Going To Spain : Visit Retiro Park

By Frank Terry

Retiro Park (or Parque del Buen Retiro) in Madrid is is regarded as one of Madrid's premier attractions. It boasts miles of explorable walkways and paths, a serene lake, and lots of magnificent monuments and sculptures; numerous festivals and events take place there every year.

Following its opening in the year 1868 it has housed royalty in gorgeous palaces as well as been the site for various important buildings throughout history. It's a shame that some of those buildings are no longer standing because of the Napoleonic wars, regardless the remaining ones are well worth the visit.

Popular sites within the park include the Palacio de Cristal, a glass structure originally used to house exotic plants, and the Palacio de Velzquez, a former industrial exhibition house now mainly used to display art. If you enjoy art, the Casn holds another wonderful collection of paintings dating back to the nineteenth century, but do not forget to stop by the Ejrcito, a historically rich museum weaving tales of Spain's military history.

There are many fantastic places to explore, but the heart of the park lies within Estanque del Retiro, the large lake at the northern entrance. Not surprisingly summer is one of the more popular times for the park when entire families can be found taking in the beautiful surroundings along the perimeter of the lake. For those wishing for a little activity, you can rent a boat from one of the local vendors there and row around it.

Another beautiful feature of the park is the Rosaleda rose garden, enjoyed by both tourists and natives, as well as the nearby Cecilia Rodriguez gardens and Serrano Street's outstanding restaurants.

Making your way through the park, be sure to stop in at one of the many cafes and enjoy a taste of Spanish food at its best. It's also a place of entertainment and you'll likely see street musicians and dancers, jugglers and fortune tellers alongside the ordinary citizens who are simply out for a walk.

Air Travel - Is Air Travel The Best Way To Get You To Your Destination?

By Carol Bell

Are you curious about taking a vacation? If you are you could be needed to fly. There are a lot of favoured holiday destinations, for example Hawaii, Europe, and the Caribbean, that can't be reached any alternative way. With that under consideration, if you're looking to holiday inside in the United States you could have options. For that reason, you may need to first decide if travelling by air plane is truly your kind of thing.

When it comes to determining if air travel is really right for you, for your next trip, you will first want to look at your destination. Just because you do not have any oceans to cross, it does not mean that you dont need to fly. For example, if you are looking to travel from New York to California, it may be within your best interest to fly. This is particularly true if you are limited on the amount of vacation time that you have available from your work.

Your budget is another factor that you will want to take into consideration, when trying to determine if air travel is right for you. For example, there are many other cheaper alternatives for those who must travel a short to medium distance. For example, if you will be travelling from Texas to Nevada, you may be able to buy tickets for a bus or train. There are many different options when you look for them. For many individuals, riding a bus or a train is a much more affordable option. Perhaps, the only downside to this approach is the time that you will spend on the road. For many, it would just be convenient to drive their own car.

Speaking of driving your own car, if you are looking to avoid flying, you will want to examine your alternative option of driving yourself. As previously stated, keep your location and distance in mind. Also, it is important to take the cost of your trip into consideration. Many of us automatically think of gasoline and the cost of it, but it is also important to take the cost of vehicle wear and tear into consideration. For that reason, many end up renting a car for their trip. However, it is important to return back to travelling by air. For long distance trips, the cost of renting a car can be the same, if not more than hopping on a flight that only lasts a few hours

What does all of this mean for you? It does mean that you will likely be better off travelling by air plane if you are looking to travel in the United States. With that said, there are some exceptions to this rule. For example, you should never fly if you can drive to your destination in an hour or two, as doing so can be considered a waste of money. Also, if you are a motor home owner or if you can find an affordable rental nearby, you may want to drive to your destination instead, as doing so can sometimes be better than flying.

For the main part, the sole people who should have difficulty flying are people who be afflicted by claustrophobia or a fear of flying, even flying is safe. People with other incapacities, including the requirement of an oxygen tank or those that are wheel chair bound, can still fly to their destination, as many airlines will go out of the way to provide required accommodations and services.

The World's Worst Christmas Gifts

By Gina Nakamura

Every year, magazines, newspapers and television shows run a feature on this year's hottest gifts for Christmas. Almost inevitably, by the time the next year has rolled around, everyone has forgotten what the hot gifts were for last year.

What people never forget, however, is the awful presents they sometimes get at Christmas. These remain, lurking, in the recesses of your mind and occasionally leap out at you unbidden.

So, I did a highly researched, extensive and scientific survey to find out which were the five worst Christmas gifts ever. Well, I asked a few friends and family anyway. It turns out that these are the very worst gifts:

1) Socks. I've no idea what possesses normally sane, rational people to buy socks at Christmas. But they do. If you are one of these people, think for a moment. Everyone has socks. They don't need more. Get something else.

2) Secondhand Clothes. To be honest, I couldn't care less that it's vintage Givenchy. It's not new. So that means it's either something you don't really want or something you got cheap at Oxfam. Either way, I don't want it.

3) Household Cleaning Items. You know, vacuum cleaners, washing machines. That kind of thing. Your wife or other half won't be pleased with a vacuum cleaner as a gift. And you will end up separated or divorced. Get something that doesn't remind her of housework.

4) 12 Month Gym Membership. What does getting someone membership of a gym say to them. That's right. It says they're fat and need to lose weight. Is that the message you want to be giving a loved one this Christmas. No? Then don't get them membership to a gym.

5) Mascara and Makeup. This is another mistake made by men. It's seemed so simple in the shop, didn't it. Just buy her some mascara, a bit of eyeliner and a lipstick. But it all went wrong. Wrong shade, wrong brand; right shade, wrong brand; right brand, wrong shade. No matter how hard men try, they always mess up buying makeup. Don't let it happen to you.

Beyond even the top five worst gifts, I did learn that one female friend of mine was bought facial hair lightening creme by her now ex boyfriend. I also found out a vegetarian friend received a '50 Interesting Things To Do With Chicken' cookery book; while a male friend got nose hair trimmers.

So, this year, when you finally get your gifts, don't be disappointed that you didn't get exactly what you wanted; be thankful that you didn't get anything listed in this article.

Holiday Season Advice for Keeping Everyone Healthy

By Edie Mindell

Merry Christmas and happy first Christmas with a baby or toddler! Children add their own magic to the already intoxicating feelings of the holiday season. As new parents you are trying to create your own family traditions and spoil your toddler just a little bit.

Yet you are not the only persons concerned with your child's Christmas celebrations. Aunts, uncles, friends, cousins and especially Grandparents will all feel a special desire to be close to your baby at this time of the year. Each person will likely have their own ideas of how the children should be incorporated into the celebration and will want to give your baby holiday blessings and toys!

Holiday and Flu season

Perhaps it is not the first thing that comes to mind when celebrating Christmas with your baby and extended family, but flu season does need to be accounted for. To this end before carting your child to endless dinners and parties it is a good idea to plan a flu avoidance strategy.

Call the host and ask about the health of their family. This is a very understandable question and will not offend. When taking your baby to parties have a supply of hand sanitizer at the ready so that would be admirers don't have to be sent to the bathroom to wash their hands. Wearing your baby in a sling will reduce the requests to hold your child. This keeps baby close and keeps exposure to germs to a minimum.

Holiday Shopping with baby

The crowds, lines and stiff competition involved in holiday shopping is enough to daunt even the most stout hearted, but is especially tricky with your new precious cargo in tow. To this end a little preparation goes a long way. Feed your baby immediately before leaving the house, or even in the car in the parking lot. This reduces the need to feed in public, and may even put your child into a milk coma, meaning she will sleep blissfully for the duration of the shopping trip.

The diaper bag is an invaluable tool. Stock the diaper bag with several diapers, wipes, a bottle, two or three burp clothes, an extra binky, an extra blanket and an extra outfit for the baby as well as a shirt for you. Many a mom has learned the hard way that any of these items might become necessary during an outing.

Remember babies draw a crowd; even strangers will want a peep. Be gracious, but firm. This is your child and you don't have to allow any stranger to look at or touch or kiss your baby. Keep the hand sanitizer at the ready. Put your baby in a sling that hides his or her face or in a stroller with the shades drawn. This sends the signal that baby is not to be disturbed without you having to play the bad guy.

Discover the 10 Reasons Why Sitka is Alaska's Premier Fishing and Tourist Destination

By Brad Richards

Many fishing areas are available in the state of Alaska. With so many options, making a choice can be tough. One excellent place to check out is Sitka. This area is considered to be one of the top fishing and tourist destinations in the entire area. The following are several great reasons for taking your next fishing trip in Alaska at Sitka.

Catch Fish Quickly - Catching fish quickly is a great reason to visit Sitka. This is the area that has the lowest rod hours per fish in Alaska, which is why it is one of the top fishing areas to visit. If you want to ensure you get a chance to catch a lot of fish on your vacation, then Sitka is an excellent destination to check out.

Old Russian Capital - When Alaska was owned by the Russians, it was Sitka that was then the capital city. This is another reason it is a top tourist destination and not only just a great place to fish. Sure, you will have a wonderful time enjoying the fishing, but there are also many great sites from history that you can check out while you are in Sitka, which will add even more to your trip.

Mild Currents and Tides - The mild currents and tides make it a great fishing spot in Alaska. Since they are so mild, you can get bottom fish no matter what time of day it happens to be. In many other Alaska fishing spots, you can only fish during certain parts of the day

Halibut and Salmon - If you enjoy fishing for both halibut and salmon, than Sitka is the place to be. You can fish for both of these fish all in the very same day. This doesn't happen in most other fishing areas around the state, so it's definitely one of the reasons to choose Sitka if you enjoy fishing for these kinds of fish.

Ocean Bright Salmon - You'll also get the opportunity to fish and catch the ocean bright salmon in the area. Since Sitka is located on the outer coast instead of on inside waters, the salmon are not dark because they are going to spawn soon. You get the bright salmon that you really like.

Bait Fish Pushed In and Around Sitka Sound - Because of the way that Sitka is located, the currents push in the bait fish in to the area. This leads to a lot of other fish coming to the area to feed on the bait fish, making it a wonderful area for fishing.

Plenty of Wildlife - Sure, you will see a whole lot of fish, but that is not the only wildlife in the area that you can enjoy. Many types of wildlife are around that you'll get to see. A few of the wildlife you'll lay eyes on at Sitka include humpback whales, sea otters, albatross, eagles, porpoises, puffins, and a whole lot more.

The Sport Fishery is New and Un-crowded - The sport fishery in Sitka is fairly new. This means that it is not very crowded and there are plenty of fish for everyone to enjoy a great time fishing.

Great Fishing in Storms and Nice Days - Whether the weather is beautiful or it's a stormy day, you can still enjoy great fishing in Sitka. If it is storming, the inside waters are still calm enough for fishing. Then on days that are nice, you can enjoy fishing on the outside waters too.

Excellent King Salmon Fishing All Summer - Another reasons that Sitka is a premier fishing spot as well as a great tourist destination is that it offers excellent king salmon fishing all summer long. They come to the outer coast to feed, which means that they are available more often for those fishing in the area. At other places people often fish, there is only a certain period of time for catching these fish because their only around for spawning.

Portland Galore

By James Pynn

What can you say about Portland that countless hipsters haven't already said? It's quaint. It's small, yet roomy -- all the amenities of a big city nestled in a small town frame. It's prosperous, relatively mild weather-wise, and lacks the ominous atmosphere of Seattle to the north. It's hipster heaven and then some.

Craftily cut asunder by both the Willamette and Columbia rivers, Portland has consistently been voted one of the greenest cities in the United States by the Environmental News and Commentary. This surprising, given the fact it is home to approximately two million residents, making it the 23rd most populous metropolitan area in the United States. Its a shining example of how people, planning and the environment can all get along.

Portland, as it so happens, is home to some of the most influential and remarkable manufacturers in the nation, Portland boasts such stellar company as Intel, Adidas, Columbia Sportswear, and Nike. Although these purveyors of modern American comfort and expediency abound, Portland has historically been known as a wheat town.

Far from a mere haven for the perpetually cool and fashionably disinterested, Portland has historically been one of the largest shippers of wheat in the United States. Surprising, but true. Wheat. And Portland. Indeed, it is the second largest wheat port in the world. The port handles well over 13 million tons of cargo a year. Consequently, it is home to the largest dry dock in the nation and is considered the third largest port in America.

Despite all the wheat, hipsters and green planning, Portland is perhaps best know, culturally at least, as the home of the NBA franchise, the Portland Trail Blazers. Though the team has only ever won one championship in its forty-year history, it has placed the City of Roses on the national map. Though sports are popular in Portland, the NBA is the only major sports franchise to call the city home. The city is an artistic and cultural pulse point, offering tourists a wealth of museums, galleries, and live venues to enjoy. Subsequently, the Portland, Oregon hotels available to visitors and tourists alike are as vast as they are accommodating.

Staying In Sac

By James Pynn

It should come as no surprise that the Golden State is shot-through with big cities. From San Francisco to Los Angeles to Newport Beach and back up the coast again, there are no shortages of big cities to choose from. To be sure, smaller college towns like Berkeley, Davis, and Irvine also get folded into the Golden State batter. With all of these options, what makes Sacramento the capitol?

Christened by the stalwart Gabriel Moraga, Sacramento was little more than a trading post when John Sutter arrived in 1839 from Switzerland. Within ten years he and his heirs would guide the transformation of the trading post into a military barracks for the U.S. Army and eventually into an incorporated city. Sacramento is the oldest incorporated city in the state, having been invested in 1850. This does not mean it is the oldest, however, as that distinction belongs to Monterey.

With the defeat of the Mexican army in 1848, the capital of California was moved from Monterey. The first city to be designated the new capitol was San Jose. When the state legislature met there in 1850, it was argued the capitol should be moved further inland to avoid retribution either from Mexico or the Spanish Empire.

Two years earlier, James Marshall famously discovered gold in the American River in Coloma, about 50 miles away from Sacramento. In the years that followed, Sacramento became the inheritor of the California Gold Rush. The city flooded with new residents and economic prosperity. As evidence of Sacramentos growing importance, the Transcontinental Railroad terminated in the city, solidifying it stature as the gateway city to California.

