have a set and I absolutely love them. It's actually fun for the whole family, if he let's you all play.

LCD HD TV-No "man cave" is complete without life-size football players biting the dust 5 feet from you. The bigger the better. I would definitely not go with anything smaller than 42". Surround sound, a DVR, subscription to that "season pass" thing where you can watch every single game and again you are done shopping for dad. A definite best christmas gift if he doesn't already have one.

GPS (Global Positioning System)-We are all aware that most dads are "mr. direction" but remember, dads are guys. Nothing could be better than to have a brand new electronic gizmo to play with that he can program to have some sexy sounding woman give him direcitons. Plus it will give the misses peace of mind knowing that he will actually know where he is going.

Laptop-How powerful will he feel kicked back in the lazy boy, watching one game, checking the score of others at the same time without ever leaving his seat or changing the channel. Wow. There are so many varieties now and with today's technology, they are fairly inexpensive for what you can do with them. Even now they have the "min" laptops that are just as powerful as the real thing but can be acquired for less than $300 and come in all types of colors and designs. Throw in a wireless router and once again, dad's shopping is done.

Tattoo-Nothing you can give a man will say "I love you" anymore than giving him a tattoo. If he doesn't have it yet and really wants one, that just means that you probably don't want him to have it. So to save yourself the trouble of travelling to every tattoo shop in town, buy him a tattoo collection that you both can look at while at home. This way you have some say in it! After you pick it out together, go with him and watch him suffer. Read on and you'll know exactly where to get this at.

How to Get a UK Visitors Visa

By Owen Jones

Getting a UK visitor's visa to the UK is a frightening task. It is probably more difficult from some countries than others. So some peoples will have a harder time than others. However, this is not official government policy. You must not take this personally - it is a reflection of British public opinion. Please remember this when you are liaising about obtaining a UK visitor's visa with the embassy staff, who are only following government guidelines.

Take Note: a normal UK visitor's visa to the United Kingdom lasts 6 months and allows the recipient to enter and leave the country as often as he/she wishes. Normally, though, at least for the first visa, you will be restricted to the length of stay you specify in the interview. For example, if you say you want to go for two weeks, your six months visa will have a note pinned to it requiring you to leave after two weeks. You have to agree to this limitation in writing, although your UK visitor's visa is clearly valid for six months!

The UK visitor's visa also precludes you from access to public funds " social security, unemployment benefit, et cetera. Most people are refused a UK visitor's visa the first time because they do not have a strong enough, valid reason for going to Britain. If the reason is to visit a lover, then you have a far better chance if you can prove that you have had a continuing relationship for at least six months. At this stage of the proceedings, all your efforts should be directed at validating the reason for your visit or proving your relationship.

I will concentrate on providing evidence of a continuing relationship. Most applicants from poorer countries will need a sponsor. This is usually an employer or a lover. Obviously, immigration stamps in a passport can prove how long it is possible that a couple could have known each other, but you will need more evidence than that. A letter from a friend, employer or relative stating when you met can help. However, you should keep all correspondence, telephone bills, bank statements (recordings of ATM transactions), restaurant receipts, theatre tickets, train and bus tickets, even menus and photos. In fact, anything that can help establish that you are having the relationship that you claim you are having and that you have had it for at least six months.

Then you can proceed by obtaining the 'Visa Application Form (VAF) from the embassy or its website. The websites are very helpful for advising what you should include with your visa application form, but it will often include the 'evidence' mentioned above, the passport, the fee, photos, and sponsor's letter etc. In fact anything that helps your case even a little bit.

The sponsor is, therefore, the key to making a successful (first) attempt at obtaining a UK visitor's visa. The sponsor has to be prepared to act as guarantor for the applicant and the embassy staff will want to be able to check the sponsor's ability to take care of the applicant.

The sponsor, therefore, has to show a letter from his/her boss proving that he/she has a steady income and/or a bank passbook or statements proving sufficient funds to be able to cover his/her guarantee of taking care of your welfare while in Britain. But not only that, if you have said that you will stay in his/her house, you must provide a letter from the mortgage provider, the council or something similar. Proof of marriage or divorce does not appear relevant although the applicant may be asked. Sometimes seemingly strange reasons are cited for a refusal for a UK visitor's visa:

"the applicant for a UK visitor's visa has never left the country before " this is easier for some to remedy than others by hopping over the nearest border.

"the applicant for a UK visitor's visa has not displayed a strong enough economic or social bond to his/her country" meaning that they do not trust him/her to return to his/her native country. A letter from a relative, proof of children and a letter from the applicant's employer can help, although proof of children is not considered a compelling social reason to return! Proof of property ownership is useful.

Do not be tempted to hurry the application for a UK visitor's visa. Ensure that you have a 'valid reason' for wanting to go to the UK and remember it; ensure that you can prove everything that you say. Pretend for the day of the interview for a UK visitor's visa that you are a lawyer and provide solid, written proof.

Retell your 'story' to a friend until you are comfortable with it, because you don't want to appear hesitant, but on the other hand don't learn a story parrot-fashion. You will be alone at the interview and, although you will be required to answer some questions in English, the proceedings can be in English or your own language. UK visitor's visas are usually ready to be collected the following day, but not normally on a Friday.

Hint: apply for more time than you need as the UK visitor's visa runs from the day it is granted, but you may not be able to get a flight straight away. You will probably also be required to return to the issuing embassy when you arrive back to have the UK visitor's visa cancelled; after all, it is a multiple entry, 180-day visa that could be used to return to the UK without the sponsor's knowledge, so try not to arrive back on a Friday unless you want a holiday in the capital.

And lastly a warning: don't be tempted to lie - its not worth it. You will be caught out!

Here Are My Recommendations For The Best Banff Activities, Hotels and Banff Travel Deals

By Jorge Pensinita

My general commentary on Banff and choosing the best Banff Travel Deal, Activity or Banff Hotel may be of assistance to you, seeing that I am a regular traveler to Banff. Due to the fact that I am a skier, I usually travel to Banff or Lake Louise in the winter time. However, it is a good option to come to this resort anytime during the year as it truly is an all season Canadian lifestyle resort. If you have been considering Banff, you have definitely come to the right place for information on one of North America's top ski and gold destinations.

The town of Banff is located one hour west of Calgary, Alberta. In the area within Banff are three ski areas: Lake Louise, Sunshine and Norquay. All of these mountains are within a one hour drive from the town center. There are many golf courses in the area, with the most famous of which being the Fairmont Banff Springs course as well as Kananaskis. If you are seeking a winter or summer holiday, there is usually great travel deals to take advantage of in Banff.

Below you will find my 4 favorite Banff deals and luxury hotels in Banff.

1. The Fairmont Banff Springs: You can enjoy free nights if you stay at the famous and exclusive Farimont Banff springs for your winter vacation! If you book 4 nights before November 16, 2009, you will only pay for 3 and also get an additional $100 Food and Beverage Credit.

2. Rimrock: Rated 5 Stars and the only four diamond restaurant in Banff. Great for great for kids because it is located right across the street from Banff hot springs and they have an ice rink for their guests over the winter period. 20% off all stays after December 23, 2009 must be booked by Nov 15, 2009.

3. Fox Hotel: If you are looking for a moderately priced Banff holiday then I would highly recommend the Fox Hotel. This Banff accommodation is modern and very nice for romantic getaways or a winter family vacation. This is one of the few hotels in Banff that offer two bedroom suites.

4. Hidden Ridge: If you want a fairly inexpensive Banff vacation for the whole family then I would urge global travelers to check out this property located in Tunnel Mountain. All suites are very spacious with full kitchens, wood fireplace, private balcony and large flat screen TVs. Several tour operators will offer discounted lift tickets and activities. This generally occurs when you book your Banff hotel packages with them. A lift ticket is good at any of the three mountains in the area.

Banff has many great winter activities aside from skiing. One of which is dog sledding. This is quite a unique experience to Canada and one which is gaining alot of interest from international and domestic travelers. This activity will take you right into the backcountry of Alberta and will allow you the ultimate traditional outback Canadian adventure. Besides dog sledding, other popular winter activities include heli skiing, ice walks, ice climbing, snowmobiling, sleigh rides and ice fishing.

Summer in Banff is also a great time of year. This town is a real golfers dream and there are world class courses available to play. You can also experience the summer in Banff with activities such as ziptreking, fishing, whitewater rafting and nature trips allowing you to view eagles, wolves, rams, mountain lions and even grizzly bears.

Banff is a fantastic resort in all four seasons and you really cannot go wrong with selecting it as your travel destination. Personally, I have yet to experience everything Banff has to offer, however I certainly have done most of it and can give you some fair insight. No matter what you ultimately choose, you will be impressed with the diversity of what Banff has to offer.