The capitol was moved, finally, to Sacramento in 1854. Taking advantage of the citys tremendous infrastructure and rail access, the Constitutional Convention named Sacramento the permanent capitol of California in 1879. Inspired by the nations capitol, the California State Capitol was not actually completed until 1874, where it stands to this day in tribute to the vision and foresight of John Sutter.

Shoppers Are Amazed By Excellent Thangkas In Beijing

By Andy Lao

Thangkas are a unique, popular Tibetan art form that originated in the Songtsan Gampo era of Tibet. Initially a type of painting designed based on the Nepalese style, it later developed into a mesmerizing, full-fledged art form with its unique beauty and function. In its last stage of development during the 18th century, it was heavily influenced by the elements of traditional Chinese paintings. To pay tribute to their gods, Tibetan monks and commoners alike carry a thangka with them as they travel from place to place. When in Beijing, remember that some local shops here have exquisite thangkas for shoppers and tourists like you in Beijing.

Like a scroll painting, thangkas can be easily stored and moved around. For this reason, traveling monks in Tibet prefer to carry them instead of heavy, bulky statues. Because they can be put on a wall, Tibetans also like to use them at home for worship and meditation.

In many ways, thangkas are like Buddhist statues. Both of them are used as a medium through which people pay tribute to their gods, say prayers, and make requests. But the difference is also obvious: whereas a Buddhist statue only represents a certain deity in Buddhism, a thangka shows the deity and depicts his/her life stories, important events, and the Buddhist teachings associated with the deity. Such depiction is aimed to educate, enlighten, and enhance the contemplative experience of the Buddhists who study them.

On a thangka, no detail is too small to ignore. Everything, like the color, the clothes, and the positions or postures of the people, contains bits of information that contribute to the profound symbolism of the overall image. For a Buddhist, the teachings of Buddhism can be learned by memorizing these details and imaging the image in their minds.

When used by monks traveling from place to place, thangkas can serve as an excellent educational tool. Tibetan monks who carry thangkas have been traveling to remote regions and teaching Buddhism for hundreds of years. As a tradition, monks living in monasteries display their precious thangkas to the public during ceremonies or festivals.

Most thangkas are painted by hand on a cotton canvas or silk, but a few of them are embroidered or made of precious materials like pearls and gold. Making a thangka is usually an extremely complex process that employs a variety of techniques and paints. Paint made of natural minerals is often used, giving the pictures a bright and unique color that can last hundreds of years. Such paintings require a mastery of different drawing skills and a deep understanding of Buddhism and Tibetan culture. Since every detail on a thangka contributes to the overall symbolism through subtle hints, only a properly trained artist can make a thangka.

Depending on the method of production and materials used, thangkas can be grouped into two main categories: "Bris-Tang" and "Go-Tang."

"Bris-Tang": "Bris-Tang" refers to thangkas that are painted. There are five specific types in this category: Multi-Colored, Gold Background, Vermilion Background, Black Background, and Block Printing "Bris-Tang."

"Go-Tang": "Go-Tang" thangkas are thangkas that are embroidered or made of silk. There are also five specific types in this category: Embroidery, Applique, Glued Applique, Hand-Woven, and Block Printing "Go-Tang."

All thangkas are made to conform to a strict standard concerning the use of colors. Different colors are used to show different themes or different characters. Red is the main color for thangkas that depict the life stories of the Buddha. Black is the main color for thangkas depicting gods who fight against evils. Blue is used to represent joy. Green is used to represent activity. And white is the symbol for peace and compassion.

In the amazing local shops of Beijing, there are authentic thangkas made by master painters from Tibet. When you are in the city, be sure to check out these exquisite products. If you are not familiar with the local business, it's best to find a tour guide in Beijing to help you shop.

Christmas Gifts That Make Your Gift a Special One

By Edie Mindell

As the weather turns chilly and before the haunting sounds of Halloween parties and trick or treaters even begin to add their sound to the night, the thoughts of parents and grandparent are busily preparing for another holiday whose advent is announced in the happy haunts of Halloween.

Each year the love parents have for their children is shown in holiday outings, dozens of Christmas cookies, extra bedtime stories, an abundance of squeezes all given in anticipation of the culmination of the family gathering together on Christmas Day to celebrate. Central to these family celebrations is often a gift exchange.

This gift exchange and preparing for it captures the thoughts of adults months before the holiday arrives. What can be done to make this year's Christmas special and meaningful for my child? The gifts often represent so much more than a mere toy: the gift itself represents the symbols of the season and the love, unity and warmth of family.

Parents of young children, as well as new grandparents, often fret about how to make the Christmas gift more than just another gift. One simple way is to make this year's gift as unique as the child who receives it. A customized gift will live in memory for years to come. Even babies who will have no recollection of the year they were given this gift will treasure their customized jammies as they grow and realize the significance of the gift.

Customized does not necessarily mean expensive. With a little know how you can even customize the gift yourself, but the extra chore during the busy holiday season may not be necessary. There are many internet sites that offer customization of their products for as reasonable a price as free! Almost any toy can be customized. You can add your child's name to a step stool, clothing or blankets of almost any kind, dolls can be customized with names and certificates documenting your child as their parent, pencils, stuffed toys, cars and trucks can all be customized with names or initials.

Toddlers especially like to see their name on things. They may not be able to read, but will recognize the shapes of the letters belonging to their own name. It is a thrill for them to see themselves in print.

Other custom gifts include storybooks that feature your child as a character in the story. These custom books are as simple as adding your child's name or as elaborate as actually using photos of your child in the illustrations as well as their name in the story.

Another popular custom gift for toddlers is a CD of music that has their name in the songs. Toddlers are active and love to dance and sing to most any kind of music. Imagine how pleased and special they will feel when they hear their own name in the songs!

It is not just a popular tourist destination but it also has a robust economy which includes a number of large service sector, quality education, high end technology, health care, finance, manufacturing, and agriculture.

Visiting a place as wonderful as Santa Barbara would entail a lot of planning and I mean planning a head of time. Since it is a tourist destination, it is usually a jam packed crowd on weekends or during holidays. So before you spoil your vacation by just searching for hotels in the area, it would be best to book a hotel before hand. Or better yet, check into the vacation rental options, which will provide you with a richer experience.

Santa Barbara has many different hotels and resorts to choose from, and the accommodation will all depend on your choice. Finding a good Santa Barbara hotel and resort will be the first thing you must decide on when travelling to Santa Barbara. If you are on a tight budget you can choose between the different discounted and cheap hotels in the area. Don't think that Santa Barbara hotels and resorts cannot offer you a hotel within your budget, because it definitely can. Again, consider looking at the vacation rentals in town as well, as they will provide you with a more intimate, and often times more affordable vacation stay.

Those who do not have a lot of money to spend do not want to book a resort. This is a very expensive way to stay but the family hotels might not be as fun for you either. If that is the case choose a middle point and go for a vacation rental. You will have private service as well as features such as full kitchens. You do not have to worry about paying for extras, because you will have everything that you need.

If you are ready to splurge for this vacation, then why don't you try the number of luxurious hotels, you can choose between staying in the luxury of a four star or a top five star hotel. You have a choice of the different hotels which can be found within Santa Barbara and where you have access to the entire town. However, in our opinion, if you have that kind of money to spend, why not look at some of the luxury vacation rentals in town? There are some really beautiful beach front rentals that will provide an unforgettable vacation experience.

Santa Barbara hotels and resorts offer good service and amenities and most of them are located a block or two away from down town area of Santa Barbara. Aside from the hotel accommodation which they provide explicitly, some might also have mouth watering restaurants under their roofs.

Make sure that you see what other dining options this great town has to offer. Once you get settled in your hotel room or vacation rental you can easily start to explore. You might not even need a car to get around. Start planning your next trip to Santa Barbara!

Funny Halloween Costumes That Are Sure To Send You To The Winning Stage

By Susan West

Halloween is one time of the year we get to be something different. Forget the norm and try something bizarre, terrifying, or exotic! This is the one holiday that should be nothing but pure fun! Children and adults alike prepare for grotesque quantities of goodies, Halloween costumes, and clever tricks. Only a single day long, it can be easy to put off your holiday planning until the last minute. This can cause major problems when you run to the store, searching picked over Halloween costumes. Remember, if you choose the wrong Halloween costume, you may find your dark holiday turns into a terrifying event.http://www.costumecauldron.com/Kids-Angel-Fairy-Wings-Costumes.html

Be frightening or hilariously funny, on this day anything goes. Make the most out of this time of the year by getting into all the Halloween costumes and choosing one you'll like wearing as well. Take account of your own personal tastes and then go for it. Will you be a rock star like Mick Jagger; or possibly a classic character like Wonder Woman. This is the one day to take off those conservative clothes and step outside of you into the costume filled world of Halloween.

Before you say yes to any particular costume, be sure it will work for where you're going. Every costume doesn't work for every place. Something too skimpy might concern your in-laws, while something too scary might scare the kids. Choose accordingly even though you want something on that you'll like as well.

Halloween costumes don't have to show a lot of skin to be revealing either. If there is something that you really want to wear that you don't think will be inappropriate consider adding something to make it appear less so. This way you can have the best of both worlds. Halloween is for fun, but you still want to have something that works for where you are.

With some Halloween costumes, it is not so much about what it reveals than what it says. If your desired look makes an off-color statement, you may want to reconsider wearing it to the Halloween party with your future in-laws . Remember, even a party with your friends and peers may include children or older guests who find certain statements offensive. There is a time and a place, so be respectful to your host or hostesses' other guests.

Buying (or making) something that will be able to stand up to the task of being worn under various conditions will be your first job. You don't want to have too many pieces that won't stay in place; there should be nothing sliding off of you every ten seconds. Halloween costumes should be exciting and attract attention, but they must also be wearable.

When it comes to Halloween costumes, they need to be durable. The last thing you want is to end up frustrated because of your costume selection. You want all head pieces and masks to stay where they belong. Do what you can to ensure that you don't regret your selection.

A clever Halloween costume is going to be a wonderful conversation starter. Putting in a little time can make all the difference. There are certain outfits we see year after year. Sure, the occasional variation may make them stand out, but who do you really remember from last year's party? The guest who came in the watered down French Maid costume, or the one who dressed as Cher, full wig, makeup, microphone, the works, and was a guy! http://www.costumecauldron.com/Kids-Biblical-Jesus-Nun-Costumes.html

Halloween is supposed to be a fun time, where you can cut loose and dress in any Halloween costumes you want! So take full advantage of this once a year opportunity. Adding a little thought and effort to your Halloween costumes can transform you from the mundane into the life of the party! Poor planning could cause you to wind up in a very awkward social situation. Edited by Glinda Zuladra

Must See Sights On Sofia City Breaks

By Dave Smithers

Sofia, Bulgaria is an ancient and beautiful city, the perfect place to plan Sofia city breaks. With a population of 1. 14 million souls, this marvelous city ranks 12th among the great urban capitals of Europe. The primitive beginnings of Sofa go back a mere 7, 000 years according to archaeologists who have unearthed ancient cultures. If you're planning a whirlwind tour of this city nestled between the mountains, here are several sights you won't want to miss.

See glorious old churches

A fine example of Balkan architecture is The Aleksander Nevski memorial church. Built over 42 years beginning in 1882, the church is Sophia's premiere destination. Note the domes and half domes and the remarkable gold leaf, generously given to the congregation by the Soviet Union. The pews seat 5, 000 worshipers. The Boyana Church is surrounded by a quaint garden and inside is a magnificent collection of medieval frescoes. Dating back 600 years, they are so fragile that visitors are only allowed inside for 10 minutes at a time.

Revel in rebirth of Muslim heritage

Muslims were once persecuted by communists in Bulgaria. As a result, the Banya Bashi mosque, dating back to 1576, was left abandoned for many years. It fell into disrepair, but thanks to a grant by the European Union, the mosque is being restored and Muslims have claimed their rightful place within its walls. It is located a short distance away from the city's mineral springs. Artifacts from the former Thracian civilization, along with Greek and Roman artifacts are displayed at another mosque in Sofia, the Buyuk Djami, which is open to the public.

Discover Bulgaria's native animals

The Natural Science Museum, opened 1889, is situated on Sofia's Boulevard Tsar Osvoboditel. Inside is a meticulously kept archive of Bulgarian wildlife, including lizards and snakes. Next to the museum is a fascinating Russian church with a glorious exterior of vivid tiles, several gilded domes and an amazing spire all in emerald. The 1913 church was built by a diplomat who was fearful that praising God in a Bulgarian church would send him straight to hell.

Spectacular mountain vistas

Just 7 km from Sofia's city centre is beautiful Mount Vitosha. You'll stroll through villages in the foothills on the way to this mountain. Vitosha is perfect for hiking or a romantic picnic. In the winter, skiing is offered on Vitosha from December to March. Mix with the locals and don't miss one more nearby attraction. Dragalevtsi, home to an ancient and serene monastery.

Norfolk Island History

By George Brash

A tiny jewel set in the blue seas of the South Pacific, Norfolk Island is only 8 km (5 mi) long, and 1,600 km (994 mi) northeast of Sydney, Australia.

It is the biggest of a cluster of three islands on the Norfolk Ridge, fringed by coral reefs and crowned by pristine rainforest and some of the world's tallest tree ferns.

On 10 October 1774, James Cook first landed on this beautiful little island and named it in honour of the then Duchess of Norfolk.

Convicts started to arrive 14 years later and over time it gained quite a bad reputation, becoming known as 'hell in the Pacific'.

Then in 1856, descendants of the Bounty mutineers with their Tahitian wives and children sailed for five weeks from Pitcairn Island to settle on Norfolk Island. These new settlers brought with them a distinct culture and language, and many held mutineers' names such as Adams, Buffett, Christian and McCoy. From that day, Norfolk Island began its steady climb out of hell and into heaven.

Once sustained by agriculture and fishing, tourists now keep the island alive. But traditional culture remains deep rooted with dancing, singing and a unique cuisine. Banana dumplings, fried fish and Hihi pie, concocted with periwinkles, can be sampled at one of the fine restaurants scattered across the island.

The blue waters around Norfolk Island are teeming with fish, and there are countless fishing charters and scuba-diving trips out to the reef to explore this kaleidoscope underwater world. In the sheltered waters of Emily Bay, you can also indulge in some lazy swimming and snorkelling, and endless relaxation.