4 Smart Tips to do Holiday Shopping more Effectively

By Ellie Evergreen

This Christmas many parents are looking for the perfect gift to get their children. They also have to do it on a budget and still have enough left over for other holiday shopping musts. This can be challenging especially for families on reduced income. So how do you go about getting ready for the holidays when the money just doesn't seem available? Here are some economical suggestions and tips to help you get ready for the holiday and still make it special.

Plan and Save. The sad fact is that many people and families don't really quite know what a real budget or saving plan looks like. It normally is here are X amount of bills and here is X amount of money. How can you juggle the money to pay the more important bills? A real budget will give you a strategy to meet your daily expenses and still put aside a little bit for later. So the first thing to do is go over what you need to pay, what can be delayed until later, or even better payed in smaller pieces. This will give you a realistic view of what you can do. Then look at what you have paid in past Christmases. Looking at bank statements or credit card bills will help you with that. Line up what you expect to spend with what you earn and make the hard decisions. It might mean cutting back on some luxury in everyday expenses or replacing a holiday tradition with a cheaper alternative. The point is reconcile and then start a savings plan. If you need extra cash try to find small things you can do now in the fall to earn that extra saved income and keep it saved.

Look for savings in your holiday. There are often things that you pay for during the holiday that you don't really need to pay for or you can replace with a cheaper alternative. For example it may mean using cheaper tree ornaments or making some holiday treats yourself. If you can find reasonable and doable alternatives you can help maintain the integrity of your Christmas and not lose a thing.

Shop smarter when looking for toys. There are countless ways to save money buying presents for your kids. Hopefully the cash you have saved will be some help. First, look in store publications and News for information on sales and price cuts on popular toys. Second, try to maximize the purchases for each child by setting a max amount. A great idea for younger kids is that Santa is giving kids the choice this year to get one extra special present or pick two or three smaller gifts. Try to explain it in a way your children can understand. Finally use non credit payment programs like layaway for toys you know your kids just "have" to have.

Try to get things the whole family can enjoy. To offset the extra toy, look for items that your entire family can enjoy. This can be a game, TV, or a computer. The criteria is that everyone will benefit. One great idea that all your younger children can enjoy for an affordable price is personalized letters from Santa. These are customized letters with info about your children and their wish list. This is great because your kids have their faith in Santa affirmed and you can deny that you were the one that got the gifts this year.

Older girls can try the full-length black and red Victorian Vampiress Child Costume or the sassy Fairy Licious Vamp Fairy Teen Costume. The latter includes black wings and looks great with the Barbed Wire Tiara. Boys can look a bit more intimidating with the Classic Vampire Child Costume.

You do need the right accessories to be the perfect vampire. Luckily, we've got you covered there too. After all, what is a vampire without fangs or a cape? We do indeed have fangs. The Vampire Fangs in Coffin look very authentic and attach to each tooth separately. The Glow Fangs are a popular option for little kids though. Need a cape? We've got a black Big and Tall Cape, as well as a red Floor Length Cape. Either way, you can't go wrong. Finally, complete your look with a wig and facial makeup. Congrats! You officially have the coolest costume around.

Do Cheap Summer Holidays Exist

By Craig Walker

If you are thinking going on a summer holiday and are concerned about the cost, then you are not unique. Umpteen people especially in the current financial problems we are feeling are worried about what lies ahead and whether they should book a summer vacation in early.

Many people hear about other people who have had stunning bargains by booking early or a late deal or getting a holiday cancelled at the last minute. Do these offers actually exist or are they just a selling gambit by the holiday firms.

A cheap holiday to one individual may not actually be a steal to someone else. This is where a lot of the problems tend to originate from. Some people earn far more than other individuals do so a bargain to them could be unaffordable to someone else.

There are many options to help cut the cost of your next summer holiday by searching out for special internet discounts. It is not rare to receive discounts of up to 10% off a holiday simply by reserving direct with the holiday firm online.

Another way to cut costs on the general cost of a family vacation is if the holiday company offers you a free kid place. It is not unusual for a holiday firm to do this specifically in a particular accommodation that they have a lot of rooms in. Normally the accommodation is a family property that offers childrens activities or youngsters clubs to keep the children busy throughout the day.

Pick a popular destination where there is a lot of rivalry between all the holiday firms as this will also help keep the charges down. There is nothing like a bit of rivalry to make the companies fight for you patronage by offering a deduction or a special upgrade. This can also work in reverse in a location where there is little or no competitor there will be no need to offer large discounts.

As with most things you can buy the best option is to always shop around for your summer holiday to make sure you get the best deal achievable.

Finding a Special Place in Antarctica

By Abigail Wood

Few people reside in Antarctica the White Continent and it has stayed largely unexplored to this day. This icy frontier in the south is not owned by anyone so it can be visited by whoever whenever. Antarctica terrain today is not at all different from the Antarctica that existed years ago since human intervention to it has been minimal. Only wildlife plus a number of testing labs can be found existing within the continent. Few tourist destinations compare with the unpolluted wonder of Antarctica which is why more and more people want to vacation there.

Fitting inside the Arctic Circle the whole of Antarctica is also twice the breadth of another continent. To reach the region one has to go by air as the White Continent is surrounded by water everywhere. But with cruise ships now discovering the appeal of Antarctica there is the choice of going by boat to see the place. Close to 6000 is the average snow and ice density listed for the White Continent. This is roughly 90 percent of all ice found scattered around the world.

The world keeps tabs on icebergs and other masses of ice in Antarctica as a way of determining the global warming situation and the weather. Glacier activities in Antarctica are likewise monitored by scientists to determine if climate change has actually started happening. With plenty of wild animals thriving in the area it is easy for them to also keep an eye on such creatures. Their numbers fluctuate based on how much water and ice is present in the continent as well as how much food is available for the various animal packs.

Antarctica is the highest of the continents at a height of 7380 feet. While Antarctica has biting cold temperatures it also has a climate that is considered exceptionally dry by the rest of the world. Deserts and this area receive just about the same amount of rain in a year. However it is snowing more frequently these days compared to previous years as a result of changes in weather and climate. Climate change has also been seen by experts as a reason why huge chunks of Antarctica break off and disappear with one happening in 2000 and another one five years earlier.

There are whales and seals and penguins aplenty in Antarctica. Antarctica waters also give a home for giant squids. Those who travel during spring will likely catch a glimpse of humpbacks or whales brushing against the ship as this is when their primary food of krill is plentiful. There are also a lot of penguin babies hatching right about this time. Weddell and Leopard seals dot the icy landscape while Albatrosses come flying all around in the sky.

The unique charm of Antarctica is what sets it apart from the rest of the world. Although it has remained largely untouched more has been learned about the White Continent thanks to the efforts of scientists assigned in research stations put there. The pull of Antarctica increases with each additional info released about the place so people want to travel there even more. The increased demand for Antarctica tours has forced several cruise liners to create more vacation schedules for this section of the world.

If a vacation in Antarctica sounds appealing to you than start preparing and planning for it. Take your time when deciding among various Antarctica cruises as cruise liners serve them up in different shapes and sizes. A ship headed in this direction cannot be had anytime of the year however as travels are seasonal and vessels used also tend to be on the small side. If Antarctica is your next cruise destination be smart and make early reservations.

5 Smart Tips for Christmas Shopping

By Ellie Evergreen

As soon as Thanksgiving is over many families will be scrambling to find great deals on Christmas gifts. However how can you find good savings when you do your Christmas shopping? The key is information and planning. Knowing where and when sales are happening, special payment plans, rebates and other information can determine how effectively you will shop for the items on your family's Christmas list. The important thing is to find where the best deals are at in order to maximize your shopping experience. Here are some great tips to get you started.

First off shop earlier. The recession is changing everyone's shopping habits and so everyone is being smarter about when to shop. This mean that you procrastinate at your own peril. Shopping early also give you time to browse through what is out there and make quality choices. The sooner you do this the better the selection you will have to choose from. The best part is also that you can have more options for how to shop. One of them is shopping online.

Shop on a budget. With money being tighter many families are needing to plan their spend. Gone are the days when people could just go to the mall on the spur of the moment and just randomly pick gifts. However this does not have to be as limiting as you think. It actually can be an opportunity to expand what you normally would purchase for your family. The important thing is to look at your kid's wishlist. Look at the items that they really want and plan accordingly. The best part of budgeting is that you start early you can plan for any extra expenses. Budgeting will allow you to prioritize what will be the most important item on your kids wish list and know what to expect concerning prices.

The next thing you need to do is try whenever possible to avoid using credit. Of course most people at this time are trying to avoid it like the plague. For all the spending power it gives you paying the credit card bills later on can be a nightmare. Online payment options and debit cards make it easier to avoid the credit trap. If you have properly saved and budgeted, you will find yourself enjoying the spending freedom that you would normally get from a credit card without any of the regrets.