Norfolk Island is favoured by well-heeled Australians and New Zealanders, and a few millionaires have migrated to this tax-free haven. There are over 70 low-tax shops and many eager customers. Yet the island seems to balance the old and the new perfectly honouring its Pitcairn people, its rich environment and its visitors.

Which Is Better a Travel Agent Or Online Booking?

By Graham McKenzie

Which route is the best to go, using a travel agent, or booking online? That?s a good question, and one many people ask. At one time, using a travel agent was the first step in planning a vacation, but nowadays, more people are setting it up themselves, online.

The advantage to booking online is savings. Making your own arrangements can save you the cost of a travel agent?s fee. In addition, Internet hotel sites offer some great reductions on their room prices, and savings on flights is can be had, as well. However, you need to remember that cheaper prices can mean cheaper accommodations. Before you commit to booking that room, check out the customer reviews, and double-check the location of your hotel. The same cautions hold true with flight arrangements, as well. Paying less does not mean much if you fly into an airport that is nowhere near the city center; it adds both time and expense.

You can customize your itinerary by setting things up yourself. This means you do not have to travel on a package deal set up by a travel agency. However, travel agents can get anything you can, and sometimes they have resources the Internet cannot offer. Generally, agents do not have as much flexibility with airfares, but they do have more sway with cruises and tours.

Booking online is quite easy, if you are arranging a simple trip. On the other hand, if you have a complicated itinerary, a travel agent might be the way to go. In fact, the more facets added into the travel package, like hotels, air flights, tour packages, multiple destinations, and lay overs, the more you should consider an agent. Remember, travel agents are experts at making these arrangements. Not only can they offer excellent advice and tips, but also they can customize that vacation to suit your needs and wants. In addition, a good agent will know how to dig out the best possible deals, such as, knowing when to price part of your ticket in a foreign currency. Maybe you should book a day or two later to catch an off-season discount, or change the itinerary order to save some money. Moreover, do not forget about the fine print. Many people do, but an agent is required to make sure you are aware of every word.

Travel agents know that to stay in business, they need satisfied customers. Because of that, they go the extra mile. They typically double-check dates, or make sure you have all the needed documents and paperwork for traveling. Not only that, but they will search out the cheapest fares and accommodations, and make sure they meet your expectations.

There is no reason why you cannot go online and do this on their own, but be prepared for a very heavy investment of time, and some frustration. Also, keep in mind, that if something does go wrong with your bookings or accommodation arrangements, which can happen, you will not have a travel agent there to take your panicked call, and help fix the problem.

The bottom line, then, comes down to this: evaluate your travel needs, and choose the option that meets those needs. It is really up to you.

Disneyland Travel With Kids

By Lee Reid

If you end up having to carry your kids, you won't be able to fully enjoy the Disneyland theme park.

In fact, you probably won't even make it through the day without suffering from extreme exhaustion.

In addition, you need to consider the needs of your child too.

Your child will be walking around all day as well, so he or she will be tired too.

The answer to this situation is finding a way to show your children around the park without anyone suffering from exhaustion.

This writer recommends that you use a stroller.

Even Disneyland recommends that you use a stroller to carry your children.

All Disneyland theme parks offer rental strollers at very low prices.

They can be rented for under $10 a day and you can get a further discount if you need more than one stroller.

The strollers available for rental at Disneyland are of course very clean and well maintained.

If you do decide to rent a stroller at Disneyland, here is a tip.

Disney stroller rentals all look exactly alike.

You should tie something on the stroller, such as a colored ribbon, so you can easily distinguish it from the other strollers in the vicinity.

Of course, some basic rules do apply whether renting a Disneyland stroller or if you bring your own.

One of the most important rules is that you should never leave your child alone in the stroller without supervision.

This is just basic common sense and can prevent you from having a potential headache if some misfortune were to happen while you were away.

It goes without saying that you should never leave valuable items in the stroller.

With so many dishonest characters lurking about, don't make your valuables an easy target for them to steal.

Finally, Disneyland is an experience to be enjoyed by adults and children alike.

So, do yourself a favor, bring a stroller or consider renting one from Disneyland.

You will be glad you did.

Take a Caribbean Cruise Vacation in November and Revisit the Summer

By Ric Henderson

The summer months always seem to fly by and before you know it, football season is here and you trade in your flip flops for boots and that is that. No more beach, no more pool, just shoveling the sidewalk and dreaming of the days when the sun will shine again. Well why not bring the summer back a little early with a Caribbean Cruise Vacation?

There is no arguing the fact that most people are much happier in the summertime. Everyone is more pleasant, we get to go the beach or head out at the pool. When wintertime rolls around, things just seem to change. Instead of getting depressed as the summer drifts away, plan a Caribbean Cruise Vacation and give yourself something to get excited about this winter.

The Western Caribbean will present you with a lot of options and it has become very popular over the years. The ports of Jamaica, Cozumel, Mexico, Grand Cayman and Princess Cays are all part of this swing. While ships will leave from various ports, Miami and Ft. Lauderdale will probably give you the most options. Some of the activities enjoyed in this area are scuba diving (the Caymans in particular), snorkeling and hiking.

The Eastern Caribbean also has plenty of excellent ports. Some of the destinations here are worthy of longer stays so you may want to look into a destination cruise instead of a multi-port cruise. Puerto Rico, St. Thomas and St. Marteen have some of the best beaches in the Caribbean. Other activities to enjoy are rock climbing, exploring the rainforest and lots of great shopping.

An area that you may not find people flocking to, but is just as beautiful is the South Caribbean. It is not as popular as some of the other spots, but it is not because it lacks in things to do or beauty. This is the ideal Caribbean Cruise Vacation spot for someone that wants to stay away from the hustle and bustle and really sit back and enjoy what this part of the word has to offer.

Once you know where you want to go, the next decision you will have to make is how long of a vacation that you are going to take. There are cruises ranging anywhere from 3 " 8 days or more. If you really want to keep the summer going, split that vacation week up and take a couple of long weekends.

While the short cruises are definitely recommended, you will still want to take at least one long cruise. Being out on the ocean for 7 or more days is something that his hard to describe. You start out with a few days at sea to set the mood and then island hop for a few days and see some of the most majestic beaches and sites in creation. It truly is paradise stuffed into a week.

The summer ends when you say it does. Just because you see football on television and the weatherman starts calling for snow does not meant that you have to give into the season. Go on a Caribbean Cruise Vacation and steal back a few more of those summer days.

Tanning Bed Lamps

By Gail Jones

Tanning bed bulbs are located in each tan bed or suntan lamp in the shops. When you are purchasing a new or especially a used suntan bed, make a good examination of the lamps. Make sure that they are real tanning bulbs and meet the FDA regulations with regard to health and safety. You should also consider how difficult it is to get at the bulbs. Make sure that the bulbs are easy to change when needed. It is quite important, and a lot cheaper, if you can perform such simple maintenance yourself, if you buy a home sun bed.

There are two completely different kinds of lamps used in conventional and high pressure beds. Make sure you get the right sun bed bulbs for your sun bed, because you cannot use any bulbs you like. If you are ordering replacement bulbs on the Internet, check the make and model of your existing bed carefully. Ensure that the bulbs you are buying are made for your bed.

High Pressure Sunbed Bulbs: high pressure beds use quartz lamps in a variety of sizes. The gases used in these bulbs are pressurized to slightly higher than atmospheric pressure. The bulbs in these beds are located in the hood of the bed, so that you tan from above only. When you have tanned the skin on one side of your body for about 10-12 minutes, you turn over and tan the other side. The flat bed of these tanners is a lot more comfortable than a conventional tanning bed.

The biggest benefit of these bulbs is the amount of time you need to spend on the sun bed. Since you tan more quickly, you need to spend less time in the salon, which means it works out cheaper. You can get the level of tan you want in about three weeks of three to five sessions each week. However, with a conventional bed, it would take you at least a month to achieve the same depth of colour. Maintaining your tan is much easier too. You only need two or three sessions a month to maintain the colour, compared with four times that many sessions on a low pressure bed. Many of these lamps use UVA rays only, not UVB rays which cause burning.

Conventional Tanning Bed Bulbs: Conventional, or low pressure sunbeds use long tube lamps that resemble household fluorescent tubes. The lamps are situated above and below the tanning bed, which means that all the body areas are browned at the together, without having to change positions during the tanning session.

Conventional beds use UVA and UVB rays in varying mixes. Some use both rays and others emit mostly UVA with some UVB rays. UVA rays are the cause of the (premature) ageing effects on the skin and UVB rays are the burning rays that cause skin burn when you are outside in the sun. It is very important to determine which type of rays your tan bed's bulbs emit. You must ensure you replace your existing bulbs with the same new lamps after about 1,000 hours of use.

Something else to think about when selecting the type of bed you use at home or in the salon, is the tanning bed lotion you will use. Different lotions suit different sorts of beds. The owner of your tanning salon can help you select a lotion that will work for the bed you are using and your skin type. Regardless of the bed you use, you ought to certainly always use a lotion or a cream, because they will nourish your skin and help you get a Hollywood tan more quickly.

Want To Join Italian Village Festival? Pick Any Of These 6

By Cristiano Rubbi

Sfida dei Borghi (Challenge of the Wards) - Monte Compatri. Imagine a medieval-style archery contest, people dressed in period costume surrounding the contest area and an attentive crowd following every shot of the competitors. This is what you will see if you go to Monte Compatri, a small town in the vicinity of Rome, in the middle of August. The interest of the townsfolk is particularly keen because each archer represents one of the towns 5 wards and a victory will enhance the "status" of a ward for the coming year. Before the actual contest starts, a long, sumptuously dressed procession easily wins the spectators admiration, thanks to the beautiful costumes worn by its 300 participants, who parade through the local streets packed with enthusiastic crowds. Street artists and other performers complete a truly interesting programme that is always enjoyed by the local population as much as by visiting tourists.

Mercatini del 600 (17th century Markets) - Bassano Romano. The 17th century was for Bassano a time of peace and comparative prosperity. Small wonder then that many years ago, when the towns senior citizens met to discuss what period in its history should be represented at an event to be held once a year, it was decided to pick exactly that century. The result is a masterly reproduction of the local markets " and concurrently of peoples habits and fashions " as they were in those days, re-enacted in the month of July. Every detail has been carefully planned and executed in order to give visitors the impression of stepping back into the past: from the participants attire to the layout of their stalls, from the decorations of buildings and streets to specially designed scenes along the way. And the deceptively unsophisticated-looking restaurants do a great job at meeting the demands of the many customers tempted by local delicacies.

Gara dei Giochi di Bandiera (Flag Wavers' Competition) - Piansano Romano. Is flag-waving just a simple game? The answer is, it all depends on how its done. If you go to Piansano Romano in the month of July, you might be surprised to see what an expert flag-waver can do. The flag almost seems to come alive in his hands, as he throws it around, up and down and passes it to other members of the team. Just imagine the glorious colours of many flags moving at the same time, often in opposite directions. Its really a stunning spectacle, which is all the more picturesque because it is carried out in medieval costume. Of course, the local team must compete with out-of-town teams and these are strong competitors to be reckoned with. The teams use all their skills and stamina to carry the day and the public shouts their support of the respective teams. There is no way a visitor could walk away unimpressed.

Cena Medievale (Medieval Dinner) - Vignanello. How can a small town in the vicinity of Rome be of interest to anyone travelling to this area on the third week of July? Well, if you are interested in seeing a medieval setting and at the same time having a hearty dinner, with a menu that is taken directly from ancient recipes, Vignanello is the place you want. Aside from the excellent quality of the food and drink (the wine is the very best of local production), the evening is characterized by a friendly and uninhibited atmosphere that immediately makes all guests feel perfectly at home. And thats not all. A historical procession takes place for the occasion, while flag-wavers give ample proof of their ability in various exhibitions.

Infiorata (Flower Petal Art Display) - Genazzano. Flowers have always been regarded as a beautiful ornament of houses and gardens, but if you wish to see a display of flower petal art over half a mile long, forming a variety of designs made directly on the streets, you must go to Genazzano, a town in the Rome area, on the first Sunday in July. This special event draws large crowds of visitors because of the patient and precise work involved and its extraordinary results. An unbroken stream of colourful patterns winds through the streets of the town delivering a message of peace, beauty and love of nature that is truly touching in its simplicity and yet admirable in its perfection. In the afternoon the Procession of the Sacred Heart, which includes 400 participants dressed in period costumes, passes over the flowers decorating the streets as a sign of devotion.

Sagra dei Bucatini all'Amatriciana (Festival of Bucatini all'Amatriciana) - Nerola. You are no doubt familiar with many types of pasta. Have you ever tasted bucatini, though? This variety is quite common in Central Italy, particularly in the amatriciana version. The sauce is absolutely divine and its ingredients include pancetta, which is similar to bacon. The Festival that takes place at Nerola in late July/early August focuses on this specialty and the result is invariably superb. We suggest that, if you are in the Rome area on the date of the Festival, you visit Nerola and see if you agree with our opinion. If you have tried bucatini all'Amatriciana back home, you will probably notice a considerable difference in taste, which is mostly due to the ability of the housewives who prepare the pasta with their own hands, according to traditional recipes that have been handed down for generations.

Little Red Wagon - Traditional Gifts For Toddlers and Babies

By Edie Mindell

Let's face it - we all love the idea of the little red wagon. For some their fondness may have grown out of their attachment to the wagon they had when they were young. Other's obsession with it might be more sentimental with memories linked to grandma's house and quality time spent with cousins as grandma pulled you around the block. Perhaps you always harbored a secret and unfulfilled desire to have a wagon of your very own.

No matter the starting point of the red wagon obsession, you vowed that your children would be properly and continuously supplied with a one of their own to enjoy hours of play and fond memories for years. Now the time has come for you to make good on your vow to yourself. You have been blessed with a bundle of joy that you would like to take on a ride in a little red wagon.

The thought of a wagon which pops into most adult's heads brings with it an uncannily similar mental image: a red metal contraption, with a black handle and white decals on the sides, rust spots and wear may vary depending on use or abuse. Times have changed and with it the wagon we all love. If you have a girl you can get a princess wagon befitted with sparkles and pink paint. Boys also have themed wagons of their own. Not to be out done, popular children's shows have emblazoned their images on many wagons. You can choose from metal or plastic.