A new phenomenon is shopping online. In previous years it has been slow in catching on as people were doubtful they would find any good deals online compared to just hoofing it at their local mall or department stores. This has changed with the economy and as people have become more comfortable with the internet. The best thing about the internet is that rather than having to physically walk to similar department stores on opposite ends of the mall to compare prices. You can search out items instantaneously on a search engine and just go ahead and compare prices side by side.

Something special you can do for your kids this Christmas is along with their presents have them receive a special letter from Santa. Santa letters are part of growing cadre of online holiday themed services that you can take advantage of for reasonable prices. You can have the letters customized and personalized for each child so they will really believe Santa has been keeping an eye on them all year.

Christmas Jigsaw Puzzles : A Great Way To Bring Your Family Together

By Colin Southwell

The putting together of jigsaw puzzles is a nice, wholesome family tradition that you might want to consider introducing this holiday season.

Not just any puzzle though, the best idea is a personalized Christmas jigsaw puzzle. It can have a holiday theme, or be a retrospective of family and friend photos from the previous year.

There are many different sizes, shapes and styles to choose from. These puzzles range from large pieces for kids to many tiny pieces for experts. When choosing a family puzzle, going for one with lots of pieces is best, so that everyone can pitch in and the project won't be over too soon.

They represent a great way to bring the family, immediate members and those paying you a festive visit, together. Everyone can add a few pieces and feel as though they are contributing. In a time when quality family time seems to be a premium, and everyone is away doing their own thing, a family jigsaw puzzle can be just the right solution.

It is so easy to order a personalized Christmas jigsaw puzzle for your family. First, you need to choose a photo or make a photo collage. This is then sent digitally or through the mail to the puzzle company. From there, they will retouch photo damage and print your images onto a high quality puzzle surface. The pieces will be enclosed in a clear zip bag and put inside a box for easy gift giving.

Whether or not you wrap your family puzzle and let everyone help open it is up to you. An image of the finished puzzle is in the box, which can help with assembly but, if you want the image to be a surprise, take it out.

So, hopefully I've done enough to convince you of the merits of personalized Christmas jigsaw puzzles. It's something that is a little out of the ordinary, but which is based on a tried, tested and loved activity. What family wouldn't love to receive such a special and memorable gift?

Kuching and Sarawak - A Sparkling History And Hidden Gems

By Joseph Archibald

The south eastern island of Malaysia is made up of Sarawak and Sabah, which are part of Borneo - the third largest island in the world. Borneo is split between three countries - Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. The capital city of Sarawak is Kuching, which is the largest city on Borneo with a population of almost 600,000 people, mostly Malays and Chinese.

The city is thought to be named after the Malay word for cat although it would be spelled "Kucing" now and Kuching is the old spelling. However, some people believe the city's name comes from the word "cochin" which as an Indian word meaning "port". Or indeed, it may come from the Cantonese word for "old place".

As a reward to the British, in 1841 Sarawak was ceded to James Brooke, a British adventurer, by the Sultanate of Brunei for coming to his aid and putting down a rebellion. James Brooke made Kuching his headquarters and capital. The family Brooke ruled Sarawak until the occupation of the Japanese a hundred years later, in 1941.

Not long after Japan became involved in the Second World War however, they took possession of Borneo in 1941 and it remained under their control until September of 1945. The territory was officially handed back to the British by the Japanese on September 11th, with all papers being signed in Kuching.

The last British Raja of the territory - Sir Charles Vyner Brooke - ceded it to the British Crown, which at the time was ruled by King George VI, the father of the current Queen Elizabeth. It remained under British rule even though there was an undeclared declaration of war by President Sukarno of Indonesia, who wished to regain the territory.

In September of 1963 the British declared Sarawak's independence at which time Sarawak, Sabah, Singapore and North Borneo all joined to form the Federation of Malaya. Singapore was expelled from the Federation only 2 years later to become the financial powerhouse it is now, and very much dominated by the very hard working Chinese.

As a side note, before European rule and domination the Republic of Singapore back in the 1600's by Dutch and then the Portuguese, the highly affluent Singapore was a simple Malay fishing village, which is such a contrast to todays powerhouse.

Creating a Custom Home Theater

By Owen Jones

Watching movies is a great escape from the stressful lifestyle we all live nowadays. Watching movies on a wide screen with surround sound can transport you far away from that stress into the movie you are watching. You experience the plot it as if you were actually there in the movie itself.

Until recently, we could only experience this escapism in a cinema. However, modern technology is able to provide the same visual and sound experience right in your own living room. We will discuss the basic components of a home theater system in this article. Read on to understand how these basic components can deliver the best cinematic experience in a custom home theater system.

Home theater experts state that the most important consideration in setting up a custom home theater system is the size of the room where you will set up the home theater system. The most important component of your custom home theater system, which is the television, is dependent on the size of the room, although the recommendation is that a 27 inch television set is the minimum necessary for your home theater set up.

It is also recommended that a flat-screen television be used for a home theater system because it shows less glare and creates a crisper image. Another major component in a custom home theater system which is again dependent on the size of the location, is the loudspeaker system.

The number of speakers for your custom home theater system is dependent on the size of the room. You need at least three speakers to create surround sound, but you may place up to six speakers, if you want a more lifelike sound. Adding a subwoofer may also be a good way to achieve a complete surround sound like in the movie theaters. Three speakers is the minimum, although you may need up to six if the room is big.

Another major piece of kit for your custom home theater system is the digital DVD player. It is a recommendation that DVD players with a progressive scan are the best choice. This is because the progressive scan creates sharp, flicker-free images. However, this points back to the choice of television unit; you may need to check if the flat-screen television set supports progressive scan protocols. You may also want to buy a five-disk carrousel DVD player. This will stop you having to get up from your chair to change discs quite so often.

A minor cause for thought is the output of the DVD player as that will decide how loud your loudspeakers can be turned up. Of course, almost all this depends on the size of the location in which the custom home theater system is going to be set up. Small rooms only need a few types of equipment, bigger rooms may require more and adding some proprietary home theater furniture to your home theater system will make a big difference. A bigger room therefore needs a larger investment. A smaller room might require less, but nevertheless high quality, equipment to prevent your home theater set-up under-performing and feeling 'cheap'.

And finally, you may want to consider hiring an expert in home theater in order to set up a beautifully designed custom home theater system. If you can afford it, this is definitely the best way to go, because a home theater expert will be able to design and set up your custom home theater more effectively .

That custom home theater expert may also suggest the installation some additional features like specialized home theater seating and even other home theater furniture, such as small tables in order to make your home theater package complete and thereby make it more closely resemble an authentic movie theater. Having the finest and highest-quality custom home theater system will give you a most desirable installation, one that you can be proud of and that will enable you to enjoy your movies to the utmost.

Baby Gifts are the Main Attraction at the Baby Shower

By Edie Mindell

When it comes to baby showers, one of the moments most anticipated is the gift giving segment of the event. There are no words that can describe the feeling when you are watching the mommy-to-be reach for the present you gave and begin to open it. The excitement is overwhelming, and your heart fills with joy as you watch her eyes glisten while she unwraps it. The best part of all this is satisfaction knowing that your gift is unique, original, and will be of great use to the mommy-to-be and her precious baby. This article will offer some great gift-giving ideas that are distinct, extremely useful, and will make the expectant mother smile from ear to ear.

One heartwarming idea that is adorable and shows thoughtfulness and care is a personalized piggy bank. These days, parents are placing an emphasis on saving for their babys future and career. A customized piggy bank with a financial seed towards the babys savings fund makes a great gift from a family member. This is not only a cute gift, but also a smart one; it is crucial that parents begin thinking of their childs future from the day they are born. Some people prefer giving a piggy bank with a gift card from a baby department store or childrens clothing store.

Baby gift baskets are also very original, and each basket is going to be a one-of-a-kind gift. Buy a decent sized pretty basket (the material, shape, and color of the basket are up to you), fill it up with items that you think will be the most beneficial to the expectant mother, and decorate it. Popular items to fill your baby gift basket with are baby bottles, bibs, pacifiers, infant toys, baby clothing, and gift cards. Some people throw in a little something extra for the mommy, such as a spa massage gift card or a book. Candy and chocolates can also make your basket sweeter, and will satisfy some of mommys cravings. Whatever you decide to put in your basket, make sure to make it is personalized, and consider items that you know the expectant mother will need or want.

Personalized baby jewelry is a popular gift in Latin America, but not so common in the United States. A tiny golden bracelet with the babys name is endearing and beautiful, and it will make a great keepsake as your baby grows older. Any kind of baby jewelry, whether it be personalized or not, makes a wonderful gift which everyone will think is absolutely adorable.

Today, a new trend for mothers in the United States is to sport a cute, stylish baby diaper bag, which they can easily turn into tote bags or even laptop cases once the baby grows older. From designer baby bags to non-label, trendy baby bags, there are numerous different types of diaper bags that will look great and fit budgets of all sizes. Some popular designer baby bags, or multi-function totes, as they call them, are made by COACH, Kate Spade, and Louis Vuitton. However, today, there are many non-label, cool baby bags that are equally as trendy and a fraction of the cost.

How to Rent a Car in Copenhagen

By Martin Elmer

It is very simple to rent a car in Copenhagen. In both the airport and in the city centre, you will find all the major car rental agencies like: Budget, Hertz, Avis, Europcar and Sixt. So if you have a deal with one of them (or just have your favorite) you can find them in Copenhagen.

In Copenhagen Airport all the agencies have car rental in the corridor between Terminal 2 and 3 (the international part of the airport). When you are arriving and have got your luggage, just turn left and walk about 50 meters. Then you will see the car rental agency signs.

Three of the car rental agencies are represented in the domestic part of the airport (Terminal 1): Hertz, Avis and Europcar. If you prefer Budget or Sixt, you can use the free airport bus to Terminal 3. The ride takes only a few minutes.

In Copenhagen all of the agencies are located in the city centre; close to the Main Station, the Town Hall Square, the Tivoli Garden and many of the hotels.

If you are used to rent cars in the United States, you will probably find the car rental in Copenhagen pretty expensive. But there are ways to get a cheaper car.

The best way to get a cheaper car is to rent the car in the weekend. Many of the agencies have special weekend offers. Long term rental is another way to rent a cheaper car. You can often rent a car for a whole weekend for the same price as 4 or 5 days. Normally the price will also be lower, if you prepay the car instead of just renting it at arrival.

The car rental in Copenhagen is not just more expensive; they are also smaller than in most other countries (especially the United States). But in Denmark the distances are short, so unless you bring a big family and a lot of luggage, a small car will do just fine.

But of course it is possible to rent the big cars in Copenhagen. All the major European luxury car companies can be found at the car rental agencies in Copenhagen; including Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. It is also possible to rent both cabriolets (great in the summer) and BMW Mini Coopers (great for easy parking).

It will take around four to six weeks to acquire a passport in the U.S. When preparing for your river cruise in Europe, it is important to accord yourself with enough time between the start of the passport application process to boarding the water vessel. Leucadia - Where Surfers and Business People Meet

By Carlos Hunnefeld

Leucadia is an eclectic little community on the Pacific Ocean. It once was a mecca for hippies and surfers - remnants of those 1960s days can be seen throughout this north San Diego community. Here you will find palm trees, wooden cigar store Indians, tie-dyed T-shirts and blue jeans, barefoot kids playing in the streets, funky lawn art and glowing beads.

Settled by English spiritualists in 1870, Leucadia was named after some Greek islands and its streets were named for mythological figures. You won't find a Home Depot, McDonald's or shopping mall in Leucadia, but you will still find some of the flower farms that made it the Poinsettia capitol of the world.

Leucadia is home to some of San Diego's finest Italian restaurants, eclectic "head" shops, heated-sauna yoga studios, mysterious palm readers and ultra-hip art galleries. Local hangouts include the very popular Pannikin Coffee & Tea in the old Encinitas train station (very chic); world-famous Lou's Records (home of a huge collection of new and used CDs and records); and Karina's Taco Shop, where you can experience the best Shrimp Burritos ever invented.

Leucadia's residents say that the best thing that ever happened to Leucadia was that nothing ever happened to it. Leucadia's beaches are lost in the 1960s and are old neighborhood surf breaks where hundreds of Leucadian's have been surfing for thirty or more years. There are four especially popular surf beaches - Moonlight, Grandview, Beacon's and Stone Steps - all are hidden treasures.

Fitness enthusiasts will get a great workout at Stone Steps Beach. These killer stairs lead down from the bluffs to the ocean offer incredible views while you huff and puff. At high tide the ocean beats at the bottom of the stairs, at low tide, the beach is wide and sandy.

You can learn to surf by taking a class at Beacon's Beach from world-famous Kahuna Bob, a Leucadian celebrity. Dolphins and whales are regularly seen, especially from the "high-bluff" beach entrances at Stone Steps and Beacon's. If you're lucky, you'll see the famous "green flash" as the sun takes its final dip into the vast Pacific Ocean.

Leucadia's largest beach, Moonlight Beach, is often called "the beach with everything" because it has lifeguard towers, a big playground for children, roomy parking lots, safe play areas, fire-rings for use after sunset, clean restrooms and showers and a very wide, very sandy beach.

By Alexa Morrison

When you choose to buy a pink Christmas tree, you are going to limit your choices when it comes to adorning it.

Though pink Christmas trees are beautiful to look at, you have to be very choosy though in choosing the colors that you want in your tree. You should select colors that will better highlight its elegance and avoid colors that will make it appear garish.

For this reason, here are some do's and don'ts in selecting the decorative pieces for your pink Christmas tree.

What You Should Consider

You must always select shades that go best with the color pink. The best decorative ornaments that you can use with your pink Christmas trees are the pieces that complement the color of your pink Christmas tree. One good color that will be perfect for your unique Christmas tree is gold. Not only does gold/silver accentuate the tree and bring style to it, but it does not draw your interest away from the tree itself.

Another shade that is ideal for your pink Christmas tree is white, and there are a lot of white ornamental pieces that will highlight the beauty of your tree. Decorating your tree with pink pieces is also okay. Just remember is that if you bought a dark pink tree, you should select light pink ornaments, and vice versa.

Certainly, a Christmas tree is not complete without Christmas lights, so you can make use of pink-colored lights or, again, white or silver lights.

What You Should Avoid

As stated above, you are given limited options if you desire an elegant pink Christmas tree.

When adorning your pink Christmas tree, you should avoid red Christmas decorative pieces. Their hues conflict, and the color will not look good on your tree. The same is correct when you choose orange-colored decorative pieces. You want to have a Christmas tree, not a cake disguised like a Christmas tree.

You must also avoid exaggerating the ornaments of your pink Christmas tree. Rather than using a lot of Christmas balls and frilly ornaments, you can glam it up by adding simple yet elegant ribbons or silver tinsels hanging from the branches. Make sure that you use them in moderation and never put too much decorations in your pink Christmas tree.

Taking Out a Christmas Loan

By Rachel Howard

When you believe December, think Yuletide. Christmas season is the time for celebration, exchanging Yuletide wishes and gifts, and attending Christmas parties. This is one holiday that people of all age groups look forward to each year. The essence of Christmas creates a utopian world where folks love to enjoy and make merry. With Xmas just round the corner, and you have the Christmas shopping to finish. Extra cash would come in handy to buy Christmas gifts for relations and pals. If your savings have been depleted or if you are not utilizing it, you can approach the banks or the fiscal institutions for a Xmas loan. Banks have facilities to grant celebration loans.

While making an application for a Yuletide loan, check the reliability of the bank ; you need to read the conditions and also find out the interest rate. Many fiscal establishments give their customers the capability to apply for loans over the web. All you have got to do is fill the net application and submit the required info. Xmas loans are unsecured personal loans that are approved and granted without any sort of credit corroborations. The Christmas / celebration loan amount is often small, ranging between a few hundreds and ten thousand bucks. Yuletide loans are granted to folks who need to go for a vacation or need to buy Yuletide gifts for family members and buddies. Xmas / celebration loans are approved quickly as the banks and the money establishments have recently assessed the danger of lending. So, even someone with subprime credit score or blemished credit history can make an application for a Christmas loan.

The high street banks might not always be your favourite place to look so it's good to look online to find the top deal for you. A handy place to start your search is on an online credit card comparison page. Here you can enter make some choices about the card you would like ( such as whether you want to find a card that has a yearly fee or whether you care about a cash back bonus ). You may then be given a listing of mastercards that suit your selections, and you can then sort the results by order of importance of any of the columns of information that you are given ( like introductory interest rate or number of interest free days ).

despite the tough competition between numerous money banks to grant Xmas or celebration loans, most of them would lend the amount only if they know you are in a position to repay it. While signing up for the loan you would have to submit the income evidence for verification. Many non-public fiscal establishments want you to pay back the loan amount within 30 days or maximum 60 days. So make sure that you have enough money left at the end of the holiday month to repay the loan amount and also live nicely until your next pay day.

The most effective way though, to make certain that youre debt free all year long is to not get into the debt. This isn't an easy option, but if you plan your money affairs so you do not have to slide into debt for Xmas, then this may give you a better chance of not needing to borrow money next Xmas. Debt could be a problem that spirals out of control, so be sure your monetary snowball is moving into the black, and not into the red, and the bad news that comes with that debt.