There is still the perennial favorite of the traditional red wagon. Yet even the traditional item has morphed into several varieties. You can choose from the basic red wagon for use out doors, a red wagon topped with wooden railings and even a mini-red wagon for use inside with stuffed toys and dolls.

When trying to choose let your nostalgic need be placed on the back burner and consider what your baby or toddler is likely to want most. Girly-girls will love the red models. If your child is nuts for Barney, as embarrassed as you might be to pull your son in his very own Radio Flyer wagon while he belts 'I love you, you love me...' at the top of his voice, looking lovingly at his purple friend. This is is the memory and toy he is likely to cherish most. A large wagon is not always feasible. In this case a small indoor red wagon might be the perfect way to get your child a wagon of his own.

If you are ahead of the game and your child is still a baby, then buy the item you want most (maybe think about the models with higher sides) and your child will grow up with the wagon they love most because you played with them in it since before they could remember. Any way you slice it, it's a winning gift.

Spain Guide : Palacio Real In Madrid

By Tony Allan

The Palacio Real (Royal Palace) located in Madrid is known for its astounding classical architecture, and for the wondrous statues, monuments, and lavish gardens that adorn the area. The Palace took 25 years to be built, and until 1931, the Palace was occupied by a line of Spanish rulers, who used it as the center of a powerful dynasty that controlled half of the world - or what was known of it during the 18th century.

The palace is so elaborate that you would not be able view its entirety in one just day, though less than ten percent of the palace is available to the public. In its splendor, the palace is made up of nearly 3,000 rooms with 240 balconies and over forty staircases, and one can behold its grand furniture, extravagant decorations, and grandiose ornaments all throughout.

You'll see the Throne Room, the center of command for one of the greatest superpowers in the world, as well as the Royal Armory, with weapons, armor, and Spanish Inquisition torture equipment all on display.

In the palace you will also experience the Royal Pharmacy, where you will learn more about past medical customs; The Royal Library, where numerous first editions of critical Spanish literature are retained; and an impressive banquet hall, where many of the most legendary European rulers have feasted.

Outside of Palacio Real, you can walk through the Royal Gardens (which are the most famous in Madrid), enjoy the sight of the Manzanares River, and watch the changing of the guards.

A guided tour of the palace, lasting about two-hours, is the ideal way to both see the sights and to learn the history. Be sure to book these $30 tours in advance, especially in the summer months, as they sell out quickly. Taking photos isn't permitted, though you can purchase postcards and picture books at the end of the tour to remind you of what you've seen.

Camping Trip Essentials

By Hasse Larsen

Camping is an activity that in most cases requires a lot of planning. There is an old saying that goes like this "planning the trip is half the trip." This might be a stretch, but not as far as you might think. It is very important to have everything planned before going.

To make the job easier for you, I will try to give a few pointers on what you cannot forget in this article. I have focused on the most important things, the things you can't afford to forget. Things like tooth paste i have chosen to ignore.

Often when I think back at my camping trips, it is the good food combined with a good environment around the table that first comes to mind. This is why the first thing that I always back is my cooking equipment. The modern ones usually don't weigh anything, so they are easy to carry.

Another thing that you should make sure that you don't forget is your tent. Even though the sun is shining and no clouds can be seen, I always bring the tent because you never know. It is a pain to walk back in pouring rain. Remember that you can sleep outside under that sky even if you have your tent in your backpack.

When you have the tent safely placed in your backpack it is time to find your sleeping bag. Just as with the tents, I know that a lot of people say that they don't need a sleeping bag. For me, a sleeping bag is extremely important as i have problems sleeping without something around my body. I also use a mattress, primarily an inflatable mattress.

One thing that a lot of people don't think of is to bring a map. I always bring one, sometimes just for curiosity.

Even though these things are very important to remember, there is one thing that is even more important for a lot of people. That thing is obviously food. For the regular camper catching and preparing food in the wild is not a common thing to do. Food that you bring from home is a lot easier to deal with.

Explore Tibetan Shops In Beijing To Find Thangkas

By Andy Lao

Thangkas are one of Tibet's most famous art forms, and they have fascinated generations of art fans around the world. Developed during the Songtsan Gampo era of Tibet, they incorporate elements from both Nepalese art and traditional Chinese paintings. Valued for their exquisite craftsmanship, they are also admired for their unique beauty and practical function. When traveling to other places, Tibetan monks will often carry a thangka to communicate with their gods. On a good tour in Beijing, you can find exquisite thangkas made by great Tibetan artists.

Much like a scroll painting, thangkas can be easily rolled up for storage and unrolled for display. Travelers and monks like to carry a thangka when they travel to other places because it is very lightweight. Home-dwelling Tibetans also like to use thangkas in their homes because they are beautiful and can be easily be put on a wall.

Serving as an object for worship and meditation, thangkas often have images that depict prominent figures of Buddism, like the Buddha, bodhisattvas, and other gods. These figures, along with the depictions of their life stories that usually appear in the background, are intended to educate, enlighten, or enhance the contemplative experience of the people who study them.

The profound symbolism of a finely made thangka may have thousands of bits of information contained in the color, clothing, and positions of the figures that enable a Buddhist to learn the teachings of Buddhism by examining the overall image. A commonly item you'll see is the Wheel of Life, a form of the universe in Buddhism.

Making a thangka is an extremely difficult process. To make one thangka, a trained painter will use a variety of techniques and paints to create pictures on a cotton canvas or a piece of silk. All of the details are to be correctly painted and must conform to a set standard. The standard is very strict because even a small mistake can distort the original meaning of the message. To do this, a painter needs to have excellent painting skills and a deep understanding of both Buddhism and Tibetan culture. One of the characteristics of authentic thangkas is that they use paints made of natural minerals.

Depending on the method of production and materials used, thangkas can be grouped into two main categories: "Bris-Tang" and "Go-Tang."

"Bris-Tang": Thangkas that are painted are called "Bris-Tang." The five specific types belonging to this category are: Multi-Colored, Gold Background, Vermilion Background, Black Background, and Block Printing "Bris-Tang."

"Go-Tang": "Go-Tang" thangkas are thangkas that are embroidered or made of silk. There are also five specific types in this category: Embroidery, Applique, Glued Applique, Hand-Woven, and Block Printing "Go-Tang."

There is a strict rule concerning the use of colors on thangka. Different colors are used to denote different themes or different characters. Red is often the main color for thangkas depicting the life stories of the Buddha. Black is mostly used to depict gods whose main duty is subjugating evils. Blue is employed when the emphasis is on joyous events. Green is used to represent activity. And white symbolizes peace and compassion.

There are many fantastic local shops in Beijing that offer genuine thangkas painted by master artists from Tibet. Visit these shops when you are in Beijing, and you won't forget the experience. It's best to get a Beijing tour guide to help you find these places.

Accepting a long layover can also get you a cheaper flight, with a few hours in a connecting airport or even a night's stay in the connecting city saving you big money.

If you are too specific about arrival or departure time, that little details can add hundred dollars on top of your usual fare. Therefore, choosing anytime for both arrival and departure time when you search for your flights will return you the best fare results.

Rottnest Island Western Australia

By Susan Rowan

Sitting on the edge of the Australian continental shelf near Perth in western Australia, Rottnest Island is just 11 km (6 mi) long and 4.5 km (2.7 mi) at its widest point. An iconic holiday destination for Perth residents, with 70 per cent of visitors coming for a day out, the entire island is run as a nature reserve and the surrounding waters as a marine park.

Known to local Aboriginal people as Wadjemup, the island is believed to be a place of spirits and is of significance to the Aboriginal communities. Artefacts have been found at a number of sites on Rottnest Island which are at least 6,500 years old, and possibly older, so there were indigenous people living here before sea levels rose and the island was separated from the mainland.

The first Europeans to discover the island were Dutch navigators who were searching for a shorter route from the Cape of Good Hope to Batavia in the 17th century. At that time the island was uninhabited. Samuel Volkerson was the first European to actually land on the island in 1658. William de Vlamingh visited in 1696 and named the island Rottnest after the abundance of Quokkas (small marsupials) he saw, mistaking them for rats.

Other Europeans soon followed, believing the island had potential for salt harvesting, farming and fishing. From 1839 for almost a century the island housed a penal colony for Aboriginal men and boys. When the colony closed, the leisure potential of the island was realized and tourism took off.

The island is best explored by bicycle as private cars are not allowed. The 24-km (15-mi) route around the coast runs through some of the most beautiful scenery, passing small, sandy beaches in secluded coves. The island has a total of 63 beaches and 20 bays, some of the finest in the world, and the turquoise water makes swimming here a must.

There are lovely reefs here, with twenty species of colourful corals and 364 species of fish, which can be explored by snorkelling, diving or a trip in a glass-bottomed boat. There are also a number of shipwrecks close to the shore, making diving here a popular pastime. Look out for humpback whales, green and loggerhead turtles, rays and bottlenose dolphins.

Montana: A Brief State History

By Nathan Vance

Before the state of Montana was named, and before it even became a state, the Native American people lived there on their own. Whether they knew that there were other people out there and whether they thought that those people might come to take their land is only speculation. They were just interested in raising their families, and they hunted, fished, and grew crops there, just like in other states. Even though there were quite a few different groups of Native Americans, there was plenty of land so they could put space between them if they didn't get along.

Since there was a large amount of space available, most tribes were able to get along with one another, if only because they didn't see each other that much. The Blackfeet, the Crow, and the Cheyenne were just some of the tribes that made that area their home for a number of years. Some kept to themselves because they were smaller, and others were large and influential, trading with other tribes and occasionally just taking what they wanted. Smaller tribes mostly focused on simply staying clear of the larger tribes.

When the Louisiana Purchase occurred back in 1803 the part of Montana east of the continental divide was included. During that period of time you didn't need a lot of money to buy a great big piece of land. There weren't a bunch of people who wanted the land, so it became easy for a person to get a great deal of it, and it wasn't considered to be worth very much. The idea of owning land so you could have value later, or owning it so that you could resell it, wasn't really there.

With the Louisiana Purchase, though, things started to change and it was discovered that there were many different climates in this new country. There were also valuable minerals in some of the land, making it more important at that point than other areas. In the 1860s, after people found gold in Montana and Lewis and Clark went exploring, the area was made into a United States Territory. It remained so for years, even as other areas were becoming states in the newly-created United States of America.

It became the 41st state in 1889. Soon there was construction of all kinds of buildings, including Fort Shaw. That particular fort was used during the civil war. It had not only parade grounds and barracks, but stores, a hospital, and other important necessities that the soldier staying there would require.

There were still vast areas where nothing had been built, so places like Fort Shaw had to be generally self-sufficient so that they could operate and be effective. Fort Shaw became obsolete, was no longer needed, and eventually closed in 1891. After closing down as a military installation it was decided that Fort Shaw would be used as a school. The alternatives were to allow it to decay or to tear it down, both of which seemed to be wasteful, so the school idea was a great alternative.

The school on the old Fort Shaw military base provided industrial training to youngsters who were American Indian. There were more than 300 students when it opened, and over 20 of the original army buildings were utilized. In the early 1900s, a revised Homestead Act also greatly affected the people who lived in Montana. It expanded the land that had already been provided by the Homestead Act of 1862, and the change increased the land that a person could homestead from 160 acres up to 320 acres.

It was signed into law by then-President Taft, and the Sun River Irrigation Project was also opened for homesteading in 1908. That was located just west of Great Falls, and was a Reclamation Act that allowed people to claim anything up to 40 acres so that they could build a home - but they had to live there, and there were strict requirements for how long they had to remain and how long they could be gone from the property at any one time. Most people who moved there were couples, they were young, they wanted to live near the mountains, they came predominantly from the Midwest, and they were ready to hunt and fish. Custer's Last Stand was also in Montana, when the Native Americans fought to keep their land and were eventually defeated.

The Nez Perce Wars are part of Montana's history, too. Most of that history means cattle ranching, which is still popular today. It has grown a lot, and the cattle ranching and Native American influence make it popular with residents and tourists.

The living dead have been known to play tricks with the crops. They can cause illness to those who wronged them in life, or ruin their crops. Living in fear of these dead returning to life, people would provide gifts and offerings to the spirits by holding a bonfire celebration. These offerings are believed to satisfy the spirits. The Druids would predict the future with the help of these spirits, and the predictions were important to provide a sense of security and comfort through the long and cold winter months.

What is Short-Term Corporate Housing?

By Amy Nutt

When one is traveling to a new city and staying for an extended period of time, they will soon discover the enormous cost of staying in a hotel. Fortunately, there are accommodation options available that provide all of the luxuries of a hotel without its excessive costs. Whether your stay is business or personal, short-term housing may be the solution to reducing costs. One type of rental accommodation that is growing in popularity is Short-Term Corporate Housing.

Short-Term Corporate Housing refers to furnished apartments, condominiums, and privately owned homes that are available to anyone who requires housing for an extended period of time. Although top corporations and businesses make use of short-term corporate housing, you do not have to be in the business industry to take advantage of this form of housing. Guests can include business travelers, vacationers, people relocating to a new city, and more. Corporate housing providers generally offer such features as fully furnished units, a fully functional kitchen with modern appliances that also includes pots and pans, linens, and all of the utilities.

A key feature that makes short-term housing so popular is that they are often highly customizable. For instance, depending on what type of accommodation you choose, short-term corporate housing can contain the following amenities: washer and dryer, laundry service, valet service, fitness center, garage parking, choice of furnishings, racquetball courts, private mailbox, free local telephone, high-speed internet access, housekeeping services, grocery shopping service, tennis courts, swimming pool, and urban and suburban locations. As well, there are corporate accommodations suited for family and pets. This can include providing the necessary items for babies.

Depending on your needs, the layout of short-term corporate housing accommodations is both big and roomy. As well, they can include multiple bedrooms, more than one bathroom, and a separate dining and living room. Comfort, convenience, and luxury are key features of short-term corporate housing. There is also ample room to entertain guests and business associates. Business guests can even set up their own mini at-home office.