4 Wonderful Things to do this Xmas

By Ellie Evergreen

Christmas is just two months away and you are now scrambling to get the funds and items together to make it happen. This is probably more difficult for families that are living with incomes that are smaller than last year. However a great way to make up for what you can't afford is family holiday activities and crafts. These are things that everyone can do that will not cost a lot but will still bring about warmth and good cheer on the Christmas Holidays. They are things that will not only be inexpensive but will get the entire family involved and help make great Christmas memories. You might surprise yourself in the end by having fonder memories of this Christmas than others when you may have had more money.

Stockings are a common traditional item that is hung over fireplaces so that Santa can put small toys and treats in them. Rather than spending the extra money to get ready made ones, have your kids make their own this year. This is a great idea as it is an opportunity to come up with something fun the family can do together as the holidays approach. Make sure to purchase glue and a hot gun along with decorations so that kids can personalize their Stockings. The result will be lovely and unique creations that will help to decorate your living room. They can also be kept as mementos of a special Christmas.

Making holiday cookies and other baked goods is another great idea. There are plenty of delicious baked treats that are popular during this time of year. Once again why, spend money on buying something that is store bought when you can do it from scratch or at least cook it at home. Make sure that you do this with the older kids who can handle items in the kitchen. Give younger children simpler task like decorating finished cookies or Gingerbread men and houses. The kitchen becomes a place where the entire family works together to make their favorite dishes. These are great memories that can last a life time.

For Activities there are plenty that don't cost any money at all. You can download lyrics of popular Carols and Christmas songs and spend the evening doing Christmas Karaoke. Do you have a board game that the family does not play often? Make Christmas a special Game night when everyone can come together to play. These are just some of the many activities you can do. The point is that every family is engaged and having fun. We often forget that Christmas is not just about the presents but spending time with loved ones. In some cases you will be surprised to find out that kids will be happier with fewer or cheaper presents if it means having Mom and Dad there. This is the true spirit of Christmas.

Another thing that you can do is help your younger kids believe in Santa. This can be a challenging proposition as in this day and age your kids are probably born skeptics and will question anything you try to do. This means the Santa suit will likely fail this year. A good way to convince is your kid is with a call from Santa. Santa Phone calls are great because you order them so a third party will be making the call and you will be right there when your child answers the phone.

Make More Use Of Regional Airports

By Michael Bolderwood

Flying can often be something of a chore. Even when flying for leisure purposes, we can soon tire of spending endless hours at the airport. Although many of the major airports try to have as many shops and stores within the terminal buildings as possible, it can be particularly difficult to keep the family entertained. So what are the alternatives?

It might be possible for you to think about not flying at all. There are a few options available that might make this possible, such as having holidays closer to home or using different forms of transport. But such options still won't be perfect for everyone. It may be that you need to travel long distances on a regular basis and have little choice but to fly. In that case, have you thought about whether you could take more flights from your local airport?

On the face of it, this may sound like a very strange suggestion. Local, regional airports will almost always be on a smaller scale and are likely to have a smaller selection of amenities. You might imagine that they would make an even worse place to spend time. Fortunately, those of us who do make use of regional airports know that they're often far quicker to use than their larger rivals. This is something that I've witnessed myself when flying from Bournemouth Airport and Southampton Airport. The airports at these locations are much less busy and crowded than the big London airports.

As a result, you tend to spend a lot less time in queues or waiting for the various security checks. You can even avoid having to arrive at the airport quite so far in advance of your flight's departure time. You'll also discover that making use of a local airport can be a wonderful way to reduce your overall travelling time. It's often possible to cut 2 or 3 hours from the journey time if you're happy to use your local airport.

A key concern for many people when using regional alternatives is the thought that flights are more likely to be expensive. This was something that I was really worried about initially but I soon realised that flights from local airports were often cheaper because you tend to pay less taxes. If you've not tried making use of regional airports then it's certainly worth giving them a try.

5 Inexpensive and Enjoyable Xmas Activities

By Ellie Evergreen

This winter, many parents want to make the holidays special for their children but face a limited or reduced income. So what can a parent do to still make the holidays a wonderful time without having to spend beyond their means? One way is to look for more activities to do together as a family. This can not only cut on the cost of presents but allow the family to enjoy precious family time. In this day and age it seems too often that we have thought we could purchase Christmas cheer. However it comes from sharing good times with loved ones. Here are some simple and affordable activities you can do together as a family.

Decorating the tree is a common family activity at Christmas time. However many people tend to buy new ornaments every years. A good thing to do this year is make your ornaments. With a bit of practice and know how your family can make homemade creations that not only look great but are also inexpensive to make. This is also a great opportunity for your family to spend quality time and make some great holiday memories. Also ornaments can become family heirlooms with important memories linked to significant events. This will make your ornaments all the more special.

Making holiday snacks is another cost effective and fun tradition. Rather than buying a lot of the traditional holiday treats this year, you can try making them. It can be something as simple as making smores and hot cocoa to making more famous holiday desserts and foods. The challenge of learning and mastering each dish will make cooking the foods a family event. Try to get the entire family involved assigning tasks that each family member can do. There are also the traditional snacks for Santa that you will leave for him when he comes to visit such as milk and cookies. You can even have the kids decorate them.

A great activity to do is have a family game night. One of things that often happens during the year is that families are often kept apart by school, work, and after school activities. This makes it rare to just have a time when everyone comes together to have fun. A game night is great because most likely your family has a couple of board games that it hasn't played in a while. This already cuts down on the cost of entertainment. Even if you have to buy a game the cost should be within your budget.

Purchase a gift the entire family can use. If you are still thinking about spending serious money, but want to get maximum value, buying something the entire family can use is a wise investment. It can be a trampoline or a foosball table. Whatever item it is, if picked carefully it can actually help you save money. The total cost of buying that one item will likely be less than buying everyone the same amount of presents as last year.

Finally you can do something special for your younger children helping them to believe in Santa. You can have them receive a Santa Letter on Christmas Day. The letter will have information on what they wanted for Christmas and how good they were this year.

The Cayman Islands of the Western Caribbean

By Joe Fabris

South of Cuba in the heat of the western Caribbean, the three Cayman Islands are the visible summits of the Cayman Ridge, an underwater mountain range which drops suddenly into the 7,100 m (22,000 ft) Cayman Trench, separating them from Jamaica.

Grand Cayman is by far the largest. The Sister Islands of Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are mostly a wilderness of fruit trees, orchids and cacti where tranquility and an authentic West Indian culture are the main attractions. Just 145 km (90 ml) to the southwest, Grand Cayman at first resembles nothing so much as a transplanted American urban nightmare.

The capital, George Town, and Seven Mile Beach, its renowned local playground, are full of condos, resorts, satellite dishes and mini-malls. The streets teem with bankers and the faceless suits of the institutions that have made it the world's fifth largest financial centre.

Five days a week, cruise liners decant up to 22,000 tourists, joining the millions each year whose holidays have given the Cayman Islands the eighth highest GDP per capita in the world.

George Town is so busy, loud, and determinedly up for it, you feel the privateers and pirates of former times have merely put on modern dress in their eagerness to empty your wallet.

In the small towns and villages outside George Town, the atmosphere changes immediately. Grand Cayman's true self is African-European, deeply Christian, conservative and church-going (there are lots of churches).

The locals are openly friendly and well-mannered, laughing and hospitable. Isolated by the central mangrove wetlands -3,440 hectares (8,500 acres) of lush forests, emerald green parrots and bright orange frogfish, the mainspring of the complex ecology that maintains both the turtle grass and shrimp mounds of North Sound Marine Reserve, Rum Point typifies Grand Cayman at its best.

A Quick Glance At Common European River Cruise Myths

By Jason Myers

If you are planning a European river cruise and have shared this information with others such as family houeshold members, friends, neighbors, and even your peers at work, it is most likely that you have been informed of some of the myths emanating from cruise journey. However, it is likely that these myths were relayed as "truths". It has been estimated that approximately thirteen million individuals travel on cruises each and every single year, but several other million individuals will not board a cruise on account of some of the "things" that people tell them.

Here, I will outline some of the most common myths associated with the popular European cruises sailing along the rivers and offering services to guest travellers.

The first and probably the most commonly identified myth is the occurence of seasickness. It is a fact that there are cases of this happening to some. However, the barges, cruises, and boats that sail in the waterways of Europe are now considered to be exceptionally stable when it comes to design. In effect, this rarely happens. In terms of health conditions, another myth surrounds the "Norwalk Virus". Sometimes, people will hear about illness outbreaks on cruise ships. Each comes down with a stomach problem and it is assumed that the food is toxic or there is something onboard causing it. The truth is, whenever people are gathered, spread of viruses may be inevitable. If you take precautions like washing your hands on a regular basis, and avoid sharing eating and drinking utensils, you will probably never fall ill on a European river cruise.