Corporate apartments are much larger than regular and extended stay hotel rooms, and provide a home-like atmosphere. The set minimum stay at a short term corporate housing accommodation will vary by property owner, but stays can be as little as a week or thirty days or more.

Staying in a traditional hotel for more than a few days can end up being a very expensive endeavor. Whether you are traveling to an area for business or a personal purpose, if you are going to be staying for a period of time that could result in a high hotel expense, you may want to consider short-term corporate housing. After a hectic and tiring day at work or other activity, guests can return to housing that is comfortable, cozy, and much like a home away from home environment, instead of a tiny and reserved hotel room. If you are planning on an extended stay trip, short-term corporate housing may be the solution. The convenience, reasonable rates, and luxurious accommodations that are associated with corporate housing will make your time away from home much more comfortable.

And in addition to that, there are also two awesome zoos in Chicago. One of them, the Lincoln Park Zoo, is the oldest in the U.S. but is still one of the best to visit. And my favorite part of it is that it is free to visit all year round.

The second zoo is the Brookfield Zoo which is located on the west side of downtown. It is a marvel of landscaping and has more than two thousand animals in it. Some of the other Chicago attractions that are famous are the Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, and the Field Museum.

Who Has Scored The Most Goals In World Cup Soccer History?

By Amy Nutt

Almost every culture around the world has some type of connection to the history of football/soccer. Such cultures as the Ancient Greeks, Persians, Vikings, The Chinese, Japanese, and much more, played a game that is much like todays football/soccer. For instance, The Chinese played "footballer" games dating as far back as about 3000 years ago. However, it was in England that soccer / football really began to grow in popularity. After becoming popular in England, soccer became a widely loved sport throughout the world. The celebrated FIFA World cup led the way to the rise of soccer stars, and conferred world soccer records holders such as the player who has scored the most goals in world cup soccer history.

Brazilian professional footballer Ronaldo Nazario de Lima has scored the most goals in Fifa World Cup history. Ronaldo Lus Nazario de Lima, more generally known as Ronaldo, was born in September 18, 1976. In 1993, Ronaldo began his professional soccer/footballer career playing for Cruzeiro. In his single year with Cruzeiro, he accumulated 12 goals in 14 games and led the team to win their first Copa do Brasil championship. After playing with Cruzeiro, in 1994, he joined with the Dutch football team PSV. In 1996, in his final year with PSV, Ronaldo aided the team to win the Dutch Cup.

Ronaldo is also an established national footballer for Brazil. He has played in 97 international games, accumulating 62 goals and standing 15 goals away from the Brazilian national scoring record. He was a member of the Brazilian team that won the 1994 and 2002 World Cups. During the 2006 World Cup soccer game, Ronaldo became the highest goal scorer in the history of the World Cup with his fifteenth goal. "The Phenomenon" in English, Ronaldo made the number 9 famous and made it tantamount with the position of center forward. During his footballer career in Europe, Ronaldo became one of the most celebrated strikers throughout the world after he won his first Ballon d'Or as the European Footballer of the Year in 1997, and then once more in 2002. He is also one of only two players to have won the FIFA Player of the Year award three times. In 2007, he was named as one of the best starting eleven of all-time by France Football and was named to the FIFA 100, a list of the greatest footballers compiled by his fellow Brazilian soccer star, Pel.

To many contemporary footballers, Ronaldo is a living icon who has been credited with encouraging a stronger marketing interest in soccer throughout the world, particularly because of his relationship with Nike who had in the past spent their marketing resources and time primarily on Basketball.

The soccer that we know today was shaped during the 1960s. Increased media coverage and TV broadcasts has made the game more popular than ever. With soccer stars such as David Beckham in the spotlight, the popularity of soccer will continue to grow.

Challenged for a Great Holiday Gift? Consider Toddler Chairs

By Edie Mindell

The three bears had their own place to sit; your child deserves a seat of his own too A chair may not seem like a very exciting Christmas gift. This is usually the thought of the parent. Children see things a bit differently. Even with the competition of dolls, cars, blocks or games calling for a child's attention a chair just their size usually is a sought out and fought over prize.

Think about it for a moment: your baby or toddler lives in a world hugely out of their reach. The kitchen table towers of their heads, the couch and arm chairs they see mommy and daddy sitting in so comfortably can only be reached with help or after a monumental climb that takes months of preparation to complete. The cupboards and storage areas are huge, high and often off limits to your child's curious little fingers.

Yet in this huge over sized world your baby and toddler watch you, and learn by mimicking your every move. Our children when they are smallest want to do and be exactly what they see mom or dad doing or being. Add to the desire to emulate their parents the stubbornness of a toddler ardently wishing to do it himself, and a chair just your baby's size does not seem like such a boring gift anymore. You still don't buy into the depth of a child's desire to fit into the adult world of their mom or dad? Take a stroll down the toy aisles as you shop for holiday gifts suited to your 18-month old son or daughter. What do you see: dolls, mini babies for toddler's hands to soothe; cars and trucks for children to drive; cell phones; tea sets and cookware; tools to rival the collection of even the most well equipped handyman; there are even toys devoted to mimicking cleaning supplies which are hugely popular. Thinking of giving your child a toy broom and dustpan puts the idea of a chair into perspective.

There are many kinds of chairs you can choose from for your toddler. Deciding how and where your child will use their chair will help you zero in on the perfect one. For example a chair for use in the kitchen will have different specifications than a chair used in the family room or a bedroom. You will find tiny wooden rocking chairs that are so elegant they will look at home in the most perfectly appointed rooms.

Want something just fun with lots of bold colors? There are chairs for that too! You will find soft fabric and foam chairs, as well as wooden, plastic or metal chairs. Some chairs are tiny replicas of their larger cousins made for grown up bodies, others are wild and fun designs only for children's use. There are even chairs dedicated to favorite classical and modern childhood characters.

Great Gay Travel to Morocco

By Howie Holben

Morocco is a country steeped in myths and legend and offers travelers the opportunity to experience a rich history and culture that continues to strongly influence daily life. Morocco offers visitors the chance to cross the desert atop a camel, sleep in a hotel made of sand and haggle with aggressive spice and rug traders in marketplaces that look and feel like they are from another time in history. In many towns and cities former homes have been transformed into guest lodgings, called riads, that often offer a more welcoming atmosphere for travelers on a gay vacation and provide the opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture and daily life of Morocco. While there is no visible scene in this conservative Muslim country, there are still abundant reasons for Morocco to be part of your gay travel plans, including ancient ruins and architecture, exceptional beaches, desert landscapes that stretch as far as the eye can see and open air souks (markets) that wind through village streets offering exotic wares.

Any travel experience in Morocco must include exploring the distinct quarters of the Fes medina, taking in the art deco architecture of Casablanca, breathing in the ocean air while watching a spectacular sunrise or sunset in Tangier, and visiting the Dar Si Said Museum in Marrakech. With breathtaking Muslim mosques, snake charmers, street performers, ancient Roman ruins and so much more, a vacation to Morocco gives travelers the opportunity to immerse themselves in the colors, sounds, sights and smells of this unique country.

Jet set European and American composers, writers and socialites once flocked to Morocco in droves, making it a well-known, popular vacation destination; however, while Morocco was once a welcoming playground for gay vacations, a push by Muslim leaders to return to the stricter moral code of Islam has negatively influenced this once liberal vacation spot. While rarely enforced, same-sex conduct was criminalized in 1962 and travelers on a vacation to Morocco should keep in mind that it is a criminal offence punishable by up to three years in prison and fines.

The government released a statement in early 2009 stating that homosexuality would not be tolerated and that increased efforts to repress same-sex conduct would be established. This may mean increased enforcement of this 1962 law. This is not uncommon in primarily Muslim countries and does not mean that Morocco should be avoided when planning travel.

It simply means that discretion and awareness are advised while taking a vacation in Morocco. Travelers may want to consider visiting Morocco in an organized travel tour group or planning your vacation to Morocco through a travel agency that has particular knowledge regarding the most welcoming lodgings and locations for vacations.

Disneyland Travel With Young Children

By Lee Reid

You won't have a good time during your visit to the Disney amusement park if you have to lug your kids around in your arms.

In fact, you probably won't even make it through the day without suffering from extreme exhaustion.

Furthermore, think of your child as well.

Your child will be walking around all day as well, so he or she will be tired too.

You need a way to get your child around the theme park without either of you becoming completely worn out.

Well, the perfect solution is using a stroller.

In fact, strollers are highly recommended for use at Disneyland theme parks.

All Disneyland theme parks offer rental strollers at very low prices.

You can secure a stroller for around $9 a day and you can rent additional strollers at a special discount price.

It goes without saying that the rental strollers from Disneyland are clean and well maintained.

If you have made the wise decision of using a stroller rental at Disneyland, here is some advice you can use.

Disney stroller rentals all look exactly alike.

You should tie something on the stroller, such as a colored ribbon, so you can easily distinguish it from the other strollers in the vicinity.

There are a few guidelines when it comes to bringing your own stroller or using a Disney rental.

First, never leave your child unattended in the stroller.

This will help to prevent possible problems that could occur if something unfortunate were to happen. Furthermore, it is good common parental sense.

You will thank yourself for making such a wise decision.

Mount Kenya National Parks and Masai Mara are two other popular Kenyan national parks. The former boasts of a rich rain forest while the latter has plains that stretch for hundreds of miles. If you're headed to Kenya, you'll be accompanied by a guide who will drive you and the others either in open back trucks, 4x4 vehicles or mini buses.

The Advantages for Using Holiday Reviews When Travelling To Greece

By Jim Bowen

When the time for Holiday season arrives and people desperately search for some economical holiday options. While English tourists are famous for their travelling streaks, not all are that much interested in going to places that are not famed tourist resorts. There have been changes in their trend and behaviours towards picking the holiday destination.

There were times when the English people were recognised to be one of the most courageous tourists that used to travel to all undomesticated places in the world, including war torn regions like Afghanistan and Iraq. Now they desire to go to places that are suitable for family atmosphere holding plush facilities.

Greece provides all the above-mentioned qualities. It is situated on the shores of the Mediterranean. The geographical location of Greece makes it an ideal candidate for tourism activities as it is the corridor to Middle East on one side and Europe on the other. Greece itself has a rich history that spans over thousands of years. After all, the Greek culture and history is one of the unique and exquisite in the world.

Greece is attracting many tourists each year as it has developed its tourist attractions as per world class standards. Other than the tourist main visiting places like Athens and Olympia, the sandy Greek beaches are also attracting thousands of tourists. In realness, this number has risen to many more because so many people are using holiday reviews to plan their vacation in a superb approach.

So what are these holiday reviews? As the name suggests, these holiday reviews are informational material that helps tourists in getting to know all the attractions present in Greece. Holiday reviews are also much sought after by tourists because they have all the information about the discounts available on hotel deals, car rentals, holidays packages and restaurant offers, among other things.

The main wonderful feature of holiday reviews is that it is available on internet and you do not need to have the old-style guidebooks. Those guide books are not much used by the contemporary tourists. Most holiday reviews are available free on different Web sites but some portals also have charges. These Web sites have greater information about the places along with the deals and offers at that particular place as compared to the free sites.

A lot of tourists pick holiday reviews that are written by other travellers instead of a paid content writer. These reviews give facts that are more open about all the tourist attractions and deals. Unlike business promotion travel reviews, that incline to give you a green picture about every tourist mark in Greece, layperson reviews tell all the good and bad aspects of Greek tourism. If you have plans to visit Greece, you must collect as much information as possible from these holiday reviews sites.

There is another way of getting information about Greek tourism is through the reading the blogs of holiday reviews. These are often personal experiences and views but give a very precise picture of the real tourist life in Greece. No matter you check the sites that are free of cost or you check the sites that charge, you must check all the information before you travel to Greece or any other place. You may get the best deals offered at the time of your travel.

Park City Is A Top Choice For Your Next Ski Trip

By Susan Mayloch

Park City, Utah sits in the heart of the Wasatch Mountains, a perennial favorite with vacationers from all over the world. Deer Valley, Park City Mountain Resort, and The Canyons, the three resorts in Park City, make the area a popular destination whether visitors are coming for the world famous Utah snow, or hiking and biking in the summer. Direct flights into Salt Lake City make the trip to Park City that much more tempting.

Thanks to the brief 45 minute commute from the airport to Park City, skiers have the ability to start the day traveling, and to finish it with some turns at one of Park City's mountains. It can take approximately 15 minutes to travel between the three resorts, which makes it very easy for visitors to sample what each resort has to offer in one stay. All three resorts have a maximum elevation of around 10,000 feet, and between them all, there is nearly 9,000 ski-able acres that await.

While skiing and snowboarding are the main draws for the area, they are far from being the only outdoor activities. Some popular winter pastimes include cross country skiing, snowmobiling, and sleigh rides, which become even more spectacular in the alpine setting. Outdoor enthusiasts can appreciate a summer visit as well, with mountain biking, hiking, and water sports all available in the area.

Most people come to Park City for sports in one form or another, but for those after a different type of vacation, one of the local festivals is sure to please. There are festivals that occur in both summer and winter, which have become increasingly popular over the years. The most famous is the Sundance Film Festival, in which the film industry spends ten days in January to preview their movies. Summer festivals, such as the Kimball Arts Festival, take advantage of the pleasant summer temperatures and hold their festivities outside.

While many people are familiar with present day Park City, not everyone has knowledge about Park City's past. Park City began as a mining town in the late 1800s, and was a source of lead, silver, and gold. The mining history of the town can be seen throughout, when skiing by the Silver King mine at Park City Mountain, or admiring the colorful restored miner's homes in Old Town.

There are all types of lodging options for visitors, including some of the miner's homes, many of which can be rented on a nightly basis. Individually owned homes, town homes, and condos are available at nearly every price point and location throughout the area. For more traditional hotel lodging, there is a selection of chain hotels on the outskirts of town, boutique hotels right on Main Street, and everything in between.

There are nearly as many places to dine in Park City as there are to stay while in the area. Main Street features a large variety of cuisines from international to domestic in all different atmospheres. Fine dining can be found throughout Park City, but Deer Valley, in particular, has a plethora of award winning restaurants. For a more unique experience, the resorts all offer yurt dining, which provides diners with an on mountain meal that few experience.

Checking out the nightlife is a popular diversion while in town. There is a large selection of bars, pubs, and clubs lining Main Street, all a short walk from any of the restaurants. Musical and performing acts can also be found at different venues on Main Street.

The Great Museums Of London

By Olive Jillian Carter

There are many different museums throughout Britain, and even just to go through all of the ones in London it would most likely take a good few days. Here I will mention some of the more notable ones and give you a couple of reasons why they're worth a visit.

The British Museum holds a huge wealth of Art collections and historical artifacts from all around the world. The collections of exhibitions and artwork number to the thousands spanning across 2 million years of Human History. They are the finest and most unique items which range from the earliest human technology to the Medieval Iron works we have a comprehensive collection of thousands of artifacts and a huge amount of factual information which makes the whole visit and inspiring and educational.

The Bank of England Museums historical displays include artifacts drawn from the Bank's own collections of books, documents, silver, prints, paintings, banknotes, coins and photographs. There is a display of gold, including Roman and modern gold bars, alongside pikes and muskets once used to defend the Bank. Computer technology and audio visual displays explain the Bank's present day role.

The Design Museum aims to interest everyone in modern design, displaying exhibitions on historical design, modern design and contemporary design and has received huge acclaim for these areas, recognising it as one of the leading museums of modern and contemporary design in the world.

The first talk of the Imperial War Museum was in 1917 when the Cabinet decided that a museum should be built to display artifacts from the Great War which was of course still going on at the time. The title Imperial War Museum came about when the Dominion governments showed in the prospect. It was officially established as a museum by act of parliament in 1920 and was given a governing board of trustees.

Madam Tussauds is now a famous name because of the museum (which was intended as a tribute to her) that displays ultra-life like wax models. The chamber of horrors got given its name by Punch magazine when they say the collection of gruesome French revolution wax depictions. By the year of her death, 1850, she has received massive acclaim and success and would be remembered for a long time to come.

The Natural History Museum first opened its gates to the public on Easter Monday, 1881, its origins began more than 250 years ago. Sir Hans Sloane died in 1753 and during his life had collected what he called natural curiosities and he left his collection to the nation. Sloanes artifacts were originally housed in the British Museum, but as more and more pieces were added, the elements of natural history began to need their own home. The superintendent of the natural history section Sir Richard Owen convinced the government that they needed a new museum.

If you visit London and want to visit all of these great places, then to get the most out of them it is likely to take you more than one day. For any trip to be truly enjoyable, a top quality place to stay is a vital ingredient. There are lots of brilliant hotels spread all throughout London and most of them are right by a lot of these great places.

Quality Halloween Costumes Promising To Send You To The Winning Stage

By Susan West

We can become whoever we want to become on Halloween. It's the one day of the year where we can dare to be the characters in of our dreams. This holiday is all about having enjoyment and laughter. Kids and adults will admit to a spirit of fun as they don their Halloween costumes and prepare to eat all the extra sweets they're sure to have. Take advantage of this one day and make sure you take the time to select just the right costume. If you don't, things may not turn out so nice.

When else can grown men and women wear the ugliest, skimpiest, or scariest outfit in public without concern for the social repercussions? Get the most out of your holiday by choosing a Halloween costume you can fall in love with. Everyone has their own personalities, likes and dislikes. Use that during this evening of dress up! Do you idolize some eccentric celebrity or hardcore rock star? For one evening, shed your blouse or polo and khakis and don their trademark-studded leather!

Before you commit to a certain costume, consider where you plan to wear your new one night only persona. Certain costumes may not be appropriate for certain situations. For example, do you plan to wear that terribly revealing belly dancer outfit to the office? You would be better off to forgo the exotic performer for something more conservative.

If you really had your heart set on wearing it, then instead of repacking it and leaving it in your closet for another year, consider compromising with a pair of tights and a baby doll t-shirt underneath. You can still look beautiful, but appropriately so.

You'll find that many Halloween costumes speak a language of their own. Take a moment to consider what message you may be sending with your outfit. Thinking about this will help you in choosing a costume that fits the occasion. There will be certain costumes you may not want to wear around children. Older guests will also be more easily influenced by certain outfits. So while you want to have fun playing dress up this Halloween, remember to remain proper where possible.

Some Halloween costumes are mainstays. These are the ones which look amazing like a character from Star Wars. They can go from top to bottom or barely be there. Whatever outfit you choose, make sure it is one that won't restrict your movement. It's nice to get the ooh's and ahh's from your costume choice, but you might want to opt for something less obtrusive if you don't want to risk taking a spill.

This is Halloween; this is where Halloween costumes have the potential to go down in history. It is an opportunity you don't want to let pass by not preparing yourself to join in the festivities. Plan right and you'll have a great Halloween filled with lots of Halloween costumes that will make the holiday even more exciting. Edited by Glinda Zuladra

Create A Holiday Ready Home With Excellent Tips On Decorating A Christmas Tree

By Giselle Taylor

It has been a custom to families across the globe to set up and deck out a christmas tree in twinkling lights and festive trimmings. There are many new and exciting christmas tree decorating ideas you can use so long as you infuse it with your personal style and taste. Get great tips on decorating a christmas tree you can use with your family this year.

Where else do we start but with the foundation-the christmas tree. You can use synthetic and artificial trees if you have one of those stored in the attic. Personally, I just love the smell of a fresh pine in a crisp December morning. You can purchase one in any local christmas tree shop, taking care to choose the perfect fir. Car rides tend to flatten the needles so fluff it up when you unload it to its new home.

Find a spot wherein your tree can best be viewed and enjoyed by family members and friends. Make sure that you have the fir pruned, washed and ready before it is set in its designated space. It should be near enough a wall to plug in the cord but distant enough so you can walk around it as you hang up ornaments. Move it back to the wall after if you like.

Create a color palette for your Christmas dcor in your home and tie it in to your tree's look this year. The first decorations you should hang are the lights. There are many kinds of lights available in the market today-steady, flashing, colorful and even musical. Choose which you prefer among all the others and hang them up the tree from the bottom tier upwards. Drape it equally across all sides, wrapping it around the trunk and the branches.

The next set of decorations we hang up are the holiday garlands wrapped around the tree. Use tinsel for this purpose. There are some with little sequins attached to them and when the light hits it, they give off rainbow colored reflections that are stunning to see. Avoid using edible food like stringed popcorn and cranberries unless you can be sure no mice or bug will sniff this out and gnaw on them in the middle of the night.

We're almost done; we're now at the accessories. Depending on the theme you went for, load up on embellishments that complement it best. For example, trimmings of lace, velvet and pearls naturally lend a timeless and elegant holiday look. Go country by tying sprigs of colorful flowers and herbs in fabrics around the limbs of the tree. Go wild and channel the 80's with neon pink and neon green ornaments. Christmas tree decorating ideas work best when you take the lid off your imagination.

And lastly, hang up pretty christmas balls of different sizes and shades around the whole tree. You can use frosted and shiny, solid and ornate balls together to give the tree a more interesting look. In using fillers, the only thing you need to do is make sure they are equally spread out on each side.

These tips on decorating a christmas tree will get you a lovely looking tree. However, it's up to you to make this a beautiful and memorable time. You are loved and a blessing to people-- enjoy life, enjoy the holidays!

Aldabra Atoll

By Mike Randall

Aldabra Atoll is part of the Aldabra Group, one of the archipelagos of the Outer Islands of the Seychelles. The second largest atoll in the world after Kiritimati, Aldabra is the coraline tip of a volcanic seamount, rising from depths of 4,000 to 4,500m (13,120 to 14,760 ft). At 34 km (21 mi) long, 14.5 km (9 mi) wide and just 8 in (26 ft) above sea level, the atoll consists of four coral limestone islands forming a circle around a lagoon of 224 sq km (86 sq mi).

The lagoon is tidal and two thirds of its water recedes back to the ocean at low tide. Aldabra was given World Heritage status in 1982 to protect its delicate natural environment.

Because the atoll is so isolated, many of its species of flora and fauna are found only here. The islets and rocky outcrops in the lagoon provide nesting areas for thousands of birds.

It has possibly the largest population of red-tailed tropic birds and the second largest colony of frigate birds in the world. Many other birds are found here too, including the Aldabra flightless rail, the only flightless bird found on any Indian Ocean island.

The Aldabran giant tortoises are, however, the atoll's most renowned residents, being the last of the giant tortoises which were once spread across the entire region. Commercial exploitation is believed to have made all other giant tortoises in the area extinct by the mid-19th century, and very nearly exterminated the Aldabran population. Two species of marine turtle also nest on beaches on Aldabra: the green turtle and hawksbill turtle.

Unlike the nearby Seychelles, the atoll is inhospitable to humans as the limestone has been eroded into sharp spikes and water-filled pits. However, the mangroves support fish nurseries, and the lagoon is home to a wealth of marine life, from black-tipped reef sharks to eagle rays and parrot fish.

For almost a century, scientists have been studying the flora and fauna of the atoll, which is uninhabited other than by those working at the scientific research station.

Few things are as wonderful as a trip down a river, especially so on the amazing Mississippi and its tributaries.

This is very often historical, but it could also be something else, like a cruise that stops predominantly in secluded rural spots, as opposed to one that is made for people who like visiting cities.

A historically-themed trip will take you to the prominent cities of the area, such as New Orleans, and will let you taste traditional cuisine, such as highbrow Louisiana Creole fare.

There are several paddleboats plying the Mississippi, but the most well-known ones for cruises are the Mississippi Queen, the delta Queen and the American Queen.

Other themed cruises may still have a historical facet, but are more specific. For instance, they could be about the area's musical heritage, or about civil War sites

Alternatives are many - whether you want to explore the customs of the regions' Native American inhabitants, or learn some Bluegrass, you will not be disappointed.

On almost all cruises, helpful guides will be available to brief you about the sights and make sure that you will enjoy the experience to the fullest.

A Mississippi cruise can be playground to all sorts of different people. Whether you are travelling alone, with spouse and kids, as a couple or with friends, you will be able to secure a trip that is just right for your party.

The History Of The Easter Egg

By Amy Nutt

The egg is a remarkable product that has a rich and fascinating history of symbolic meaning in many cultures. Throughout the world, it is known as a universal symbol of Easter celebrations. Along with the association of Christian religious beliefs with the Easter holiday, there is also the time honored tradition of making Easter eggs. Easter eggs have been painted, dyed, and decorated to celebrate the Easter holiday. Children especially love the fun of decorating and painting Easter eggs. The history of the Easter egg is both an intriguing and entertaining tale.

Many traditions and practices have included various symbolic meanings of eggs. In the Pagan era, the egg symbolized a rebirth of the earth. This representation was particularly associated with the beginning of Spring. Many people put eggs under buildings to fend off evil spirits. Pregnant Roman women carried an egg to forecast the sex of their unborn children. The ancient Persians painted eggs for Nowrooz, their New Year festivity that is celebrated on the Spring Equinox.

Throughout the ages, eggs were considered symbols of new life and fertility. In Medieval Europe, eggs were prohibited during Lent because the egg represented new life. It is believed that such ancient cultures as the Persians and Egyptians included eggs in their Spring festivals because of its symbolic connection with new life. At the Passover Seder, a hard-boiled egg is dipped in salt water which then becomes a depiction of new life and the Passover sacrifice offered at the Temple in Jerusalem.

During early Christian practices, the egg was consumed after the conclusion of Lent. It was at this time that Easter was being celebrated which eventually evolved to link Easter with the Easter egg. Eggs were part of the Easter meals and given to children as gifts. This act further cemented the relationship between Easter and Easter eggs. As well, Christians embraced the egg as a religious symbol and equated it with the tomb Christ rose from.

During the middle ages, coloring and decorating Easter eggs became a traditional English practice. Peter Carl Faberge is known for making the most famous decorated eggs which are famously known as Faberge Eggs. In 1883, the Russian Czar, Alexander, commissioned Faberge to make a special Easter present for his wife.

The historical symbolism of colored eggs became firmly rooted in Christianity beliefs. One Polish legend tells a story of Mary Magdalen traveling to the sepulchre to anoint the body of Jesus. She carried a basket full of eggs with her to serve as a repast. When she arrived at the sepulchre and uncovered the eggs, she discovered that the white egg shells had turned a variety of beautiful colors.

The coloring and decoration of Easter eggs are now an Easter holiday tradition. Easter egg hunts and rolling Easter eggs down a hill are a fun children's Easter activity. The purpose of the events are to have fun and enjoy time with family and loved ones on a special religious holiday.

Excellent Tips For Putting Lights On A Christmas Tree

By Giselle Taylor

They say necessity is the mother of all invention. I propose so are holiday fires-at least in the case of Thomas Edison's assistant. Before electric lights, people used candles to decoratively illuminate their christmas trees and for sure, this might have been a cause of many fire hazards then .So on one cold day in December 1882, Edward Johnson plugged in the very first strand of Christmas lights in New York City.

How about you? Is your house a banner of yuletide cheer yet? Have you dropped by that christmas tree shop to get your special evergreen-all luscious and crisp, ready to be decorated on? When you do, here are some tips for putting lights on a christmas tree to help you enjoy your holiday season better without any worry and stress.

Before we tackle anything else, I think we should begin on the motif you have this year. The lights will have to complement that look and you need to buy the right set. Small white lights are a classic that go well with most anything. Nowadays you have a choice on different kinds of color, sizes and shapes-choose one and plug it in the stores to test if all are in working condition.

The general guideline for christmas tree lights is to use a strand of 100 bulbs for every 1 foot of fir you are looking to decorate. So if you have the average 7 foot tree buy a strand with 700 light bulbs; or better yet, get 4 strands of 200 light bulbs to make it easier for you to hang them up. Detangling and uncoiling a long strand may prove to be challenging task you will do well without.

You can start hanging the lights from the crown of the tree but I personally prefer starting at the very last tier working my way upwards. This way, you don't have several dangling cords on the tail end of the tree. Drape the lights artistically around the last set of branches, coiling it around the trunk and limbs as you go higher.