Many individuals have an immense concern that cruise ships are relatively dangerous. They are frightened that they may drop, or these vessels become subject to pirates or terrorists and other types of situations.

The fact is, statistics shows that European river cruises appear as the safest tours in the world. If something happens, they are close to land and help may be sought now. , the figure is extremely negligible. Moreover, all ships employ security personnel and a high level of security. If you are apprehensive to try a European river cruise because of these myths, loosen up. Go ahead and plan your trip and savour observing the beauty that Europe has to offer you.

The Magic of Collecting Snow Globes

These are some things to consider if this is the hobby for you. Snow globes come in a wonderful assortment and even if you collect 5 or 500 will be a wonderful addition to your home. Remember that the history of snow globes is as fun as collecting these little beauties.

Denver Haunted Houses

By Chris Dotson

Every city has their haunted house, real good ones that provide great services according to Realhaunts.com. Denver in this case is no exception to this rule. Here are some of the best haunted houses provided in Denver that are a residence to some very interesting ghosts.

The Molly Brown House in Denver. This unusual house is definitely one of the scariest of all, even the employees that work there have reported unusual activity taking place in the work area. Tons of thrills to make you jump such as shadows moving around you when no light can be found to produce them, piano keys moving in sequence when no sound is made. Lots of people comment that throughout the house they get a slight smell of cigar smoke, Mr. Brown was known to be an avid smoker.

The home has been carefully restored back as close as it can be to the way Molly Brown had it when she was a resident of Denver. The house's atmosphere is full of the rich essence of the past. Sometimes it seems that Mr. and Ms. Brown are more trying to welcome you to their home rather than scare you away, with the way they tend to their guests.

The State Capitol Building. Bet you didn't know that the Colorado State Capitol Building is connected by a series of tunnels. Once being used for moving coal to provide a source of heating now is home to much darker reasons. A dark female figure that is known to wear long turn of the century style dresses is known to haunt the area. She roams from all the buildings and the tunnel network. Very inquisitive, the scary figure has been known to be sited reading over the shoulders of the employees that work there. And you thought politics were the scary ones haha.

Brown Palace Hotel in Denver. This building as well as the capitol is home to a series of cold dark tunnels, this building has also been known to be home of eary sounds of someone coughing. Not to mention many think it is often visited by the ghost that resides in the capitol building.

Maybe she is hoping the news is better at the Hotel. The food certainly is. Bradmar Tudor Manor can be found, in a large and exclusive, well-to-do, sparsely populated area in the countryside, outside the city in Denver, Colorado. The Manor is located at the end of a long road, that is lined with giant cottonwood trees. It is privately owned, so respect the owners privacy.

BUCKHORN EXCHANGE Restaurant. Presently a restaurant, when the fur trade began, This building was one of the first trading posts in the area. It is said that the building is haunted by many of the traders. There have been reports of tables moving suddenly. Also, many have reported hearing voices and footsteps when no one is talking or there.

The only problem with a real haunted house is that the ghost has to be in the mood to scare you. You might be waiting a bit for them to do so. To get scares right away though try and visit one of Denvers Haunted Houses in the area. Many of Denvers best haunted houses are: 13th Door Haunted House, Slaughterhouse Gulch Haunt, Haunted Mansion, 25th Hour, City of the Dead and The Butcher.

With Halloween now upon us, it is your chance to get yourself scared by some real ghosts.

Lisbon Art Museum Shows Love from Gulbenkian

By Luke Pantinger

The Gulbenkian, widely considered Lisbon's best art museum, was named for an Armenian entrepreneur who was successful in the oil markets in Turkey, Iran and other places in the Middle East in the early 1900s. He used his fortune to amass an impressive collection of art in a wide variety of styles. Gulbenkian collected art from the Greek Roman and Egyptian empires, the Asian dynasties and the European art movements throughout history.

Lisbon then became Gulbenkian's central focus and the city profited greatly from this relationship, not in the least through the amazing Museu Calouste Gulbenkian. The quality of the works in this museum more than makes up for its smaller size in area.

The Egyptian collection includes a well preserved bowl that is more than 6000 years old and a rather famous golden mummy mask. There are Greek and Roman examples of statues and coins, rivaling the world renowned Getty museum in this area.

The museum then follows the time line toward more modern works from the 18th century, including works like "Views of Venice" by Francesco Guardi and paintings from Canaletto. Rembrandt and Rubens are also well represented, including the rarely acknowledged Pallas Athene by Rembrant and Rubens' Portrait of Helene Fourment. Monet and Renoir complete the awesome French Impressionism collection.

The sculpture "The Diana" by Houden is on display here in Lisbon, next to the fabulous "Blessings" by famed artist Rodin. There are also pieces of furniture so exquisite and rare they are also considered pieces of art. There are many representative pieces of Spanish and Italian ceramics in the Gulbenkian as well.

Textiles are well represented from the 19th century in the Gulbenkian's modern section. One may also find beautiful examples from the exquisite jewelry created during the Art Nouveau period. The also very famous Lalique jewelry and glass that was given to the Gulbenkian by the artist because of his personal friendship with the man for whom it is named is also on display here. The famous and original "Dragonfly" is here to be seen as well.

The museum is also well festooned by beautiful garden filled with beautiful flora and fauna representative of the natural species in the area. The sea air also usually very well scented here, and for a fantastic view of the whole thing, visit the museum's caf balcony. You will be very glad that you did. It is breathtaking.

Because of the love that Gulbenkian felt for Lisbon, the town was the very lucky recipient of a lasting treasure. The enduring gift of this museum is able to encourages many others to visit and appreciate the city that Gulbenkian loved so well.

4 Simple Ways to Afford Christmas

By Ellie Evergreen

This Christmas many parents are looking for ways to keep their kids happy with toys and special activities. The big challenge this Christmas will be to do it all on a budget. Whether it is living on a reduced income or increasing financial obligations, offering the Christmas of Old might seem like a distant memory. However, it is important not to give up hope. Where there is a will there is a way and there are many options that parents can take advantage of in order to successfully pull off a Christmas that the entire family can be happy with. Here are some common sense tips that will make a good Christmas a more achievable reality.

It seems like common sense but with October already halfway through it is important to stress planning and saving ahead of time. The problem with the age old rule of procrastination is that when the time comes to do what needs to be done, you have much fewer options to work with. This leaves you stressed, frustrated, and feeling like you have no way out. Saving gives you the wiggle room that you need to do your shopping successfully. It is also important to know that even saving the smallest amount can yield big dividends. You may even surprise yourself by even meeting your savings goal in time for the holidays.

Look for different programs that will make paying for gifts easier. Credit especially in this climate should be the absolute last resort if at all. It is not worth the trouble to put yourself in a more difficult financial situations by relying on credit. If you want to stretch out paying for an item or present there are many stores that are adopting interest free payment programs such as layaway. In advance of the holiday shopping season make sure to ask about these programs at local retailers. You can also check online to see if there are online options for layaway as well. As mentioned before planning ahead will give you more options in order to get all the items on your shopping list.

Sales are something everyone is familiar with. However few people actually think of how to best leverage them. First there is a common fact that the initial sale of a season is not going to be your best chance for real savings. It often comes during the end of the season as a clearance sale. If you know that certain items for the holidays will still be outside what you can afford, then get something lesser for the holiday and try purchase items after the holidays. For your younger kids you can just say that Santa had come back because he forgot to deliver all the presents. If you are really insistent on making sure you get everything in time for Christmas Eve then you can do the following. Sign up now for retail store memberships. This often gives you access to preSale sales that will get your first dibs on popular items. Also try shopping online. Shopping online gives you the benefit of avoiding crowds and doing effective comparison shopping.

A great way to make the holidays special for your kids is to help them believe in Santa this year. An effective and simple way to do that is with a personalized letter from Santa. Santa letters can be ordered online and customized with information about your Child only you and them could know. So when they receive it they will really believe they got a reply from Santa Claus.

Taking Shopping Vacations In London

By Karl Fraser

The capital city of England, London, it the number one vacation destination in the British Isles and it has some of the most well known visitor attractions in the world. If you can class people as tourist attractions then the British Royal Family and the Queen must rank first. However an often overlooked attraction is the stunning shopping opportunities in the city.

Along with Paris and New York, London is one of the top 3 shopping cities of the world. Countless numbers of perfumes and cosmetics include the name of these three cities on their packaging such is their importance. All of the large retail companies choose to situate their flagship stores in one of London's shopping districts and many have their headquarters there too.

Whatever you want London will have it. Grouped together in places such as New Bond Street, Knightsbridge, Oxford Street etc., you will find all manner of designer shops, fashion shops and boutiques, department stores, bookshops, music shops, jewellery shops and virtually any type of retail outlet you can imagine.

Oxford Street And Knightsbridge

Oxford Street is the busiest shopping street in the whole of Europe and it is where you will find the famous Selfridges department store. Knightsbridge is well known for being the home of the famous Harrods department store but along with the other stores you will also find the excellent Harvey Nichols.

Old/New Bond Street

Bond Street, in Mayfair, has some of the most expensive shops in London. If you want elegance this is the place to visit it has more shops supplying the Royal Family (Royal Warrant holders) than any other London shopping area. Think Gucci and Armani and you have a rough idea of what to expect.

Covent Garden

Bond Street is great if you are rich and famous but for ordinary folk Covent Garden is the best place to go for fashion clothing. Covent Garden is home to a large number of smaller independent fashion stores and boutiques and this is the place to go if you are in search of a decent pair of shoes.

Other Places In London To Go Shopping

Carnaby Street has a long association with fashion and in recent years the street is once again becoming trendy. If you want an old fashioned British tailor then Savile Row is the most famous place but you will also find tailors in and around Piccadilly. Hatton Garden (near Farringdon) is another place to go for jewelry shops. Shopping for books is best done around the Charing Cross Road although you may find some bookshops in Covent Garden too.

Of course there are many, many more places to go shopping in London but I will have to include these in a future article. If you can not find what you are looking for in the places above take a look around some of the many London markets.

Do You Think You Are Paying Too Much For Your Hotel Room?

By Yasir Yar Khan

Are you paying too much for your hotel room? The short answer is, most likely. If you are like most travelers and only shop at one of the leading online travel sites you are probably paying too much.

Yes, its true that Expedia or Travelocity may offer the best rate for a specific hotel in a specific destination. However, if you do not comparison shop, you wont know if you are getting the best rate possible. Travelocity and Expedia can be very valuable, but if you were buying a car would you only go to one dealership? Let me answer that for you. No, you wouldnt and thats because you know you save money when you create competition. The same holds true for hotel rooms.

Visiting only one travel booking site before buying travel products is typical behavior. Travelers become loyal to that one site or may not know that other options exist. However, recent data released by hotelicopter.com shows that if you book your Thanksgiving holiday hotels at one of those sites, you will pay on average 23% more than if you comparison shop through a hotel search engine.

What does this mean to your wallet? According to hotelicopter.com, if you are planning to spend 4 nights in a NYC hotel this Thanksgiving and only seek rates through one leading online travel booking site, you will pay on average $62 more per night ($248 for a 4 night stay) than what you would find by comparing rates across up to 30 different sites.

Here are some other savings you could experience for Thanksgiving week:

- Los Angeles hotels: save $37 per night (30%)

- San Francisco hotels: save $32 per night (28%)

- New York hotels: save $62 per night (23%)

- Chicago hotels: save $39 per night (22%)

hotelicopter found the same pattern holds true for Christmas break as well. In NYC alone, you could save, on average, a whopping $86 per night (36%!) off the rates found on one leading booking site. Thats almost a $350 savings for a four night stay. Whats the moral to this story? Comparison shopping for hotels can add up to big savings.

Special Suggestion For A Great Christmas With Letters From Santa

By Ellie Evergreen

This Christmas, many children will go to bed with high expectations waiting for Christmas day to arrive and for the magical moment when they see the presents that Santa Clause brought to their house. Make the moment even more special for your younger children with mysterious evidence that Santa actually came by their house! You might wonder how to do it and what does it take to make it as realistic as possible. Here are some great ideas of how to bring the magic of Santa Clause to your children this Christmas.

A good place to start is with the traditional approaches. One of them is to have your children place a glass of milk and some cookies out for Santa Clause in a prominent place near the Christmas tree. Have your kids write a note or create a homemade card to thank Santa for coming and to wish him a Merry Christmas. To add to the fun have them make their own Christmas cookies and customize them with icing or sprinkles. Another great Alternative is to make gingerbread houses. Of course, since you will be the likely person that has to make them "disappear" make them of a moderate size.

Another traditional approach is to have Dad play Santa at night. Let the kids "catch" Santa in the act of delivering the presents to give them a magical Christmas Eve encounter with Old Saint Nick. However, be warned this will only work a couple of times. Also make sure that the kids are old enough to care to be good for Santa so that they will listen to you when you tell them that they can't open their presents until the morning. You can say something like if naughty boys and girls open their gifts before morning the magic of Christmas will disappear along with their presents. Make sure also to have it all planned out with your entry and exit. Try to keep it simple that way there will be no opportunity to get caught.

If you live in home that doesn't have a chimney such as an apartment you can purchase a "magic" key this is an interesting concept because it helps you explain to your kids why Santa can still deliver presents if there isn't a chimney for him to slide down. You can that the key is special and that when he uses his Christmas magic the key unlocks the door and allows him to slip in with the presents and slip out when he is done.

Add more excitement with an authentic letter from Santa. Some websites have a service where they will make a letter from the Jolly old Elf himself specially addressed to your Child. You can customize them for any occasion. It can be a letter for a child going through a tough time or one experiencing their first Christmas. You can have them framed as special mementos of this time of year that will last for years to come.

Another great option is a call from Santa. You can do it yourself or use a service but it will help give you cover if you are right there with your kids when He comes calling to wish your kids a merry Christmas. Of course when doing anything extra like this, be careful of your children's feelings.

It is up to you to figure out which one has the best deal for you and your budget. Keep in mind, vacation rentals tend to be offered at a lower price. This is definitely something that you should consider.

One of your options when it comes to Santa Barbara spa resorts is the Fess Parker's Doubletree Hotel Resort - notably one of the most expensive and luxurious hotels in town. Situated on one of the most striking coastlines in Southern California with 24 acres of mission-style resort, you are sure to have lots to do. No matter if you want to visit the hotel for business or leisure travel, you will find it very pleasurable and entertaining for you and your family or colleague. But just remember, it comes with a high price tag, and you won't feel like you are right at home like you will with a luxury vacation rental.

Make sure that you take the time to compare a Santa Barbara spa hotel and a Santa Barbara vacation rental. These two will never be one in the same. In fact these days most people actually prefer the homey feeling of a luxury vacation rental.

Hawaii for the Gay Traveler

By Howie Holben

Hawaii provides a pristine paradise that attracts travelers from across the globe to its many-colored picturesque beaches. Because of a welcoming, warm population and a blend of Polynesian, Asian and white European cultures, this island paradise has long been a popular travel destination for both straight and gay vacations. The LGBT community in Hawaii is relatively low-key and not entirely outwardly visible, but a gay travel participant will find a welcoming level of acceptance that has come about, in part, from many generations of varied cultures living together with no specific dominant religious or cultural influence as an overriding factor.

Oahu is home to the state capitol, Honolulu, the popular tourist destination, Waikiki, and 70% of Hawaiis population. If you plan to visit Oahu on your gay holidays, you will not want to miss La Cucaracha, an LGBT-friendly Mexican caf with authentic Mexican cuisine, margaritas and great music, or the LGBT novelty, book and clothing store, 80% Straight Inc., located in the Waikiki Grand. There are also a few bars and clubs for those interested in the scene, including Hulas Bar & Lei Stand, Fusion Waikiki, In-Between and Angles Waikiki. If heading to the beach is more your style, Queens Surf and the area below the lighthouse at Diamond Head are the two spots where the community can be found any day of the year.

Those who make their gay tour on Maui will not find much of a scene other than an area of Little Beach in Makena, but watching the sunrise from the top of Mount Haleakala, exploring waterfalls and shopping in quaint villages make Maui an enticing gay travel retreats spot in its own right. If you wish to explore what most consider the most scenic and tropical island in the chain, Kauai is a must-see stop. With a few LGBT-friendly places, including a clothing optional bed and breakfast and an LGBT-owned Japanese-style villa with a clothing optional lagoon pool, Kauai is the island for exploring waterfalls, canyons and imposing cliffs.

The Big Island also has a number of friendly lodging options, one LGBT bar and several friendly restaurants and businesses. Gay vacations on the Big Island can include exploring an active volcano, walking on black sand beaches, trekking through a rain forest or standing in awe of the snow on Mauna Kea.

There are many reasons to travel to Hawaii, which is the most remote island chain in the world and a must-see paradise. In a single trip to the islands you can scuba dive or snorkel among coral reefs, explore a volcano, visit a pineapple farm, ride horses on black sand beaches, learn the hula and attend an authentic luau. To make sure you do not miss anything that Hawaii has to offer, use a gay holidays tour, or enlist the assistance of a travel agency well-versed in planning gay tours.