When you are done and satisfied with the spacing and layering of the lights, check to see if the cords are all aligned behind the tree. Connect these cords and plug in the lights. You might get a better perspective when you dim the lights and take a few steps back. When all seems well, you can start loading on the other ornaments on the tree. Wrap first the tinsel garlands then the accessories like ribbons, bells and christmas balls.

There, the needed tips for putting lights on a christmas tree; wasn't that easy? Now you have a beautiful, twinkling tree to commemorate this truly amazing season with. Breathe in the love; linger and spread it abroad this year-Merry Christmas!

European River Travel In All Opulence

By Samson Mandez

River travel has always been high up on the list of discerning and refined travelers, and especially so when it comes to spending a week or two on one of Europe's most scenic and famous waterways.

One of the causes for the rising popularity of European river travel is that even for a luxury cruise prices are sill noticeably lower than for an ocean cruise, if you compare them to each other. For instance there are vary good alternatives to an expensive seaborne cruise for a family, and many will prove to be far more relaxing, as well as enriching.

A good compromise for a family who cannot afford to take a two week ocean luxury cruise holiday is to instead book a week long European river cruise, this kind of travel offers all of the benefits and luxury of a major sea cruise but on a smaller ship and at a fraction of the cost, making them more affordable to most families.

European river travel usually entails a comfortable flight to the starting city, thanks to Europe's dense network of airports, to meet the ship that is going to become your hotel for the trip, and to leave on the chosen waterway.

As many of the rivers that you will travel down go through some of the most major cities in Europe, a European river cruise is a great way to visit many main cities on one holiday without the annoyance of having to negotiate foreign roads, just sit back and wait for the next town to come to you.

As for the size of the boats, while it is true that they are much smaller than ocean-going vessels, you will find that they are just as lavish and that the service that you will experience on board is just as excellent.

You can expect every bit as good food and drink on your European river travel and service that would make some of the best hotels in the world green with envy. Lodging on board the ship is astonishing with a room service that is too match, each day you will have a maid service and each night you will have your bed turned down for you.

As for the things that you will be doing during your European river travel experience, the holiday will generally be more varied than an oceangoing cruise, with a heavier emphasis on sightseeing, and the local culture. Bit there will also be a lot of time to just relax on deck, and on-board entertainment will be provided for.

In fact European river travel can offer all the luxury and panache that you may be accustomed in a high quality sea cruise, but with some extra pizazz on top. So regardless of whether you have been on a cruise boat before, this could be the year to consider booking a trip on Europe's waterways.

How to choose the right Toddler Halloween costume.

By Pagan G. Moore

Parents are soon about to start thinking about toddler costume ideas as Halloween is quickly approaching. It's not easy to choose a costume that your toddler will really love to wear it's time you put in some effort.

Bigger children often have their own ideas on what to wear, like Harry Potter, Cinderella or another favorite movie or fairy tale character. Toddlers however can be a little trickier to satisfy.

For toddler Halloween costumes, there are some vital factors to consider before choosing. You need to think about the safety of your child and look at costumes that cannot be a danger to your child. Additionally the costume needs to be comfortable as well as easy to put on and take off.

Even if there's a wide selection of different costumes available to order over internet, the real trick is to select one that your child will just love and be most comfortable with. A common pick for young toddler's and infants is a safari animal costume like monkey, lion or giraffe. Another popular choice can be a cartoon character your child loves to watch or even something he/she loves to eat, like a banana, strawberry or maybe even grapes.

All parents want to make their child's Halloween experience as memorable as possible so when searching for good ideas you have to think about what he/she really likes. Maybe your child loves to eat chocolates and a M&M dress would be a funny choice or even the classic Halloween pumpkins might be very fascinating and fun for your toddler. Imagination is the only limit.

To add some more ideas for this year's Halloween, consider these girl costumes: clubhouse Minnie toddler, Batarina toddler or a cute sunflower child costume. For boys you could choose: Super Mario, Captain America or maybe something different like a future golfer costume.

The classic low budget costume: Ghost is always popular and can also easily be done by hand at home; all you need is a white sweat outfit and some face paint. Even if this will save you money, make sure your toddler enjoys the costume and keep in mind that small children easily get scared. Maybe try to make a happy ghost costume or something like that.

More costume ideas for a girl toddler would be a Lady Bug or a Butterfly costume. These costumes are available at most stores but can also be self made if you got the talent. Choose a colorful design to make your child feel good and happy when Halloween is here.

There tons of toddler Halloween costumes to choose from. But do remember, it is important that you choose for costume that is comfortable for your child to wear. Purchase a costume that enables your child to move more freely and safe. Safety should always come first. The masks should not interfere with your child's eyesight. Costumes should not contain of any small parts because your child may take that inside his or her mouth. Try to avoid heavy hoods as well. Heavy hood materials may slip over your child's face which cause discomfort and make it hard to breathe for your little one.

Enough warnings! Picking and wearing Halloween costumes should be fun and memorable for both you and your child. Now choose the toddler Halloween costume with care, make it a costume that enables your child to enjoy and have fun again and again this Halloween.

Cures For Jet Lag When Traveling On A Private Jet Charter

By Chris Channing

As a private jet owner, or one who leases a private jet, you have better odds at fighting the effects of jet lag. And while your odds are better, the effects of jet lag can still intrude on your otherwise fantastic trip. Some methods can be undertaken to improve your odds of beating the jet lag monster with little effort.

No doubt if you have traveled before, you have gotten a tired, sunken feeling. It may have even led to a painful headache or a body ache- this is fairly average. Your first method of reducing such effects is to get some exercise before the flight. Anything that is cardiovascular is great- as well as anything that involves stretching or meditation. This will calm your mind and body.

The benefit of being on a private jet is that you can really let loose and relax, unlike the alternative of commercial airliners. On a private jet, you can take off your shoes and take off your tie and louse about. Be sure to take a comfortable pillow and some form of entertainment as well. Any tight clothing that restricts blood flow should be taken off if possible.

Time zones are what hurt most of the passengers, since it can be hard to adjust your body to a completely different time. Often you will only need to misplace an hour or two of your sleep time, but in some cases a long flight can actually cause you to miss many hours of sleep. It is recommended that you only take a small nap, if at all, so that the next day you will have adjusted to the new time.

The human body needs a constant supply of water to operate. This shouldn't change while in the air- keep a good amount of water near for consumption. Although a private jet allows you more options, such as consuming alcohol, you should not take yourself up on this freedom if you experience bad jet lag. Alcohol is known to cause jet lag even on small flights where it shouldn't have been a problem.

If you find that you are having problems adjusting to sleep or nullifying jet lag, there are medications that you can obtain. Over the counter drugs can help aid your sleep and relaxation, while prescription drugs can do more- although they are probably not necessary. If you can, try to take on the flight without medication.

Closing Comments

Having your own private jet is a real treat. Your odds at getting jet lag are much smaller due to the comfort and the greater relaxation. Take full effect of your surroundings in your private jet- and just be glad you aren't flying commercial!

Legos - A Tradition That Continues To Thrill Toddlers

By Edie Mindell

A snap, click and we all fall down: the wonder of legos lasts a lifetime. OK, so your baby would rather eat the Legos than play with them, but your toddler loves the colors, the towers and building then destroying vast Lego empires. How do you balance the need to keep your baby from choking and your older child's need for engaging in imaginative play?

This is a question parents beginning their Christmas shopping for young children have had to wrestle with for decades. It was once much more simple since the variety of toys was not that broad. Now with so many choices that have smaller pieces it is a troublesome question. What do you do when your toddler asks Santa in the innocent belief of childhood for a Lego set? Well, there are many gifts that you can choose that will keep your infant's airway safe and still fulfill your toddler's holiday dreams

Snap together blocks are not a one size fits all toy. There are many varieties that are baby friendly. These larger versions might even be preferable for parents of young children and not just because they don't pose a choking hazard.

The large snapping blocks are easier for toddler fingers to master. They also come in themes that are more appropriate for toddlers. You are not likely to find a large Lego set featuring Star Wars or GI Joe, but you will find bright colors, ABC themes, lots of car, truck or train sets and cartoon favorites like Bob the Builder and many others.

If your toddler or somewhat older child is well past the large Lego stage then this is not the option for you. Look for accessories that are designed to keep play safely contained. Keeping them off the floor and away from baby's seeking fingers will ensure her safety and allow your kids to play with their Christmas bounty.

Many products are designed for this purpose: carpet mats, storage bins with lids and the master container - a table designed purely for Lego play. A mat will help create a Lego zone. This will signal to your child that the pieces need to stay in this one certain spot. Having a limited area will help with clean up as well as stemming the flow of toys, and the choking threat, to one area of the house.

Storage bins with lids keep toys safely out of reach until you are actually playing with them. You will still need to supervise play and clean up but at least you aren't worried about the baby finding the Legos when you are not looking. A table combines the safety features of both the bins and a mat, but also elevates play off the ground. This means your older children can play even when the baby is around because the Legos are out of the baby's reach. Whatever option you choose, your baby and toddler should be very happy with your holiday shopping efforts this year.

The pier offers an excellent opportunity to take in the panoramic views of Llandudno's promenade and also get a good view of Happy Valley and the start of the cable car ride.

Llandudno cable car is Britain's longest cable car ride and takes you from the foot of the Great Orme at Happy Valley to the summit over 600 feet above sea level. You can easily fit a family of two adults and two to three children in the cable car comfortably or up to four adults. At the summit on a clear day you can easily see the mountains of Snowdonia and the Isle of Anglesey to the west. There's also a visitor centre and a playground and amusement centre.

Take the Great Orme tram to the summit which is just a short distance from the town centre. With open windows you'll travel in style from the base station to the summit. The tram is a great alternative if it's too windy for the cable cars or you dislike heights. At the half way station a small exhibition details some of the history of the trams in Llandudno.

Whilst on the Great Orme why not take a look at the Great Orme Copper Mines. These mines are believed to be over 4000 years old and are a terriffic example of what life could have been like for the early settlers in North Wales. Visitors to the mines can descend into the old tunnels and have a look around at the caverns chiseled out millennia ago.

For the younger generation there is ten pin bowling at Llandudno Superbowl back in the town. The Superbowl has a licensed bar and food is available from the cafe. If you fancy some skiing take a walk through Happy Valley to Ski Llandudno with its alpine lodge and dry ski slope. The toboggan run is also here and is great fun for all the family as it weaves around the slope.

If it's raining outside don't let it stop you watching the latest blockbuster at Llandudno cinema. The cinema is located just 10 minutes from Llandudno town centre by bus or car. There's three fast food restaurants next to the cinema if you're feeling hungry either before or after the film. Llandudno's nightlife has a choice of bars and pubs to visit. Most of the bars are located on Upper Mostyn Street and live acts appear on a regular basis.

If you like shopping then Llandudno is the right place for you. As North Wales best shopping location the town boasts a long high street packed with well known stores. The recently added Parc Llandudno is a terrific addition to Llandudno with plenty of free parking spaces and well known shops such as Debenhams, Next, River Island, and Bhs.

Exquisite Visitor Attractions To Visit In Fort William, Scotland

By Simon Monkton

Because the Scottish town of Inverness is now a city, Fort William is the largest town in the Highlands. The town is an amazingly popular tourist center with many folk arriving to climb or view Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in Scotland and Great Britain.

In the article below I take a look at a few different visitor attractions worth a visit if you are visiting Fort William.

The Fascinating West Highland Museum

Founded in 1922 was the West Highland Museum in Fort William. A group of people from Lochaber wanted to create a museum, about life in the Highlands, for the people of the Highlands. The present building was purchased in 1926 from the British Linen Bank, and can be found in Cameron Square, just off the Hight Street. Small but fascinating is how a lot of people describe the museum. The collections of the museum present a fascinating look into the way of life in the West Highlands throughout the years. People from all backgrounds are represented, through the magnificent collections of photograph's, artefact's and picture's

The Excellent Old Inverlochy Castle

There are two Inverlochy Castle's in Fort William, the Old Inverlochy Castle and the new Victorian, chateau-style Inverlochy Castle, erected in the village of Torlundy (which is now a luxurious hotel). The Old castle was said to have been erected between 1270-1280, by John "the Black" Comyn, Lord of Badenoch and Lochaber, and chief of the Clan Comyn. Even though the castle is in ruins, the layout has not changed much since it was constructed. Lord Abinger carried out alterations and enhancements to the house, in preparation of a visit by Queen Victoria. Old Inverlochy Castle remains an important part of English and Scottish history, because of the role it played during the Civil Wars of the 1640's.

The Delightful Jacobite Steam Train

An excursion on the Jacobite Steam Train, is an awe inspiring way to explore the spectacular scenery of the Highlands. The Fort William to the Mallaig trip takes one on a magical ride through the glens. One of the most sensational parts of the tour is going across the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which the majority of people will recognize due to the fact that it appears in the Harry Potter films. The 84 mile journey takes you past Loch Morar, Ben Nevis and Loch Nevis, with a stop in Glenfinnan before reaching Mallaig. There is about an hour and half in which to discover Mallaig, before the return journey, back to Fort William. This journey has frequently been described as, one of the Great Railway Journeys of the World.

The town of Fort William has lots more nearby visitor attractions but a great many tourists decide to make Fort William a base for a touring vacation of the Highlands of Scotland. A popular vacation destination is Inverness and a fantastic thing to do it spend a week in both. Virtually all places you visit will have a mass of literature~leaflets and literature~pamphlets showing countless other visitor attractions nearby so there is always plenty to see and do.

Decorated Christmas Trees That Usher In The Holiday Spirit

By Giselle Taylor

Christmas season, is there anything like it? Crowds making tireless journeys to the malls to carefully select and purchase the perfect gift for their loved ones; traffic building up with every car collectively blaring songs of yuletide cheer; bearded Santas ringing their bells to encourage donations for the less fortunate-these are all familiar images that strike a chord in our hearts. However, the most known and best loved of all these is perhaps the twinkling sweet smelling fir. Yes, decorated christmas trees find a place not just in our living rooms but our hearts as well.

The tree is the meeting place of hearts and kindred spirits sharing a laugh over a cup of steaming eggnog. Many of these families have probably bonded over the trip to local christmas tree shops looking for the perfect tree to bring back home. The tree will be the happy participant of many joyful reunions and delicious dinners that are sure to have taken place.