Halloween Arts and Crafts

By Russ D. Edwards

If you are like me and my friends, we like celebrating and decorating for Halloween which is why Halloween humanities and crafts projects are especially near to our hearts. We like to come up with new and scary ideas to transform our houses into frightening haunted houses with bats, spooks, cobwebs, and magicians adorning both the inside and the outside of the house. Halloween humanities and crafts projects provide wonderful opportunities for you to interact with your youngsters and teach them a way to make something out of practically nothing. Here are a couple of our favorite projects :

If you have bushes in front of your home, you simply might become the talk about the area with this Halloween arts and crafts project we found. Take an ordinary white bed sheet ( the size will depend on the scale of your bushes ). Fold the sheet in half and place newspaper in between the fold. You may either use an enduring black wizardry marker or black fabric paint to draw a ghost face on the sheet. Your spook can be scary or funny or you may have a pair of each depending on how many bushes you have! Then drape the sheet over the bush and secure it in the back with clothespins so that it is tight round the bush.

I really love this next Halloween humanities and crafts project because you can use these to decorate outside. You'll need a plain white lid ( like from a margarine container, 3 black construction paper circles for eyes and a mouth, 2 white plastic grocery sacks or trash bags, 2 white pipe cleaners, glue, scissors, tape, black yarn, and a hole punch.

Start by gluing eyes and mouth on the front of the lid. If the lid isn't utterly white, you can paint it so that it is. If you're using grocery sacks, cut off the handles and any writing. Lay them on a leveled surface and use scissors to shred two in. strips up from the bottom leaving at least a 1 in. area intact next to the seam. Attach a pip cleaner stem into the seam. Turn the lid over. Bend and insert the pipe cleaner/seam into the ridge round the bottom 1/2 the lid and tape to secure into place. Repeat this with a second sack and pipe cleaner inserting the ridge around the higher half the lid. Punch a hold through the top of the lid and thread a length of yarn through the hole to hang. You may prefer to have a loop at the end of a foot and a half so your kids can hang onto them and run making it look as if they are being chased by a ghost! You may also hang from trees so they blow in the breeze!

These are only a few of the Halloween arts and crafts projects my buddies and I really like to make. You will find lots more fun Halloween arts and crafts on the web. Above all, when you are making Halloween arts and crafts, just be creative, resourceful, and have fun!

Accessible Fun in a Puerto Rico Vacation

By Rafael Wallace

A Puerto Rico vacation is one of the easiest to plan. This is true at least for American citizens. Because Puerto Rico is an American territory, there are fewer hassles when it comes to passports, currency conversion, language and looking for direct flights to the island paradise.

The accessibility of the place is definitely not the only advantage. Its real attraction is its rich and varied options when it comes to tourist diversions. Puerto Rico is simply the top destination for great accessible fun all year round.

What vacationers go crazy about this place is the beaches. If you have never set foot in the tropics before, the yearning for endless sand and constant sun is all too understandable. You can easily get your fill at resorts like Isla Verde and Luquillo which are conveniently near San Juan. If what you really want is unspoiled beauty though, you should head on over to the territorys best kept remote paradise retreats.

One popular remote spots which is a favorite among vacationers is Vieques. This is an island accessible from the eastern side of Puerto Rico. Unlike beaches on the mainland, the 40 beaches here are less populated and are more ideal for genuine R and R. Aside from its beaches, tourists can also take a dive at one of its three bioluminescent bays where everything the water touches, including people glow.

Your Puerto Rico vacation can also be spent in Culebra. Compared to Vieques, this is an even smaller and more remote looking destination. Although tourists have already discovered its quiet, clear beauty, it is still far from being a commercially exploited site.

In Puerto Rico, there are varied activities to enjoy. Once you have burned your skin to a crisp, you can drown your worries away in more conventional ways. There are always casino, tennis, shopping, dining and golf in San Juan to while away your time. You might also prefer to just take out all the stops and go all out on long nights of dancing and dining in Puerto Ricos vibrant night circuit of bars, clubs and cafes.

Morning fun can also take a totally different turn. Instead of basking all day on fine sand, you can always take a detour and go on educational nature trips instead. A must see is El Yungue. Although the trip from San Juan can take all day, the effort and time spent are all worth it. This is the only tropical rainforest in American territory. Take a hike through its trails under cool canopies and marvel at the unmatched beauty of creation.

Rarely do you find tourists disappointed in their Puerto Rico vacation. It truly is a paradise that is amazingly accessible. The best part is that from the moment you plan your trip to the moment you get there, there are less travel hassles and concerns to contend with. If you want an even more hassle free experience though, consider looking for the right vacation packages. With a great package deal for Puerto Rico, you get to enjoy what you want and where you want at a price that is just right for you.

Holidays In The Maldives - Bandos Island

By Andrea Gail

Bandos island resort had refurbishment during 2005 which saw it not only receive a stylish face lift but also extend its exiting facilities and add extra accommodation.

The new look to Bandos is a nice contemporary casual feel yet still retaining its Maldivian style and charm. Some of the accommodation has interconnecting doors for large families who need to spread out over several rooms.

There are a nice range of restaurants here that serve a range of quality dishes. The main bar and coffee shop are near the water, and the bar is a great place to hang out until the early hours of the morning.

Since the resort is popular with families, children who are not quite old enough to take part in some of the older games and activities will probably find other children their age to play with. Visitors with young children need to be aware that the lagoon tends to deepen quite quickly so be careful when allowing you kids in or near the lagoon.

There are 84 standard rooms which look out over the beach and another 19 that are slightly set back. In addition there are 48 Junior suites and 48 circular-shaped Beach villas.

Bandos is without doubt one of the focal points of diving in the Maldives, not least since it is one of the few resorts to actually have a decompression chamber. The dive center here is both a Platinum Facility of the International Association of Nitrox and Technical Divers and a PADI Gold Palm Resort.

You can expect a special event if you plan to get married on Bandos, the ceremony is held on the beach of one of the uninhabited islands in the atoll ? Kuda Bandos ? and is followed by a private cruise for the newlyweds on a Dhoni (Maldivian boat).

Lanzarote: the Best of the Canary Islands

By Leslie McFadden

Lanzarote is the most northerly of the Canary Islands, and has successfully built huge loyalty amongst the visitors that go there. Many go back year after year with their children, and their children's children. We know people who have been regularly visiting Lanzarote for over 40 years. No wonder there is a saying here on Lanzarote: Visit Lanzarote once, and love it forever.

But what is about Lanzarote that excites such a sense of loyalty? The weather helps of course, for here is a place where the daytime temperatures rarely drop below 20 Celsius, and where cooling Atlantic breezes keep the air comfortable, even in the hottest months when the temperature gauge can hit 32 Celsius plus.

Perhaps it is the breathtaking scenery, which is so spectacular that Lanzarote has often been used as a film location. The most recent of these was Pedro Almodovars Las Abrozas Rotos (The Broken Embraces) in 2008, which starred Penelope Cruz. Although the filmmaking tradition goes back to the late 1960s, when the rural volcanic terrain of Lanzarote was chosen for the film One Million Years BC, starring Raquel Welch. The combination of high volcanic mountain peaks, the dramatic and lonely timelessness of the malpais (vast fields of eroding volcanic rocks and lava that cover large areas of the island), and beautiful views of the surrounding Atlantic Ocean, is truly awe-inspiring.

Family holidays are nothing without beaches, of course, and Lanzarote has great beaches in abundance. It is true that some of these are man-made, but they are pretty convincing nonetheless. But the natural beaches of Lanzarote offer a wonderful range of seaside experiences " there are black beaches, golden beaches, beaches with high surf, and beaches with dramatic cliffside and mountain backdrops. There are lagoons formed from the rivers of volcanic lava that once flowed steaming hot and hissing into the sea; these lagoons quickly warm under the hot sun, and offer very therapeutic and safe bathing.

Water sports are very popular on Lanzarote. There are scuba diving activities, good for all levels from beginner to expert. Windsurfing is extremely popular, especially around Costa Teguise, and Famara to the North of the island offers seasoned surfers the chance to tackle some serious waves. For those who want to be less active, there are plenty of boats trips available, some with opportunities to fish, and others with the chance to swim or snorkel.

Accommodation on Lanzarote can be chosen from apartments, villas with or without private pools, and hotels. There are plenty of specialist websites offering a wide range of Lanzarote accommodation of all types.

Restaurants on Lanzarote are similarly varied, and most of the towns and resorts offer a choice of Canarian (highly recommended!), Spanish/tapas, Italian, Chinese and Indian food, as well as the full English breakfast experience if you cant do without it. Every visitor should try at least one of these local specialities: Canarian Potatoes (with mojo sauces), Pimiento de Padron (Padron peppers " watch out for the hot ones!), gofio, and (to be honest, any) locally caught fish that is for sale.

So thats a very quick summary of some of the reasons to choose Lanzarote for your next holiday, and it really is just a flavour. To do this magical island justice would fill many more articles. In the meantime, you can find out more at the All Things Lanzarote website which has lots more information about places and facilities on the island.