Perhaps you have a synthetic tree stored away in the basement awaiting its return in the holidays-let them come forth! If you missed out on bonding over picking the perfect fir, you will definitely have many opportunities in tree decorating. Make it a special experience for the children by allowing them to be creative director and executor of the said project.

How about an animal or nature inspired tree? You can help them make appropriate cut outs and pictures; and string up related trinkets all around the fir. You can hang up the lights beforehand; they can swathe the tree with their artworks after. When done, have the child top the tree with a crowning token-a special angel or heirloom star maybe? Make a special tradition out of this and have a different child carry out the special task every year.

Bring the child to your shopping trips and let them choose the gifts they will want to give to their friends. They will understand the value of wise buying and you will learn more about how your child thinks about people and the value of money. Allow them to pick out the gift wrapping paper and ribbons and let them wrap the presents themselves. Out of all the gifts under the tree, it is the home-made and awkward looking package that will be remembered.

Don't keep the gifts in a 'secret' place. Believe me-- they won't be secret for long. People, children and grown-ups alike, have a way of sniffing these out. Keep them under the beloved tree where they belong. Sure, it will be shaken and scrutinized for hours by the curious recipients; but at least nobody but the truly mischievous will dare open it up in full view of everyone.

And finally, allow me to give you an advice I wish I received in my earlier holidays shared with my own family-keep a video camera on hand at all times. Priceless memories come up as the days that precede Christmas day wear on. Decorated christmas trees witness every joyful tear and laughter between loved ones, enjoy them while they are around.

The Best Methods On How To Put Lights On A Christmas Tree

By Giselle Taylor

No matter where I am in the world, I always know when Christmas time is near-and it's not only because I've been marking off the days since July. There is a shift in the atmosphere. It's the crisp air, the friendlier people and admittedly, the outrageous christmas sales I've come to know and love so well. Some say it's getting too commercialized-so? It's your personal response to it that matters anyway. Time to start with the merrymaking and where else should we begin but right in our own homes.

A surefire way to brighten up your home is by putting up a beautiful christmas tree in a place it will be best showcased. It is a tradition well loved and practiced by most families still. No matter how many Christmases pass though, one can also do with tips and pointers on how to put lights on a christmas tree. Read on and find out a simple way on how to go about this without stress.

First item of the agenda: buy a tree. If you happen to have a perfectly acceptable synthetic tree packed somewhere in the house, go right ahead and use that one. However, if you want the warmth and intimacy of a live fir; pack up the whole family and visit the local christmas tree store to get 'the One' that you and the rest of the brood will enjoy.

Clear a space for the tree. Usually, families opt for the living room where visitors are received often as the spot to set the tree in. When you put up the christmas tree, place it near enough a wall, but with enough room around the tree that you can walk around it as you hang up decorations.

What theme are you going for this year? Determine this as soon as possible so you can pick out appropriate lights. Christmas lights are now being sold in various colors, shapes, sizes and patterns-choose one that will best complement your tree's motif.

If you have old lights you prefer to use, make certain that they are in working condition. You can replace broken bulbs but never use lights with exposed wires. Buy new lights to prevent fire hazards. Measure your tree and buy christmas lights with 100 bulbs for every one foot of tree you plan to decorate.

Start putting up the lights from the lowest level. Coil the lights around the trunk and limbs, draping them as creatively as you can until the highest tier. Leave space for the garlands and other ornaments you will be hanging up later on. Keep the extension cords along the center of the tree, if possible, taping them discretely to avoid unsightly wires and cords.

Now the moment of truth-plug in the cord in the outlet. How does it look? Close the room lights and take a step back to assess your handy work. Is it all nice and twinkly? Is it evenly distributed all throughout the tree? Clip off unsightly needles and tuck in whatever needs to be kept hidden until you are satisfied. You now know the safe way on how to put lights on a christmas tree-enjoy it and let the good times roll! Happy holidays!

Electric Bug Killer

By Owen Jones

The electric insect zapper is the best way of ridding the space around you of insects, especially the flying ones such as mosquitoes. The indoor insect killer vaporizes any insect from a mosquito to a gnat instantaneously on contact with a pleasingly loud, electrical 'crack'!

However, this does not mean to say that the electric bug killer cannot be operated outdoors, so long as it is not raining. It should be handled just like any other high voltage electrical item. Keep the electric bug zapper dry and please do not use it when you are standing in the pool!

Models vary greatly, but there are basically only two types of hand held bug killer: the battery operated bug zapper and the rechargeable electric bug killer. Both are equally effective at zapping insects and employ the same principle.

The hand held insect zapper looks like a 'junior' tennis racquet, but with three layers of 'strings', which are in fact wires. The innermost network of wires becomes live at the touch of a button while the other two grids, one on either side, are earths.

When an insect is caught between the wires of the indoor insect zapper, it creates a short, which evaporates it instantly with a loud crack and a flash. The electric insect killer will zap other bugs too, but they tend to burn instead of just disappear.

I have had the rechargeable sort for about five years and am extremely happy with the hand held bug killer. In fact, the electric insect killer has come a long way in the last few years. A fully charged electric bug zapper is strong enough to last for several hundred swipes and will hold it's charge, if unused, for weeks without any noticeable discharge.

The rechargeable battery unit will put up with intensive use for the best part of a year, although its ability to hold a charge for several weeks gradually reduces after six or seven months.

The latest indoor insect killer I've used has a main on/off switch, a light that shines when it is live (the brightness of this light also gives an indication of the battery's strength) and an LED that comes on when it is plugged in on recharge.

The instructions on the wrapper say that it should be (re)charged for about sixteen hours. I usually put it on charge over night once or twice every week or two, although the electric bug zapper shows a marked increase in performance after only a couple of hours recharging.

The latest version I've used also comes with a powerful beam called a 'headlamp'. I have found this very handy when out in the garden, but I'm unsure whether it's meant to lure the mosquitoes in the dark so that you can zap them if you're feeling bored or just vindictive, rather like an Anglerfish.

I've used the headlamp on my indoor insect zapper for that too, but the beam uses a lot of battery power. All in all, the indoor insect zapper is a big asset to any outdoor event. The electric insect killer is useful to 'clean out' your bedroom before retiring; it's unequalled for evening mosquitoes and it will clear a lunch table of wasps as well.

Travel Plan For A Vacation With Children

By Mario Beckar

If you are planning a vacation with kids then each and every detail has to be perfectly planned. First step is deciding on what place to visit. Have a family discussion rather doing it alone. This will give an opportunity to meet the needs of all the family members. The place you select should be a fun to everyone. Search the net to identify the best family vacation spots like the Yellow Stone National Park. The U.S is one of the best families outing place. It is highly affordable. You can be involved in various activities like trekking; canoeing, camping and the bubbling geothermal mud spots offer great enthusiasm to children as well as adults. Select a place like this with numerous activities involved.

Next is mode of journey. If the place you are planning is near, it is best to go by drive. This will be full of fun. You can even stop and rest wherever you like. But if it is another country or too distant, consider the aspects of convenience and budget before making a decision. Do not try to be too stingy, be reasonable. Just to save a few dollars if you select an itinerary with great amount of waiting time between flights then your kids will be pissed off and become cranky especially if they are of very small age.

Major task is finding an accommodation. For example, if you have 4 kids, then you may have to book two rooms or find some connecting rooms which may not be possible at the last minute. Hence, make arrangements for accommodation months ahead. Another factor to be considered while making accommodation arrangements is the extent that the kids can enjoy at that place. If you book a room in the midst of a city, you will definitely enjoy doing all the shopping, visiting places but the kids won't. Select a place that is either near to a beach or an amusement park with a number of rides for the children to enjoy.

Some people who take long vacations with children suggest that renting a house is the best option that saves a good amount of money. While making hotel reservation know about the amenities they serve like a refrigerator may be a must for you to keep the baby bottles, if they have their own kitchen, so that it would be helpful if the kids feel hungry and if the hotel offers any dishes planned especially for children. Do not forget to check the reviews about the hospitality services of the hotel.

If you are traveling with kids have a first aid kit with you all the time, especially if your trip involves activities like trekking where the chances of injury are great. If your children have certain allergies do not forget to take care about it.

Have some ready to eat foods or fruits to meet the unexpected needs of the children. Obviously they are just kids and love to snack frequently.

Last note, plan perfectly to give your children a platform to explore themselves, have fun, learn new cultures, adventure they love to have and everything they wish to have.

Learn 8 Cannot-Miss Places In Your Italian Tour!

By Cristiano Rubbi

Amalfi Coast - Do you wish to see a lovely coastline with a sprinkling of picturesque villages and houses along the slopes of hills overlooking the sea? Then your choice has to be the Amalfi Coast. Between the see, the hills facing it and the colorful dwellings characteristic of the local countryside, you are sure to be enchanted by the beauty of it all. The larger towns, such as Amalfi, Positano, Ravello and Sorrento, provide that additional charm which makes the area so unique.

Pompeii - People are fascinated by the sight of casts of bodies of men and animals that were killed instantly by the eruption of the volcano named Vesuvius in 79 A.D.. It is estimated that about 20,000 people lived at Pompeii at the time and they all died within a few seconds. These casts as well as the excellent state of preservation of houses and other buildings in Pompeii gives an impression almost of living at present in an ordinary Roman city of 2000 years ago. Even inscriptions seem to be part of modern living. In Pompeii archaeologists have unearthed the first tag ever found with the inscription CAVE CANEM, (or beware of the dog).

Rome - The name is a synonym for ancient history, Christianity and beauty. Its impossible to describe in a few lines the marvels you can admire in the city. No doubt you are familiar with the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Bocca della Verita, Navona Square, the Pantheon, St. Peters Basilica, the Sistine Chapel and the Vatican Museums. These, however, are just a few of the magnificent sights that are waiting for you when you come to Rome. You have to see it to believe it!

Florence - If you speak of Florence your mind immediately associates its name with history and elegant design. This is because this city as it is today is the direct result of the Renaissance, which was born and developed here. Walking around Piazza della Signoria you cannot help admiring the wonderful buildings enclosing it and the monuments and statues decorating it. Close by are two museums - Galleria dell'Accademia and Uffizi - which have worldwide renown for the quality and quantity of their exhibits.

Chianti Region - How many times have you wondered where in Italy that lovely wine called Chianti came from? A tour of this area will obviously answer your question... and more. The countryside will unfold before your eyes to reveal whole lines of perfectly trained vines and neat farmhouses scattered about the fields. The wine tasting function will not only allow you to savour that excellent wine, but also to gain an insight into the processing methods adopted for its production.

Pisa - Pisa equals Leaning Tower. That's the formula in everybody's mind. True, but the Leaning Tower is only one of the four buildings facing Piazza dei Miracoli, or Miracle Square. The Cathedral, for instance, is a glorious building of the Middle Ages, the Baptistery is approximately from the same period, while the inner court of the 12th century Cemetery is sacred soil because the top layer of the ground was brought to Pisa by crusaders returning from the Holy Land.

Siena - Would you be disappointed if you were to go to Siena, but could not attend the Palio? You probably would, and this would be quite understandable, considering the prominence given to the Palio by all international media. However, even if you didn't manage to watch the ceremony of the Palio, Siena, you would soon find out, has in store many fine surprises. Its buildings and the layout of its streets are truly admirable examples of Medieval architecture and they are equally impressive as their more famous counterparts in Florence.

Venice - Known the world over on account of its canals, Venice was established in the early Middle Ages and since then it has grown on the strips of land that, jutting out into the sea, form its canals. Venice had its heyday between the late Middle Ages and the 18th century. Small wonder that most of its finest buildings date from that period. It is really pointless to make an extensive list of them, but we must at least mention St. Mark's Square which is the heart of the city and offers a splendid spectacle, with its Basilica, Clock-tower and Bell-tower.

Some Cool Thoughts For A Homemade Halloween Costume

By Jim Samposzi

Halloween is a spooky and exciting season for people of all ages and from all walks of life. Adults still dress up for Halloween, so it is definitely a season for all. Children stroll the sidewalks in search for bundles of candy at the same time adults are getting together to throw parties. Halloween parties are fun because you get to make yourself into whatever you want to in order to make people laugh, make them scared, and shocked, or amazed - for Halloween, anything can be a costume.

Halloween suits can be inexpensive in some stores, or quite expensive in other stores. It really depends on the desired costume and if the buyer is shopping in a novelty store. Department stores have Halloween costumes for cheap but the quality comes with a price. In some stores, high-end Halloween costumes cost a fortune.

The purchase of a fancy costume is not necessary to join in the festivities, you can build one using your own creativity. Making a homemade costume is exciting and low in cost - sometimes free! Most, if not all of the materials you need, you can find in a home. Some of the greatest homemade costume ideas are:

* Hippie - Ok, its time to riffle in the old boxes of clothes, mothers' and fathers' closets, or a thrift store. No matter how you come up with these old rags, make sure they are vintage nineteen sixty nine. Dress it up with beads, green shades, a headband, and beat up hiking sandals.

* Old Man or Woman - For the old dude, all you need is some black pants, cuffed at the bottom, a stick, and grey hair. For the lady, an old plaid or other skirt that drops below the knees, knee-highs rolled up, oxfords, and a gigantic makeup bag - and add silver hair to top it off. And, if you can find a walker , it will be even better.

* Mummy - Wrap yourself in gauze. Although you should be able to get away with using toilet paper, gauze is much better. You can tighten the wrap with small pieces of glue. Also, paint your face white and create age and cracking lines on the face. Green paint can be added to the wrapping to indicate mold.

* Cereal Killer - Put an empty cereal box to your chest. Get a knife handle (DON'T USE A KNIFE WITH THE BLADE STILL ATTACHED) and attach the handle perpendicularlythe box facing out from your body to make it look like the knife is stabbed into the box. Drip red paint or candle-wax to complete the costume.

* Cigarette - Wear all white (the white of the cigarette) and get a pair of light brown sneakers (the filter). Then, paint your hair red (light/fire); you can further include a powder so that you can manually activate it to make it look like smoke.

There are tons of costumes one can create by only gathering a few items from the cupboard. You don't always be required to pay money for costumes; you can construct your own that can turn out as realistic, and if not, or even greater, by being creative in yielding your own design - you might surprise yourself with how creative you are!
